Of that, I have no doubt. Jazz funk greats Morrisey Mullen were no slouches and he has also played with UK jazz stalwarts like Alan Barnes. But that's not my point

The Bass Gallery have a 1961 Jazz Bass for sale from the octogenarian (ahem) jazz bass player Jim Richardson. While I am sure he has a wonderful reputation and back catalogue, is that reason enough to pay £9k for a beat-up, over-sprayed (seemingly in bitumen), modded (non-original electronics and fretboard) bass that looks like its been in a fire? Maybe I am being unkind but the pricing seems WAY off to me. https://thebassgallery.com/products/fender-jazz-bass-1961-ex-jim-richardson

More pics in current livery (taken a few weeks ago when it was wearing flats, now has D'Addario 45-100 nickels on) and one of the digital scales. Also I forgot to say that I like low action and a flat neck relief (if that's the correct description). I have put a sliver of paper under the E string where it passes over the nut to avoid slight buzz around the 8th fret. This wouldn't be an issue if you liked medium action, flats or a different relief profile (it didn't buzz, for example, when it came to me from BassBros, its just the vagaries of my setup)

I bought this from BassBros a couple of months ago and upgraded the white pickguard to a black one for added coolness. The lightest Jazz I have ever played at 8 pounds, yes you read that correctly. Unfortunately I am not getting on with the neck profile (I previously had a super-thin necked Geddy Jazz and this is quite deep front to back, almost like a chunky P bass neck but with narrower nut width). It hasn't left the house since I got it and is in super 9.5/10 condition (a few tiny, barely visible scratches around the drilled bridge cover holes). Comes with Fender case, covers, white guard etc. Collect from SW13 London or post at cost within UK. NO TRADES unless a 2010s Spector Ian Hill P/J in black (the one with the slimmed down neck profile). Last pic was taken today, to show black guard, the rest were sent to me by Will from BassBros (it didn't actually go on their website as I heard about it before Will had put together the advert).

Since this thread has the attention of Spector owners, just a quick note that I am trying to find a first generation Spector Ian Hill. In case this is of interest to one of you. Cheers Clarky

One of a kind Flying V bass made by Ken Smith for Stanley Clarke. A cool £10k (give or take) at the Bass Gallery. Like the Spellbinder, this unfortunately does nothing for me aesthetically https://thebassgallery.com/products/ken-smith-bespoke-b-bass-1981-ex-stanley-clarke

Top three attributes of a drummer - your opinion?
Clarky replied to Mickeyboro's topic in General Discussion
1. Not spontaneously combusting 2. Not stage diving on to a concrete floor 3. Not preemptively attacking two people in Woolworths on the assumption they are on the rob (2 and 3 actually happened in one of my bands) -

Bought/traded a lovely bass from Alex. As before, all good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other BC members.

Fender AV II 54 & 60 Precision plus AV II 66 Jazz.

Interesting how the original saddles clearly were not fit for purpose from the picture above. So its a bit surprising that Fender should seek to replicate, even if for authenticity -

Originally Fender used bakelite saddles, I believe -

To pre-empt the inevitable (bass forum) question. He played a selection (CAR, white) of Manhattan J-style basses https://manhattanprestigebasses.com/ These retail in US at $999

He was introduced last night. Sounded like Neil or Phil Dixon (Bryan Ferry was a bit muffled, when speaking). However, I googled and came up with nada so I clearly misheard

Agree, very polished performance and tremendous sound (esp for the O2). I enjoyed the early/ mid 1970s output (esp Do the Strand, Re-make/ Re-model, Virginia Plain, Every home a heartache being the highlight for me) but I'm afraid the Avalon/Jealous Guy/Dance away etc 'soft rock' leaves me cold

I went with Mrs C to see the Roxy Music 50th Anniversary gig at O2 last night. She is a mega-fan from the 70s, I know much less about them (they were never really my cup of tea back in the day) and so I did some googling beforehand. Obvs I checked their bassists (duh!), only to discover 4 have passed away. How very Spinal Tap
