  1. Apparently (30 second google part deux), burning celluloid smells like camphor. You can thank me later @Happy Jack (Meanwhile, GLWYS Nick. Doubt this will hang around for long)
  2. Yep the bassline on Block Rockin' Beats is a total lift from 23 Skidoo's Coup http://www.djdmac.com/blog/song-day-23-skidoo-coup/
  3. @Happy Jack apparently the laydeez like smelly candles for their birthdays (so I am told). Based on my extensive research (aka a 30 second google) I think this could work with a tort scratchplate also. Lucky, lucky @Silvia Bluejay
  4. Good job they specified " For parts or not working" or my $1k including taxes would have been sorely disappointed
  5. Nick bought a bunch of short scale strings from me and all was excellent. Cheers!
  6. I quit FaceBook a year or so back as it was just getting me down. However, at that time Nige was in my circle. Thoroughly lovely, principled guy
  7. Thanks chaps, reassuring that you both have same recommendation too. Much appreciated! Cheers Clarky
  8. Hi all I am setting up a mini pedal board with 4 pedals for upcoming blues/rock gigs: Broughton SV Preamp TC Spectracomp compressor TC Mojomojo overdrive Korg Pitchblack tuner Which order would you recommend these in the signal chain? Especially thinking of compressor (first?) and the overdrive (I want to set the SVP as core tone and use Mojomojo if I need to drive harder during songs). Thanks and sorry for numptiness
  9. Limit to 10 items listed per month. That's a few members here potentially fooked, no names mentioned lol!
  10. Tremendous swiss army knife for acoustic instruments more broadly as well as for double bass. I rather regret selling mine some months back but hey ho! Someone will get a phenomenal amp. GLWTS bassace!
  11. Paid for in 2021 so I guess thats my 'out' This gives me an idea for a Gear T@rt thread based on the number of pages of Feedback. Sadly I suspect I will "win" (cough) with @Old Horse Murphy fast closing (on 12 pages) and @AndyTravis a surprisingly limp 8! Edit: obbm and Kiogon trounce me totally (16 and 23 pages respectively) due to the high volume of sales of their most excellent cables and wiring looms, respectively
  12. I am glad my reputation has calmed down (despite the damning evidence of 13 pages of feedback) so that I am not in consideration. Besides, I collected a new (old) bass on New Year's Day 🤣
  13. banned years ago (under BC name antiloco)
  14. Boz Burrell, Bad Company. Rick Danko, The Band. David J, Bauhaus. To name the first 3 that came into my head Edit: oops, missed lowdown's reply
  15. I joined Finn Bass around 6 or 7 years ago but found it too slow moving (as in posts were infrequent and - often as not - by the same relatively small group of posters) to grab me and quickly drifted away again. In other news, its been reborn as a Spurs-supporting tennis player
  16. I was happy to pay a bit more for a Reunion Blues Aero bag. Top quality and no risk of zip nicks! Plus, with the red velvet lining, it looks like Dracula's coffin ... which is nice. I can't see them on sale anywhere but Thomann would be a tenner cheaper than Andertons if you are prepared a to wait a couple of weeks https://www.andertons.co.uk/reunion-blues-aero-series-bass-guitar-case-aero-b2?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=surfaces
  17. The vast majority of names mentioned in this thread were not banned (waynepunkdude and bass ferret certainly were). Most have, I guess, chosen to leave or take a break because life and priorities move on. A number of the named members did indeed leave in the (as was charmingly described) "mass dummy spitting event" in 2015. I was one of them and I will not rake over old coals. I rejoined after 4 years and enjoy spending my time on here.
  18. Well, his profile page says he last visited 12 hours ago.
  19. This stunning piece of classical music which was mentioned in an article in today's Times magazine. Came out in 2004 and was later apparently used in soundtrack of Shutter Island. Very beautiful indeed
  20. Bought a lovely bass from Andrew. All as described .... plus he drove the not-inconsiderable distance from the Kent coast to London to ensure it was safely delivered. Top marks!
  21. I suspect many bassists of my generation learned from Lemmy's propulsive playing on Hawkwind's 'Space Ritual'
  22. Does this fit the bill? Weighs 13 pounds, side rest, £1250, full 3/4 neck (with heel) that can be played arco etc. Oh yeah, I am selling it!
