My problem is, I don't get attached to them at all. I have no problem in trading stuff in and out for a laugh. I really wish I could find a bass to fall in love with, and the one bass that did it for me, I let it go because I'm thick.
Russ, why not track down that Kinal? Just checked FS threads and BC'er Mickb1773 traded it a few months back, so why not drop him a PM and do a bit of Clouseau work ... and see if you can get it back?

Fender P ending in like, 15 mins!!
Clarky replied to Chest Rockwell's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Went for £511 - not exactly a bargain with the £20 postage on top, especially given the poor quality of the photos -
Fender P ending in like, 15 mins!!
Clarky replied to Chest Rockwell's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Looks legit but its not a new series bass as it doesn't have a tort plate or heavy mass bridge. I guess its an S1, the previous series. If thats right its a bit cheap now (£456 including postage if you were to bid) but you wouldn't want to pay more than about £500 as I think thats pretty much the going rate on BC for a pre-2009/10 series US Precision. -
Will boutique basses be good long-term investments?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Dunno, but if anyone sees winning lottery tickets in their crystal ball, let me know
I'm not of course asking anyone to predict the value of these things in 20 years time, more asking whether boutique basses are destined to depreciate relative to Fenders. Or to put it another way, if you spent 2k on a 70s Fender or a NYC Sadowsky today, which would you guess would be worth more in 20 years time -
Was just musing over the fact that jsixties' lovely NYC Sadowsky is currently worth a bit more than my 1972 sunburst Precision. And then thought, in say 20 years time will these boutique basses (including my Alleva) prove to be good investments or will an old Fender always out-strip these as an investment. Are we paying for exclusivity and quality today for Allevas/Sadowskys etc only to face long-term depreciation because these are not household names? I realise of course that any calculations wouldn't take into account the pleasure from playing in between times .... What do you guys think?
Clarky, how many do I own or how many of your old ones do I own?
In answer to the latter, I thinks its only one now (Alembic) as you sold the US P bass
-
After 28 votes, 50% of BC'ers polled own 5 or more basses. Blimey, I was guessing there would be a skew between people owning 1-3 basses and those with humungous collections
Just the one for me. I can't play really, so any more would be sheer extravagance
I'm rubbish but it hasn't stopped me going to town!
More than 10 and heading towards cetera and DotB territory - although not as fast as I was...
And I'm going to take a wild guess that none of them are Fenders, BigRedX

I am sure this has been asked but I don't remember a poll - and I do love a poll Let me start, I have four (excluding the DB, which doesn't really count as its more an attractive ornament than an instrument, the little it ever gets played). In fact, let me re-phrase to "how many electric basses do you own?" ...

Just sold Martin (aka martin8708) a '75 Jazz bass. He was very friendly on the phone and paid super-fast. Another recommended BC'er
I'm thinking of starting a "For the Alex Van Halen Detractors". Why is he a crap drummer. I think he's a good drummer, he played all the right things on the VH albums, and he holds time well enough. What's the problem with him?
I for one would never pick a fight with him

and there's always the Lakland Duck Dunn, for a high quality Fender-alike P with Jazz neck and block markers
If you want tenuous - I can do tenuous! My H&K basebass 600 was owned by a member of the prodigy, and then given to a roadie, who sold it to me.
and Keith from The Prodigy uses the same drycleaner as me which means that we must be related

Donation made and glass to be raised Deepest sympathies, Clarky

His bass playing in early Police was good and memorable (everyone plays Walking On The Moon, don't they, while noodling?) However the only solo album of his I liked (Dream of the Blue Turtles) featured Darryl Jones on bass!

My house is empty on a Monday night* and I keep my rubber corset in the right hand drawer by my bed * thats when we practice (voted) - always ensures I am cream-crackered for work by Tuesday, bearing in mind my alarm goes off at 5.30am
I like her two fingers per fret technique as well (last photo where she is holding the neck of the bass). That'll cut out all those extraneous notes.
Obviously learned the technique on a DB, getting reinforcement by using two fingers per note.
Are you quite sure...........?
Well thats the value of what I have (Alleva £2.6k, 72P £1.8k, Alembic £1.2k, CIJ P £300-ish) Its not the value of what I have traded, thats for sure
not surprising that this went at a very attractive price! One happy new owner, certainly...
It is/was a great price but, as you all know (and there was a thread about this recently), its a pretty tough market for sellers at the moment The sale is not done and dusted yet but, assuming all well, the new owner will indeed be a happy bunny as its a slick-playing, great-sounding jazz with more than a few Irish stories to tell! And the sale helps me out no end with El taxman so everybody is happy (well I'm not happy about the tax bill but you know what I mean)
