  1. Lovely take on a J and solves the main issue (for me anyway) of the weight.
  2. I now have a double walled carboard shipping box arriving next Thursday, so if anyone is interested in buying this bass and requires it being shipped, I will have the facility to do so as of Friday week
  3. Thanks, I worded my question badly. I meant VAT and I see the Belgium VAT rate is 21%. As you may tell, my question was not purely hypothetical. So that's a sale that probably isn't going to happen ...
  4. Just for clarification, if I sell my (say) Alembic for £2k to someone in Belgium, am I right in assuming the buyer will now have to pay an extra £400ish (~20%) in import duty at his/her end ... ie, exactly same principle as if I were to sell to someone in US (though maybe exact import duty rates vary)?
  5. I hope to have shipping materials at the start of next week so for those interested please be patient for a few more days. Cheers

  7. Thanks and replied. I will investigate shipping options although I do not currently have box or bubble wrap ....
  8. Thanks and replied. Would prefer, in the first instance, collection as I don't currently have a box and bubble wrap. If that changes, I will update
  9. Of my two Sereks, I decided to go with my recently acquired Serek Midwestern as its a simple plug-and-go bass and the Grand, while rare and fun, is a bit more quirky (in particular, I doubt I would ever use the fuzz in a practical situation as it doesn't fit the country/blues rock music I typically play)
  10. PS, if anyone wanted to get this refinished in gloss black so it looked minty, Dave Wilson (bass finisher extraordinaire) quoted about £500. Would take all-in price to £2500 which would be an utter bargain compared with new Alembic prices (cheapest model starts at $8k, without extras and before import/delivery). I decided against refinishing as I figured I would be happier gigging a road worn Alembic than one that looked fresh out of the box.
  11. One of the first 3 batch release of Serek Grand basses. Never left home since arrived in the summer. Stunningly easy to play roasted, short scale neck. Volume plus 3 position selector for regular, deep/dubby and fuzz circuit. Immaculate except for one tiny, almost imperceptible dint plus the bass arrived with a small, fine hairline crack at the rear of heel (which has not shifted at all subsequently). Marmite looks. I think its cool and retro whereas @TheGreekthinks its a 1970s Woolworths special, lol! Interested @Happy Jack or @Sarlscharisma? 😁 Pics and vid here Cost me £1900 including import duty. Looking for £1800 given rarity. No box so for now its a socially distanced hand over from my front drive in SW13 (Barnes, south of Hammersmith Bridge). NO TRADES as selling down my bass collection to the bare bones.
  12. Very dinged and scarred black 1984 Alembic Spoiler (32" medium scale), weighing in at under 10 pounds. From research I discovered its a very old refin over birds eye maple and with a replacement neck pickup. Up close its really evident how heavily used this bass had been, but from a couple of metres (eg onstage) looks cool AF. I originally paid roughly £1700 including import duty from a Reverb seller in Mexico City and close to £500 at SIMS getting side LEDs and the side of the fingerboard re-lacquered (it was a bit tatty) so its super slick to play. Comes with new Mono gigbag (£180). No box at present * EDIT: BOX ARRIVING THURSDAY 21ST JAN * so its socially distanced pickup from my front drive in SW13 (Barnes, south of Hammersmith Bridge). Pics below taken after LED installation, pics in gigbag taken today. Link to Mexico Reverb ad which shows clearly how battle scarred the bass is https://reverb.com/uk/item/33972935-alembic-spoiler-1984-black NO TRADES as selling down my bass collection to the bare bones.
  13. 5th deal with Dave in 12 years, the latest just as good as the others. This time Dave bought a CIJ Mustang from me, paid fast, great comms, everything you could hope for
  14. Looks like the production run is over as Musicman website lists both the vintage sunburst and starry night as "Colour discontinued"
  15. I have owned both and they are each excellent amps which work well for doubling . Either will suit your needs in my opinion. Of the two I found the Acoustic Image slightly warmer sounding and the Euphonic Audio more hifi/clean. But there is not much in it
  16. Still no bass sized cardboard box but I can securely send in a hard case, wrap the bass inside the case in bubble wrap and put some strategically-placed cardboard sheets on the outside of the case. The case might get dinged in transit, while protecting the bass, but that's what they are for
  17. Best: my two Serek short-scales, Alembic Spoiler and Handbox 400 amp. Worst: continually thinking I can comfortably play long-scale basses and buying a Jazz, a Precision and a Shergold - all beautiful basses in their own right but unsuited to me and hence sold on (to happy buyers), each time at a loss!
  18. Merry Christmas to BassChat (and to my FaceBook bass pals who may have wondered where I am: I quit FB a few weeks ago). Enjoy!

      Happy New Year, Clarky :)

  19. I now have a Midwestern (with flats and single coil p/u for old school thumpy) to add to my "The Grand" (rounds, humbucker, 3 tone settings including fuzz circuit). Both short scale. Yum
