  1. There's a first. We walked away from a gig without playing a note as the pub thought we had too many amps (we are a 5 piece) and our amps looked "too loud". We hadn't even plugged in or fully set up. When they asked us to lose a band member or play after 10pm when their restaurant was closed, we packed our gear and left. Lord Raglan in Wokingham, for the record. My advice: never accept a gig there

Do you not know Wonderwall and Mr Brightside then?

Radio WigWam have played a lot of my band West on Colfax  - sorry to hear about the gig. We played a benefit gig with generally a really great crowd, we were half way through and  some drunk shouted play a cover, which quick as a flash our singer said we're not doing Wonderwall to a round of applause, and the guy actually was going to say Wonderwall he admitted later at the bar, that's how i know he was drunk, he slurred at me.  There should be a Brightside/Wonderwall ban for a few years 🙂

Sorry to hear this. It's such a waste of everyone's time too. You could have taken another (paying) booking. They probably had customers turn up, expecting to see a band etc. I too have done free gigs where I've thought "why do I do this?" and of course others where I ended up really enjoying the gig.

Good on you for naming and shaming the pub. Better luck with the next one @Clarky

  2. Fantastic, much more treble than I had been dialling in - many thanks @Lozz196
  3. Hey Lozz, I would be interested to see your amp settings. I am road testing my ABM 500 tonight at a gig and I am finding it easier to get a good sound with my single coil Rick than my humbucking P-pickup Serek (the latter is a bit dull and woolly sounding, despite my playing around with input, OD, output, EQ etc). As you play P basses, would be great if you could post a pic - or describe? Muchos gracias
  4. Wasn't it Willie Weeks' prototype bass, @molan? The green KBP4 (which I also owned for a while). Either way, lovely bass
  5. Add me to the list. Under 8 pounds, nice
  6. Couple of things - Handbox will ship directly but there will be VAT/import duty payable on top - and more importantly they have been awaiting steel enclosures for WB-100 and R-400 from supplier for some time and don't appear to have clarity when these will arrive (the amp 'guts' are all made and waiting to be installed in enclosures, apparently). A few BCers (myself included) are waiting on amps but it seems a bit like 'how long is a piece of string'
  7. Thanks Frank, I have already emailed them. If I don't get a timely reply, I will pick up the phone!
  8. Cliff Burton and Mark King - to name two players from very different genres - used really light gauge strings (35-95 IIRC) and noone ever accused them of having a weak bass sound.
  9. Like a dope, I trimmed the G of my La Bella Low Tension Flat set in order to fit my 2+2 Rick 4003. The strings didn't suit the bass and came off after 5-10 mins.... leaving me with a G that doesn't fit a regular Fender 4-in-line headstock or pretty much any popular bass other than a Rick! So does anyone know of a retailer that sells single LTF strings so that I can get an uncut G? Thank you!
  10. Actually call it £45 posted. Even fairer. Will amend title
  11. Around 12 years old but still perfectly functioning Shadow dual wing pickup. Selling as I prefer darker sounding Realist copperhead. New around £95-105 in most places, so £45 posted sounds fair.
  12. Thanks @Sparky Mark. I am about to road test my ABM 500 on Saturday but am already thinking ahead about possibly upgrading if I like what I hear. My ABM 500 is an older UK made model which I picked up at a very good price on the forum (£210) and I - rightly or wrongly - think an older amp is more likely to run into issues than a new(er) one. I was also looking at the Geezer Head of Doom but am assuming the Doom control is just clever re-branding for a regular Ashdown gain control as the amp shares the same tube as the ABM 600 (its also missing the Compressor of teh ABM 600, which I know not everyone likes but what harm I say).
  13. Out of interest, what is the difference between the ABM 600 and the previous ABM 500 (which I have recently acquired and actually puts out 575W)? Is it just the extra 2 bands of EQ sliders, as surely 25W is neither here nor there in terms of output?
  14. Re: Zilla and tools, apparently its to do with the size of modern staple guns 🤯
  15. This is the US company. $300 for head sleeve, $108 delivery. Add in just over 20% for import duty and you get to £400 ish. https://mooncabinets.com/products/custom-headsleeve-for-orange-terror-lunchbox-style-amps
  16. I have been through this recently. Unfortunately Zilla Cabs, the only UK based TB500 head sleeve manufacturer, have stopped doing them (something to do with the latest tools not fitting inside the sleeve). I could only find a US manufacturer but with import duty and shipping it would have been over £400, which I am not willing to pay.
  17. Amazon usually has them with Prime (next day) delivery. They are out of 45/105 but have 40/100 at £31 delivered, next day. Worth keeping an eye on Amazon I would say Edit: oops, missed comment above on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/DR-Strings-40-100-Handmade-Lo-Rider/dp/B0002FO8CE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3SPBHJQ2X34WJ&keywords=dr+nickel+lo+rider&qid=1657026274&sprefix=dr+lo+rider%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-2
  18. Next up gig in Wokingham (fairly near Reading, Henley etc) on Saturday. Details here:

  19. My Barefaced ST and ABM500 rig
  20. This setting works a treat (in fact I cranked the input a litttle more than you have). Many thanks! First impressions: I like the tonal range and OD (which together make it more adjustable than my Orange TB500). The fans are not as intrusive as I had been led to expect, significantly quieter than some other amps I have owned (eg Mesa). Now I just need to gig it to see if it delivers the promised H* word. *heft
  21. Joe bought a Tech21 pedal from me and all was tip top and tickety boo, aka good!
