  1. Sold it as, however much I like the look of SG/EB basses, I don't find them comfortable to play. The TV yellow one was was a beaut for sure
  2. The drab olive reminds me of all the Range Rovers in SW London that are in faux military colours but in reality the owners are called Giles and Clarissa and their two children are called Charlie and Violetta
  3. Special run for Chicago Music Exchange (also comes in aptly named "Drab" olive green). Nice colour scheme. Link https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/gibson-usa-sg-standard-bass-pelham-blue-wtortoise-1351959
  4. Not saying AER, PJB and others (Genzler and Tecamp/Eich for example) are not good for DB, they clearly are! Just that they don't have very specific DB functionality onboard (notch filters, phase adjusters, phantom power for mics etc) which some DBers want.
  5. Not sure they are top of every DBers list when it comes to amps. Sure, their combos are used by some and plenty of DBers use Markbass combos. But in terms of doubling, notch filters etc, it was really only EA and AI
  6. Another vote for La Bella 760FL, which I have on my '83 Fullerton-era AVRI62 Jazz. Super slick to play (don't know why but they seem better suited to my Jazz whereas the LTFs suit my Precision beautifully) and great deep tone
  7. Although EA's amps and cabs work well with electric basses (witness the aforementioned Messrs Sklar and Jones), their closure leaves Acoustic Image as the only one internationally recognised manufacturer of amps for DB. Big shame
  8. Try me with an offer. PS, this remains collection/meet SW London only as I don't have a box of these dimensions.
  9. I think its a relic from the classical guitar and double/contrabass days where it was taught that the thumb should be behind the neck rather than around. Nowt wrong in my view with gripping baseball style, what ever works!
  10. For those BassChat DBers that don't head into the General forum on BassChat, re-posting here the sad news that Euphonic Audio have shut up shop
  11. Just seen this on Gollihur's latest email (the well known US double bass retailers), EA (beloved of Leland Sklar, Percy Jones, John Patitucci etc) have shut for good : "Sadly, we must announce that after 40 years EA has ceased operations effective December 31, 2021. EA was formed in 1981 as a high-end hi-fi speaker manufacturer. In 1996 we focused attention on accurate sounding, compact, and lightweight gear for bass instruments, always emphasizing utilizing USA based sourcing and assembly. Throughout these past 40 years we have tried to make the best possible products for the best price, and to focus on outstanding customer service. We have always operated with a tight profit margin and of course, given our size, we never had the purchasing advantage of larger organizations. The worldwide COVID situation has created shipping and parts sourcing issues beyond our ability to overcome. Our supply of replacement drivers and our remaining inventory have been transferred to Gollihur music (https://gollihurmusic.com/). John and Larry will be retiring, and Gary will continue his audio construction business. EA was always a labor of love and we appreciate all those that we touched in over 40 years of business. We wish you all well and thank you for your support over the years."
  12. I priced this the same as the last 3 or 4 that sold here on BC. How about I make it bargain-acious and drop the price by a tenner so its £185 posted within the UK????* * sorry no non UK sales due to Brexit complications
  13. Nope, Heaven. Underneath the arches at Charing Cross.
  14. This was another cracking gig I went to in 1980 (on my birthday). The mighty Wah. Their bass player Washington had to leave the stage as he was sick so Julian Cope, who was in their entourage, jumped ip and jammed the bass for the rest of the gig.
  15. Found it, here's the flyer for Throbbing Gristle and SPK gig I attended (I really went to see ACR). SPK didn't pull out any sheep's heads but TG had s disturbing video show featuring at one point a razor blade cutting into a large animal scrotum (goat or sheep?) with the b*llock then dropping out 🤢
  16. My fave gig from that era. North London Poly, March 1981.
  17. Just stumbled across this thread. Saw several of the bands mentioned in the early 80s including Birthday Party and Bauhaus (on same bill in 1981, flyer below), the Banshees, the Bunnymen, plus two bands I have also seen much more recently A Certain Ratio and 23 Skidoo. Great to see ACR still banging out new materials on Mute Records and touring. Oh and I also saw Throbbing Gristle and Surgical Penis Klinik, which was not so enjoyable!
  18. Torvill and Dean will be appearing at Bournemouth Pavilion on Saturday. Thus concludes today's skaters update

  19. Very much doubt I will ever find my perfect bass. Being completely honest, my huge amount of bass turnover in the past decade reflects my shortcomings and the flawed belief that a new shiny bass with a wider/narrower neck, longer/shorter scale, passive/active electronics etc will somehow make me a better player. I now have a nice P and J and they are both lovely basses, I am satisfied which is good as it gets
  20. I googled also. This is the only reference I found. No idea if its this guy but he is based in Texas and says he is a luthier ....
  21. Regardless of the accuracy, I think the intention is obvious. If I had a bass shop in London, there is no way I would retail this
