I was just wondering if they'd be any good for unamplified busking but I guess probably not.
My guess is there are definitely better strings out there for acoustic busking but someone like jakesbass or the more experienced DB'ers are much better qualified than me.
 2.
Hey Clarky how are the Silver Slaps for pizz volume and sustain?
I'm probably not the best person to ask due to my limited experience. I would say their volume is less than the old Thomastik Superflexibles I used to have but still decent enough. The E and A don't have as much sustain either but I suspect thats because they are designed for slapping. For me they are great as I am playing live through a preamp/amp anyway and they are by far the easiest strings on the fingers I have found.
 3.
Can someone do the same thing for setups please?
If you insist - bung some strings on, if the bass buzzes to b*ggery turn the truss rod a bit so it doesn't any more, if the neck resembles a banana turn truss the other way. Simples. Then hand round lysdexia's photo album
 4.
Hi Clarky,on a slightly different note, i'm looking for a lower tension grade of string, have you any advice for a string novice!!
I've only tried a few types but my favourites are Presto Nylonwound (pretty expensive at just over £100 a set) and Innovation Silver Slaps (just over £70 a set). The latter are very thick and very low tension and to my mind the easiest playing strings I have come across. I have them on both my DBs now
 5.
Right, excellent, I've printed that off, should be able make it last 45 minutes, with a bit of waffle eh, cheers!
Bring a load of lysdexia's photo albums and hand them round, you'll be amazed how quickly the 45 minutes will go (and how few questions you get on compression)
 6.
Fine by me, anyone got a good book about comrpessors I can have read of then??
Its simple 51m0n (unintended pun), if you have compression on zero it does nothing and if you go to ten it squishes the sound. You can't buy that level of knowledge, mate
 7. Just to second what Jack said, this oozes quality (I just don't do 5 strings ). Oh and a new one is about five grand, I believe ....
 8.
Don't worry about it, let your ears decide. There are strong trends in buying and selling on here. When I first came onto the old site, Laklands were what EVERYONE wanted, and they were talked about in such reverential tones that, having been a Fenderhead all of my life, I thought I must be missing something major. I was about to buy a Duck Dunn when, all of a sudden all the guys who had raved about Laklands started selling them, which gave me pause for thought and I realised the Lakland thing was a phase, no more. There's a strong herd mentality on here, so it only takes a few people to sell and others start thinking "sh*t, perhaps it isn't as good as I thought if all these other guys are selling there's, I'd better sell it" followed by "Oh crap, there's so many on sale the prices are dropping, I'd better sell mine really quick before they drop even further". From what I've heard the TCs are outstanding so I'd not worry about the relatively high amount for sale C
Words wise are these
 9.
Hmm. I'm tempted to try them Clarky... How does the thickness compare with the silver slaps? If they are as thick then the extra tension might be a problem... And how is your hand btw?
Hi Jake, they are nothing like as thick as the Silver Slaps. In fact they are barely thicker, I would say, than the D'Addario Spirocores that came as stock on the bass. I ordered the Honeys (sounds like a rap artist!) after reading they were lower tension gut-alike strings but IMHO there's not much in it between these and the Spirocores, factionally less tense but not a lot.* Hand is slowly getting there thanks. I still can't make a fist and there is a slightly worrying lump on the upper joint of my middle finger - I have the next checkup on Monday with x-rays. Slightly trepidatious given the developments with my middle finger, which was not the one that broke .... * If you are passing by my house on work in London feel free to come and take a look
 10.
If you like very crisp and super pingy top end (Marcus Miller slap tone) the RH450 isnt suitable.
Agreed, fortunately I don't like that tone! I see teh TC 450 (I have the Classic version, without presets) as an 'old school' sounding amp. With the Tubetone engaged, it sounds very like my old Mesa Walkabout. I am selling as I don't really need a backup amp although I have also offered a trade against an Orange Terror Bass given lack of cash among the BC buying public and the fact I think the Terror Bass is much more simple and an ideal plug-n-play for my punk gigs
 11. Trade for Orange Terror Bass (with bit of cash my way, given TC costs £100 more new than Orange head)?
 12. These were put on my new Eminence EUB last Sunday and I found them a little too tense for my liking (I have swapped for Silver Slaps). Other than a slight (and completely unavoidable) amount of fuzzing of the silks these are as-new. I paid £73.50 and will sell them on for £55 including post (over a 20% discount). Any takers?
 13. I aked the same thing a month ago - seems he is well but busy http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...l=outtoplayjazz
 14.
And not one comment on that beautiful carpet!
Funny you should say that, I was going to ask where you got it ....
 15. A repaying-the-compliment type bump along with a nice (if irrelevant) emoticon
 16.
Dunno about you Clarky but I can't move for all the tumbleweed around here Have a bump!!
Whoooooooooooooooossssshhhhhhhh I get the EUB back on Saturday and I think evilBay awaits after that
 17. Due to some rather pressing issues on the home front, I will only be able to attend for maybe 2-3 hours, Nik. I aim to be there about lunchtime so will bring the raffle bits and pieces (Orange amp, rack bag) then. Can also bring any of my FS bits (MIA Jazz, Arria EU, TC amp) if anyone wants a look-over, otherwise just bringing the Pino Precision and MB combo
 18. Would also do straight swap for a new model MIA Jazz in black/rosewood in similar excellent condition
 19. PM'd back. still available, however. And thanks for the kind words, BB2000!
 20. I recently bought back this very attractive 2009 MIA Jazz in oly white/tort/maple on BassChat, having been the original owner. Its still in excellent condition (slight swirling on the rear near the string ferrules is the limit of any wear). However, after extensive playing I have come to the conclusion (like Musicman20) that I just don't really get on with maple boards, preferring the warmer feel and look of rosewood. I would like to trade this with a cash top-up against an American Vintage '62 reissue Jazz in black (edit: or straight swap against a similar condition 2009/10 MIA Jazz in black/rosewood) but as there aren't many of these about, I am also putting this up for sale. It has a decent SKB hard case and case candy but not one of the Fender newer cases (this parted ways on an earlier trade of the bass). Fitted with new DR Sunbeam 45-105s, it plays very nicely (BCer chris_b had a play on it this evening). I am pricing this at £625. Please note that is less than I paid for the return of the bass only a few weeks ago and so is pretty non-negotiable. I will be at BassBash this weekend if anyone wants me to bring it along. Delivery is obviously extra, with the cost depending on location/service etc (I usually use Interparcel which comes in at about £15 for a bass in a hard case in the UK or £70 for mainland Europe/Scandinavia). As for pics, there are some on my sig below. However I have a rubbish camera and the best pics are from a previous FS thread - hope it's OK, BB2000? Click on link below for a a decent set of representative pics of the bass. 21. Bump! Anyone going to BassBash on Saturday fancy this?
