Actually my 'good' right hand was the one that was struggling towards the end, especially when I was playing the third to last number which features a repeated eighth note riff for about 3 minutes while the various brass instruments and guitar take turns soloing around the main theme. That was hard work. Having played in a punk band for two years or so it was great have an audience that featured loads of people dancing and wasn't 95% blokes!
 2. It's not a Sadowsky logo though, BB, the controls are more like an Alleva Coppollo (but it's not one of those either). Not much help there!
 3.
Hi Clarky, thanks very much for this but been considering it anyway - the bass gluttony has left me feeling a bit hollow!
Wish I could afford your AC in sonic blue!
 4. Hey Loz that's a bummer. But don't sell your pride and joys due to one bad shipping experience! All the best, Clarky
 5.
Well done Clarky! And how are the fingers today?
Thanks! The fingers are a bit stiff and the back of my hand ( where I broke the metacarpal) is a bit sore - but to be honest it's not a lot different to how it felt yesterday morning. I have got time to rest it now as next gig not for three weeks (23 November) and no rehearsals before that. So hopefully all will be sorted by the next gig
 6.
Well done, Clarky. How is the hand?
Thanks Dave. It's a bit sore this morning but not unusually so. It's 3 weeks to our next gig so plenty of time to rest it and hopefully it should be pretty much healed by then.
 7. Rather rashly, given my damaged left hand, I took my DB along to the gig this evening and played the whole, near-1 hour set with it. Played it through the Platinum Pro preamp and my MB combo. Couldn't quite get it sounding 100% acoustic-like but not far off and I didn't get any feedback problems. Really chuffed! The lines are incredibly simple in Rattlin Bone so that my role is often more of a timekeeper/rhythm instrument but that suits me just fine as I am very much a learner. I even got plaudits from a couple of audience members about my playing .... which was nice
 8. Possibly rashly (given my damaged left hand), I took my DB along and did the whole gig with it. My first ever DB gig! We played for just under an hour and got a fantastic audience reaction. Really chuffed
 9.
I will give you £150 and two 5 month old kittens called bill and ted?
Tempting offer as I like cats but no thanks
 10.
A bit pedantic but I think they're Series II electronics
Post edited loz! Thanks for the pedantic bump
 11.
am I trippin' or are there eight control nobs on the one newstead is pictured with?
No you are quite sober! He modded his Spoiler by fitting Series II controls to it (and a hard-to-see pickguard as he sweats so much it was going into the pickup cavities - yuk). Mine is simple by comparison with volume and tone filter knobs, a rotary pickup selector (which has a useful 'off' position for total silence) and a 'Q' switch (which subtly changes frequencies, making it a bit deeper).
 12. A reminder that if anyone is wandering round near London Bridge late tomorrow (I know thats most of you!) we are headlining at midnight. Due to my hand break I will be using my Precision, not the DB. Hopefully will be using the DB for our second gig at The Comedy in Soho three weeks later
 13. Hey Chris, I was down in Bognor at the White Horse on Tuesday for a band rehearsal (long way for a Londoner!) and recognised your gig poster on the wall - then put two and two together! Nice little venue with a decent sized stage. Best of luck with the gig!
 14.
Hi Clarky, sad news you have to sell that bass. I did my first gig with my new Alembic bass yesterday and it sounds great. All the best with the sale. Jazzyvee
Thanks JV, its the best bass I own but also by far the heaviest and its got to the stage where its a problem for me. Very sad. More positively I will be keeping an eye open on the Alembic Club for an early 80s black Spoiler as these were nearer 9 pounds (unlike the much heavier late 80s versions)
 15. PS, not looking for trades unless you happen to have a lightweight black Alembic Spoiler (OK I know!) or a vgc Eminence upright bass. Very specific I know but nothing else thanks, only good old cash
 16. Thanks CK, post amended re weight comparisons. If it weighed the better part of a couple of pounds less, like the Spoiler Deaver owns, it would be staying. Don't know if I'm being overly sensitive but since injuring my hand recently (bones still broken!), to add to my dodgy left shoulder/back, I would much rather have a lighter bass around my neck
 17. This is a serious rock machine, the model played by Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted of Metallica (and thus highly sought after as there aren't many in circulation in this colour scheme). As a Metallica fan I love the way this bass looks and plays - with one fatal flaw, it weighs 11 pounds and thats just too much for me, my back and my left shoulder (which had a rotator cuff injury a couple of years ago and is prone to grumble with heavy basses strapped on). The good - plays beautifully (32 inch scale length is very easy to navigate fast), sounds very Alembic (ask jakesbass, old horse murphy, or jonthebass), looks rock, and is an Alembic you would happily gig rather than admire and polish. The bad - the weight (though its nowhere near as heavy as, say, an MK 5), and the finish has a couple of small chips in the headstock, lots of fine surface scratches in the picking area (which could probably T-cut out) and quite a few bumps/dints (none breaking the thick black gloss finish) on the rear, especially at the back of the horn. You might want to do a partial re-fin but, TBH, it didn't bother me as it meant I could happily gig it without fussing. I imported it from the US for over £1300 and have since added some very nice Alembic 40-100 stainless steel round strings for an all-in cost of about £1400. It comes with a very solid fitted Alembic hard case. For pics please see link in my sig below
 18.
Phew! It's OK Mike, I think we got away with it.
Typed while wearing a rubber gimp suit
 19.
you got some 'splainin' to do.
Up to his old tricks with the nipple clamps again? Thats Jack for you
 20. Bought a MarkBass Micromark off Ed. Arrived very fast, well packed and in great condition, many thanks Ed! Very happy to recommend as a good guy to do business with
 21.
Hi Clarky I agree. I bet lower tension strings and running it into a suitable imepdance head or pre would make a huge difference. Also, that bass is a commission sale and when I asked Alex about it a while back he came back to me with a reduced price, so may be worth checking again (unless he already volunteered the info when you visited)? Cheers Gareth
Hi Gareth I was offered a reduced price but by the time I factor in new strings and possible setup costs it still wouldn't fall that far short of a new one (SMART are doing them set up in the US to your specifications at 1865 delivered)
 22. After re-think and lots of communication with Eminence players (all happy!) I am adding this back to my potential buy list. Following advice on how an Eminence should play, I am pretty confident that the one I tried at the Gallery was just not set-up right and needed lower tension strings. So does anyone have a nice playing Eminence they wish to move on?
 23.
Thinking I might sell my Kolstein as I'm not playing it as much as I thought I would, due to a change in circumstances. (not transporting a keyboard player and his gear + p.a. and my stuff as often as I used to) If you fancy a day return to North Yorkshire you're welcome to come and try it. Sometimes there are cheap deals on the train to York or Leeds, or if you want to drive it's do-able in a day, or you could stay over and we could have a bass party!
PM'd
 24. Congrats Nigel, really well done job there mate. Gigging it soon? Now about X-factor ...
 25.
Hi there, Just wondered if you might be interested in a BSX Allegro 5 String? They're very portable and have a great sound. Let me know if you'd like to see pics/history/price etc. All the best.
Thanks for the offer but 5 is one too many strings for me!
