Same thing happened to me with some LaBella flats I bought from US when they were out of stock in the UK. I ended up paying something like £45 all-in, when the UK price (when in stock) was about £29 and the US price 'seemed' about the same including postage. Yet I bought a Sansamp pedal costing five times as much from the US and that slipped through the net with no import duties/charges - it seems like its pot luck
Your list of listening material is a great one. I just struggle to see how, having heard those guys, you can give Moondance any credibility at all
Didn't once say I like it, Bilbo! Just wondered why it irked you so. Can't stand Van the Man personally ... he is unfortunately a fave of Mrs C so I do get subjected, eg I saw him at Hammersmith Apollo two years ago and he did "swing" versions of all his classics (Brown-Eyed Girl in a jumping jive version anyone? Thought not) Even Mrs C was moved to leave before the end. Dire
If this sounds like a jazz walking bass line to you, I suggest you listen to anything with Ray Brown on it before you do anything else.
I said it was a pop-inflected take on a walking bass line and I stand by that. I didn't say it was "correct". I'm just surprised it gets your goat so much as I assume that it has probably single-handedly got a fair number of pop fans to listen to Jazz. As for your suggestion about listening to other players, despite being best known on BC as a punk bassist, as it happens I have dozens of Jazz albums featuring not just Ray Brown ("We get requests" has been my wake-up CD on my alarm for the last two years), but also other DB greats including Paul Chambers, Scott LaFaro, Oscar Pettiford, Charlie Mingus, Jimmy Blanton etc. And I can see that they "swing"
Planet Rock? So a profoundly academic ethnomusicological analysis of the merits of the piece based on sound empirical evidence, then As Shakespeare would have said: 'The dance of the moon doth suck'
At the risk of turning you into a purple, vein-busting Hulk-type creature, Bilbo, what is so bad about the bassline of Moondance - sounds like (an admittedly pop-inflected) take on a standard Jazz walking bass line to me???? Would have thought that anything that brought Jazz closer to mainstream consciousness would be appreciated by you, rather than vilified??? Genuinely curious here, not trying to rattle cages
BBC????? Bass Ferret?
BBC was my guess, based on the deliberately provocative GF slapping comment and the fact that he must have worked his way through the sheep of New Zealand by now!

"prictice setup" - so Marcus Muller's true identity is revealed! And there was me thinking its the BBC up to his old pranks
-
Can only endorse everything else written about him here. A witty, knoledgeable, helpful and basically vital part of the BC community, he will be missed sorely. Condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. RIP OG

Just waiting for your real identity to be revealed. Have you by any chance recently returned from a trip to New Zealand?
Brilliant, what you will realise Shonks is after a while here, the tire kicking anoraks hijack threads and take the greatest of pleasure in trying to belittle new members and any minute incorrect detail. You will still get arguments because remember they will know better than Fender! Good luck whatever you decide to do with it. Basebass
Which banned member* are you Basebass! On topic, good luck with sale Shonks but I would start a new FS thread if I were you * Joined BC today
Please no comments re 'told you so'
As long as you promise the same to me! But seriously, I know you searched for your month-of-birth Precision for years so this must be a real wrench. Have a bump from me, mate and hope this works out.

Does anyone have a pre-cut adjustable DB bridge they wish to sell?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Yes, how lucky is that! Call/PM me mate C
PM'd Chris! -
If so please PM me Once back from hols, am planning to have another go at resuscitating my attempts on my dust-covered DB - I filed down the bridge slots on mine earlier this year to make the action less horrendous .... but went too far on the A string which now buzzes too much. Hence an adjustable bridge should be a good solution (I hope)

Absolutely with Toasted on this - thats a truly gorgeous bass, please don't mod it!

Another bump from hols! As I recently had a very unpleasant tax demand I am really after cash but would consider a trade against something that I could potentially sell on (or at least, if it didn't sell quickly, I would enjoy playing inbetween times until it did sell). Given I like Fenders and their derivatives and Alembics it doesn't mean many possibilities but there's no harm in trying me (an Alembic or Sadowsky 5'er [with relatively narrow string spacing] would be good or a vintage Precision with maple neck [already got a lovely one with rosewood] or a Nash)
I'm sorry Clarky, but WHAT? You're going to play a punk gig on an Alembic? I'll be sure to light a candle for you at the Sid Vicious Shrine & Souvenir Shop ...
Was thinking of borrowing your smoking jacket and cravat for the gig too, Jack
Gonna use the Willie Weeks - go on, you know you want to. . .
Wouldn't dare Barrie Think the stealth black Alembic may get its first punk gig airing - not sure the audience will spot that its not a regulation Fender, plus its slightly dinged already so I'm not antsy about it getting knocked around

Hi all - Kismetik are on mid-evening at the annual Gosport Punkfest on Saturday 21st August, down on the South Coast. Classic original punks the UK Subs are headlining (remember 'Stranglehold', 'Down on the farm' etc). The event takes place at the Gosport Rugby Club and other bands include Night of Treason, Trash Cat, Refuse All, DJ Vinnie Void, plus others Would be good if any South Coast BC'ers could pop along and I could [s]bribe them with[/s] buy them a beer!
-
Great looking bass - nice work Wes! No spare spondoolies at present though (looking to raisemoney me'self from sales )
-
One bass only (72P for OK venues, Sid for skankier ones [most of our gigs!]) - any more starts to look un-punk! When I join a prog band, of course, things will be different
TTD's original bassist was Cass Lewis, subsequently of Skunk Anansie. If it was him I'd be suitably impressed.
Blimey, didn't know that! It was quite modded - Badass, two EMG active pickups - but played really well. Sold it for peanuts on eBay as I wanted a Precision and modded 80s Fenders were not fetching much at that time
