You are all missing the obvious point which is that you can't go wrong buying an Ampeg
Photo's don't do the yummy green justice. This is a lovely bass.
Thanks Adam - you're right, the photo above was taken on a gloomy day. In the flesh, the colour is a sort of peppermint green with a metallic sheen to it. Its better represented in the pic on the Alleva website of this very bass:
I smell a deal coming on.....hehehehe
I think Chris said in his FS thread he has agreed a trade with his LPB 64P and another (more mojo'd) 60s P bass.

OK, my punk band Kismetik's drummer has quit and it may take us ages to find a replacement. The upside is it has given me leverage with our guitarist/frontman to state my demands, amongst which is that I have a side project (he has one and our drummer had one, so I think its only fair). Playing punk originals is all well and good but means that our band often plays to very small audiences and also that its pretty hard to get gigs. Basically, I fancy the immediate gratification of playing songs on stage that people recognise and are into and that I love. Hence I am after an occasional covers band, preferably with more (ahem) mature musicians (I'm in my 40s). My all-time favourite band is Metallica and ideally I would love to play bass in a band that covered their early material (up to Black Album). But I would consider other loud guitar-based rock/metal too (not death metal, done that and can't stand the growling vocals), eg GnR or even classic punk (Clash, Pistols, Ruts etc). I also love Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds so would happily join a Bad Seeds/Grinderman/Birthday Party covers band too. Ideal for me would be to rehearse a couple of times a month and gig maybe once a month. Not a heavy schedule as I have a pretty demanding job, plus family commitments - and I need to leave time for Kismetik too. But enough for a bunch of like-minded people to have some fun. I have transport, good gear, I'm definitely not technically gifted but am a pretty good time-keeper. I'm also nerdily reliable about time (almost always arrive before the soundman and everyone else at gigs!) Plus I've played maybe 50 gigs in the last 2-3 years so I know what that side is all about. I live near Hammersmith but work near Liverpool Street and usually rehearse in Camden area with Kismetik. Of course I'd be happy to rehearse a bit nearer where I live. Occasional Metallica (or Bad Seeds) covers band would be my ideal but, as I say, try me on anything else. This is me (including one photo when wearing a Sp*rs shirt for the charity 'Shirt of Hurt'):

Looks to have shockingly high action to me! Its not a DB fercrissakes, it looks like a 'normal' 34 inch scale length so I guess the guy must like a real thump from hi strings!

FEMALE DB's SHOW YOURSELVES!! (LONDON)

Good luck with your search but I don't think there are many lady DB players on this site (can only think of one off the top of my head). You may have to cast the net a bit wider or, gasp, consider someone of the male gender -
So who talks to you when you get off stage?
No. He fell into the inebriated South African camp. "Play something that ****s up my head" was a good one too. I fear we were too late.
I was worried he would follow your guitarist home -
"You should do a few covers" Get this helpfull advice a lot. Drunken/medicated and incoherent South Africans are quite high on the list at the moment. "You should do a few covers" "I used to play bass in a band.........." "You should do a few covers" The best was from a Polish guy who comes to a fair few of our gigs. Just after I got my new rig and the drummer had played a bit more forcibly than usual. "Your bass was sounding huge this time. Your drums were awesome too. You. (to the guitarist) You sound the same"
Was that the same Polish guy on Saturday who was calling out for cover versions of songs by The Cult? -
Further to the above post I would consider a cash plus bass trade as long as the cash was a sizeable proportion (at least a grand) and the bass was something that could be moved on without too much difficulty (or - if it took some time - I would enjoy playing in between times, eg, nice vintage or CS Fender/Sadowsky/Celinder 4)

And last one from me - Jason Newsted doing the solo entry to My friend of Misery live on his modded black Alembic Spoiler (like mine but with uprated electronics and an added middle pickup). The first 2-3 minutes should give a good idea of the Alembic natural sound - ignore the last minute of how-many-fx-can-I-play-with-simultaneously twaddle
-
And here's a cracking Enter Sandman from 1991 in Moscow, with Jason Newsted playing a gorgeous black Alembic Elan
-
Here's Holier than thou by Metallica - check out the bass break at 3:10 and you'll see what I mean about crunchy aggressive tone (not very cappuccino/latte to me!)
-
Or, in a distinctly rockier vein (and what attracted me to Alembics), try Metallica's Black Album, eg, Enter Sandman, Holier than Thou or My God of Misery. Quite an aggressive crunchy tone when played by Jason Newsted (or before him, Cliff Burton, who also used an Aria and a Rick)

Although I withdrew this bass from sale on Friday, I could actually do with selling it due to me having just coughed up for an Alembic Elan 5 string and being financially short as a consequence (so trades are still out). Was a firm £2600 before (or Euro 3,100 for our continental European BassChat brethren) but I will listen to cash offers reasonably close to this. I am not going to keep bumping this daily but wanted anyone with potential interest to be aware its available.

Cracking gig Low End Bee! Dry ice and lasers too - who could want more? Sorry I missed all but the end of Jack's set as I couldn't get there til just after 10. Well played gents

Dan is now the owner of my old punk bass "Sid". Very easy deal, involving meeting on a tube platform (makes a change from car parks for me!) and I will just add to the list of posts above recommending Dan to deal with. Enjoy Sid!

Ooops, just pressed the button on this 1992 Alembic Elan 5! Hope to get this by the end of the week. Having failed to sell my AC Willie Weeks maybe not my smartest move but you only live once!

Usually mrs Clarky saying "you were really good tonight. Maybe next time there will be a few more in the audience" I'm not joking
