1. OK a month has elapsed since I put this on ice after heavy pressure from certain quarters! I haven't played it and have had no desire to play it. I am not a fretless person and likely never will be. It's simply too much money tied up in a beautiful bass that's sat in it's case and I can think of other things I could use the money for. So it's back up for £1500 ono or trade against a quality 5'er (Sadowsky, Alembic) PS Chris before you try and dissuade me again I could always buy another fretless at a later date if I ever needed/wanted one but I really can't see that happening! Edit: as this runs to three pages, the best pics are in post 3 (with new Bass Doc-sourced 70's style tort guard on) and post 1 (the Vintage & Rare pics with its original black guard on - which is safely stored in the case)
2. I was only able to be there for about 90 minutes but really well done to the organizers (essexbasscat etc) Was great chatting to people and slavering over their lovely gear. My fave had to be molan's green Willie Weeks Alleva. Great talk from Bernie Goodfellow too.
3.
You mean pairing it up with the Orange, or running a pair of Vintages from the Orange for your new Doom direction?
One Orange + One Vintage! One day Mr Foxen I will learn what all this "doom" is about
4. Don't suppose you are driving down near London any time soon as I'm quite interested in this as a pair for my new Orange valve amp (AD200B)?
5. Just sold my Gibson Thunderbird to Norris. Lots of communications and very easy, pleasant transaction. Hope you give it a good airing at the next gig Norris!
6. Just bought a lovely Orange valve amp (AD200B) off Tyrone. Very friendly and good transaction. Good luck with your next musical project!
7.
Now in the care of Lucky(Lucius)aged 9 hes over the moon with it,we also found an old 70's FAL combo so he can continue learning at home,I was going to give him a pocket rocket but thought....hey let the parents suffer Clarky..THANK YOU From Lucky and myself... Right hes got like 6 hours to learn...VINDALOO
Stuff Vindaloo, gotta be World in Motion - the best football song ever, except you will have to take over John Barnes' rapping duties, tino! really glad its gone to a deserving lad
8. Thank the lord - after a run of rubbish gigs with virtually no audience, we played the Archway Tavern in North London this evening and it was a cracker. Decent sized vocal and appreciative audience - reminded me why I started this gigging lark in the first place
9. In case anyone is in North London and stuck for something to do tonight
10. Very nice Jas. The Sadowsky looks lovely with the chrome cover on
11. If it feels completely smooth and there are no sticky patches wouldn't bother me Is this your black P/j Jon? Can't imagine you would have any trouble selling that one
12. Sold Steve a Thunderbird shaped gig bag. Paid super fast and good comms. Cheers mate!
13.
+1 for a Shuker-not necessarily a JJ, but a Shuker Precision.
My old Shuker JJB was a cut above the 2008-10 new MIA Precisions, and I think they are lovely basses. It felt better put together, all the components and the finishing (paintwork, hand-cut s/p etc) were completely top notch, it hung and played beautifully. The flat, wide but shallow neck was also really comfortable. I only sold it as I went the vintage route with my 72 Precision - which is a wonderful bass but, in truth, no better as a playing instrument than the JJB.
14. we use Zed One in Camden (225 Camden Road). Decent enough, not very cheap any more (£48 for 3 hours, after big price rise) but usually can get room at short notice
15. Yay, he's definitely back! The bells were heard ringing from the highest towers in the land PS, nice bass if anyone notices it
16.
If you flick me the length measurement then I'll just send you the £45 and you can send it the slowest ass royal mail service and like I said just put it in a bin bag it's a case after all its only gonna get knocked about anyway.
PM'ed
17. Adding to Tom's comments, just sold Tony a Mesa cab. He may like the occasional wind-up on BC but don't be taken in by that as he's a very decent bloke and a pleasure to do business with. Even threw in a very generous helping of petrol money for our meet-up tonight. He's also acting as middle-man in getting my son's lefty short-scale bass to a teacher who could make good use of it with a pupil. Cheers Tony
18. This is now en route to a teacher with a lefty pupil, care of BC'er tino
19.
If you flick me the length measurement then I'll just send you the £45 and you can send it the slowest ass royal mail service and like I said just put it in a bin bag it's a case after all its only gonna get knocked about anyway.
Nice one - am on my Blackberry now (taking break in band practice) so will get back to you later this evening with details
20.
No worries, like I say if you don't want to ship it I'll just buy new ones. Cheers
OK, how about I package up and post to you for 35 plus whatever it costs with a max cost to you of £45 (ie I pay any excess)- sound fair? You can pay me once I have posted, as you are a longstandong BCer, and I will let you know the total. Deal? Cheers Clarky
21.
Maybe a bit overkill but i have a guitar box lying at work you can have if it helps.
Thanks for the offer Dave. I've got a guitar box already but I was thinking that might mean exorbitant postage charges. I had best check ith PO
22. Hi, thanks for reply. The thing is I don't have a box shaped even vaguely like this when doubled over, so to post would require some elaborate Heath Robinson type ensemble of bubble wrap. I would rather wait a few days and see if there's anyone willing to meet/collect. If not, then I will go the post route and its yours. Cheers Clarky
23. For sale: Warwick's premium (30mm padded) Rockbag for a Thunderbird, Buzzard or Beast bass. Hard to find in UK, so cost me £65 including shipping from Thomann in Germany (here's the listing http://www.thomann.de/gb/rockbag_rb20603b_...bassgigbag.htm). Makes a Thunderbird easy to carry to practices/gigs etc, especially when compared to the mightily heavy Gibson hard case. Used once for a rehearsal, at which I decided the Thunderbird sounded great but was not for me due to narrow Jazz-type neck (the bass is now sold pending to a BC'er). Bit awkward to ship due to size/shape, so handover in London would be better. How's about £35 anyone, just over half new price for an immaculate as-new gigbag specially dsigned for your T'bird? 24.
That bass has some serious mojo, I like! But alas, cannot afford. Yet... Any chance of some sound clips?
Ahead of any reply from faceman, I know from the research I did when buying my old 3000 that this was essentially conceived as a simpler (than the 4000 series, that is) bass and was pitched against the Precision. My old 3000 sounded really quite Precision like as a result of the single coil pickup and its placement
25. You could use that second bass as a mirror to signal to search planes
