Prompted by this thread, I tried a set of DR Pure Blues 40-100 in place of my La Bella 760FLs. Initial impressions very good. Similar to Sunbeams (very, as in they are also nickel wound, round core) and more punchy than flats. May end up going back to flats, as thats my comfort zone, but enjoying these rounds for now.

I get the original faker ban (although you may be right Jack that times have moved on in regard of their litigiousness) but struggle to understand banning FS/FT posts involving demonstrably genuine R***s, with serial number etc to prove.

Its still policed on BC. I, admittedly somewhat cheekily, mentioned in my status this week that I am selling a "bass that cannot be named (think Geddy, 2112)" on ebay and that status was removed by the mods. As presumably will be this post

Pretty sure this would sell in a heartbeat if you offered shipping. You can always buy shipping boxes, such as this one on eBay ... or possibly get one for free from a bike or music shop https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154590259482?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item23fe4c291a:g:RPIAAOSwnnlgm9PK&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACoPYe5NmHp%2B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsStEKTPzZMfQmny3knR97t0LFv3q6YpTBbMqxbC2iYUFPsACMo9YTmylPZjqA16%2BGY1FkXWTK2cZ%2FEcqvWbW4mf7PDOAueOC6hi90TQj%2Bsf9EMKSbswril3qUIxUcWggzNL%2Ffh2GjpKi5lD6uNtxk6ctJhorqi%2BvmiRNdxZDD1r7W5%2BABEd9NJmdW8TBV5Efm2q%2FsoMtYia%2FQ3AT9ywQNmX9RQqtoKvqZwXU8vqmjTF2XklWLTba5p4WYK0dHqHwZHeS%2FNN35g8OMQgE6yEaVIztacOElobSDe3F2QNg9AJ8jT2kMn6ZgmHQRmrJ4I3TaUyVcj5UVIntMFxa2PvBWDSHjVEKSR765mvdHcifQgG0L%2FL5Z2LBCarYS4RBq5YOCMr3wUEcCw2brPOMsrXn7wV%2FSmlqMRZ8vBPy%2FMnDFkPCyvD7jc93MXVtSuzaPlWE2FMoLFjWNp0QhHnKe92dYgW%2FjMBHz0heYObQzZmcBozURKyEmAnnZOb9O9288M78eC5OFEmvlPNiL6koSD%2BI1jembkNbCMBO0bl9z8Yf%2BgeiM6HYMPZ05P6MBlDNMFVlmgLLJGqHB7G2FgTfzaFG4DiodTLZTBd6Y63ftdYQX6qXxi%2FB4KYRWXrsG0kyoDoRvyYYQzMXzAzWlNFhmcJxEd%2FcsvIq2ht14ZFRfpKT0KM8FMSQEd%2Fc97N1gRCrY%2FnZK76YkRjKmBvjbsP03qLfJnR23KjmZ%2BydkgIYw47P4cNtADZh3wNiXQPuCbZEl4wrM8gS%2FlzyiN3hpMPpHOwMWQwB%2BwrFK88jstEuXiCfq68tiL3shnq0diherUgVTpz%2Bv4YQ2prgv%2FdGwvsS1ycvPveQ%3D%3D|clp%3A2334524|tkp%3ABFBM1KmshM1f -

I play in the Wily Bo Walker Band but that's fine. Bo is a Grammy nominated singer/songwriter and very well regarded in the blues community. I just turn up and play bass!

Sold it as, however much I like the look of SG/EB basses, I don't find them comfortable to play. The TV yellow one was was a beaut for sure
-
The drab olive reminds me of all the Range Rovers in SW London that are in faux military colours but in reality the owners are called Giles and Clarissa and their two children are called Charlie and Violetta
-
Special run for Chicago Music Exchange (also comes in aptly named "Drab" olive green). Nice colour scheme. Link https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/gibson-usa-sg-standard-bass-pelham-blue-wtortoise-1351959

Not saying AER, PJB and others (Genzler and Tecamp/Eich for example) are not good for DB, they clearly are! Just that they don't have very specific DB functionality onboard (notch filters, phase adjusters, phantom power for mics etc) which some DBers want.
-
Not sure they are top of every DBers list when it comes to amps. Sure, their combos are used by some and plenty of DBers use Markbass combos. But in terms of doubling, notch filters etc, it was really only EA and AI
-
Another vote for La Bella 760FL, which I have on my '83 Fullerton-era AVRI62 Jazz. Super slick to play (don't know why but they seem better suited to my Jazz whereas the LTFs suit my Precision beautifully) and great deep tone
-
Although EA's amps and cabs work well with electric basses (witness the aforementioned Messrs Sklar and Jones), their closure leaves Acoustic Image as the only one internationally recognised manufacturer of amps for DB. Big shame

I think its a relic from the classical guitar and double/contrabass days where it was taught that the thumb should be behind the neck rather than around. Nowt wrong in my view with gripping baseball style, what ever works!

For those BassChat DBers that don't head into the General forum on BassChat, re-posting here the sad news that Euphonic Audio have shut up shop

Just seen this on Gollihur's latest email (the well known US double bass retailers), EA (beloved of Leland Sklar, Percy Jones, John Patitucci etc) have shut for good : "Sadly, we must announce that after 40 years EA has ceased operations effective December 31, 2021. EA was formed in 1981 as a high-end hi-fi speaker manufacturer. In 1996 we focused attention on accurate sounding, compact, and lightweight gear for bass instruments, always emphasizing utilizing USA based sourcing and assembly. Throughout these past 40 years we have tried to make the best possible products for the best price, and to focus on outstanding customer service. We have always operated with a tight profit margin and of course, given our size, we never had the purchasing advantage of larger organizations. The worldwide COVID situation has created shipping and parts sourcing issues beyond our ability to overcome. Our supply of replacement drivers and our remaining inventory have been transferred to Gollihur music (https://gollihurmusic.com/). John and Larry will be retiring, and Gary will continue his audio construction business. EA was always a labor of love and we appreciate all those that we touched in over 40 years of business. We wish you all well and thank you for your support over the years."
