1. Thanks a lot for the input, old school and low power is ok, it could actually work for me then ... I just never heard of that format: 3x15".
2. Hi there just stumbled across an odd looking cab, it's a 3x15", and the owner claims it's good for guitar or bass, which I thought can't be the case. There are no hints on the cab (brand, etc.), so anybody got an idea? Bass or guitar? It's a very, very old cab, that's for sure. Thanks for any input. Edit: Opening it up an having a look at the speakers would surely help, but that's not possible right now. I just got the pic, not the cab.
3. Altough I do own quite a lot of pedals, they are not on a pedalboard. I'm posting my current seup anyway, hope that's fine ... To my defense: there actually is a board in the setup, you'll see. First my clean/sub line: Chorus inverse out (I use the chorus as a splitter) --> Octamizer --> Mole --> Magic Thunder Bass Fuzz . This goes into Dynacord Eminent II & Acoustic 301. Then the main line, part 1: Chorus --> Tube Screamer (clone) --> Ampeg Scrambler (clone) --> Juggernaut --> .... ... main line, part 2: Hyper Fuzz --> Wolly Mammoth (clone) --> Fuzz O))) --> Ox Fuzz Bass --> .... ...and, main line part 3: Flanger --> Delay --> Loop Station We're almost done, stick with me, please. From the Loop Station, the main line goes to my Ironing Board, where there is a Ringworm Modulator. I use the modulator to, well, modulate the bass loops, by turning the knobs. The main line then goes into a MusicMan HD 130 & Ampeg Isovent. There is also a Delay Monotron and some circuit bent "Relax machine" (sounds of waves, birds and the like that can be "pitched" and "noised"). Those two gimmicks go into the Dynacord, as I don't play bass whenever some bass loop is running and I'm on the Ironing board turning knobs, so the sub line is free. All in all, it looks like this. I'm constantly adding or swapping pedals in the dirt section. I'm still wondering if and where I could use my dual band compressor. I want more gimmicks on the ironing board. And maybe one of the experts could answer this: Can I split the signal again, say somewhere within the dirt section, and run this to a 3rd amp? And then, split it again ...? and again ...? I mean, how many times can you split a signal? Cheers.
4. nice pedal, got one as well, have been using it for almost 20 years, never a problem, has two output jacks, I even use(d) it to send the signal to 2 amps.
5. Je*u*, I'd love to see this .... oh wait, how was it?
Four basses. No guitars. A singing drummer.
Fuzzonaut likes this - a lot.
6. Have been to the shack as well, interesting pedals, great prices ... oh and I really like the looks too. Dropped Jonathan a line, nice guy, and he said the Tyrant and the Twin Earth are the most "bass friendly" - Hand of God and SF Ritual less so. The Tyrant started out as a meathead clone and has been tweaked over the years to "give an even heavier and meaner sound", as he put it. As I'm already having a meathead dark clone coming my way I'll just put the fuzzshack on my to watch list for now.
7.
It's gonna be agony....how do you cope with what feels like a lifetime to wait for your new toy?
Impulsive compensational shopping, or whatever they call it, might make it easier. I ordered a bluebeard last august and got some great fuzz pedals since then. Of course, I'm still waiting for the bluebeard.
8. Thanks for all quick the replies. This is a great place.
If you are using that many rigs at once with overlapping frequency bands, it suddenly doesn't matter nearly as much what speakers you put in the cab. There won't be the definition to notice any issues and such. A modern replaceable driver is best bet. The JBL is nice, but sort of precious and their niceness is best used in a situation where it can be appreciated.
Yes, true, never thought too much about freuqencies. I admit, somehow it's like wasting a great cab in a "too much"-setup - but "too much" is part of the fun I'm after.
Yea, I realised it was complicated, hence the referral to Eminence. OP pm'd. Balcro.
Cheers, replied.
[sub]Look up wembley loudspeakers who could recone/repair the existing ones and then they should be right for the box.[/sub]
Have been thinking about this as well - now I know where to look. Thanks.
9.
Presumably yours is that horn-loaded beast that's on youtube etc. Your first port of call could be Eminence themselves. Check the customer support and or user forum. Why not also contact them with and e-mail to - "][email protected] He can give you good advice on which 15" 8ohm speaker is suitable for a horn-loaded cabinet of that size. Balcro.
Thanks for that mail. Eminence seems to be the one to go for.
10.
Doom. Truckstop
Oh yeah! Well, the rig already sounds great, no question, but as there is another "4 Ohm cab spot" available on the MM why not use it? I'm also open for cab suggestion other than the Sunn 215.
11. Hello guys, There is a Sunn 215b bass cab locally for sale – which is very tempting, of course. But the original speakers are broken. So, I would have to put new speakers in it – but which ones???? I’m completely useless if it comes to speakers. I’ve been on some forums and found some suggestions like: New: Eminence Delta Pro, Eminence CB158, Eminence Beta 15A, … Used: Altec 421, JBL D-140 BUT then again, it was mentioned on the forums that the speaker choice would also be determined by the rest of the equipment I use, so, this is the picture where the cab should fit in: I use a passive bass, splitting the signal into a “clean/bottom channel” and a “effects/dirt channel”. The clean/bottom channel goes through a Dynacord Eminent II (80 Watts, EL34) into an Acoustic 301 cab (1x18"). The effects/dirt channel goes through a MusicMan HD 130 (130 Watts, EL34) into an Ampeg Isovent cab (2x10” & 2x15”). The MusicMan could take another 4 Ohm cab – so that’s where I would put the Sunn 215b. And finally, the budget: Could I get by with, say, around £150 for the pair? THANKS A MILLION for any input, advice, model recommendation. Fuzzonaut
12. Aguilar !!! Great tracking, 4 knobs to get any sound you like.
13.
2 x 4 ohms cabs in parallel = 2 ohms = fried bassman 2 x 4 ohms cabs in series = 16 ohms = very little power 2 x 8 ohms cabs in parallel = 4 ohms = most efficient Good luck with the sale. Wish I had the spare cash. Vindi
Thanks. This Ohm-Stuff is always confusing me - and actually still is, because I somehow thought 2 x 4 Ohm cabs in parallel would be 8 Ohms ... as stated by Bremen (and as hopefully would be the case with a MusicMan HD 130 I want to try). But then again, I'm way off topic here, so excuse me and bump on me ...
14. Great thread, cool rigs all over ... here's mine. (well, actually it's two, but I use 'em as one, it's not about A/B, it's Y all the way) left: tech with acoustic 301 cab, this is for the clean part, it's an amazing cab, only an octamizer on this signal path. right: Dynacord Eminent II or Marsahll 3540 with Ampeg Isovent, this is for all the other pedals. Bass is Washburn.
15. Tiverton? Had to look that up, I admit - it's shamelessly far away. Then, I was asking myself, if that amp could take 2 cabs with 4 Ohms each - it could, right? cheerio
16. Fantastic piece of gear! Great price! Too bad you're not around the corner, otherwise I'd be on your doorstep right away, having a look .... Good luck.
17.
Just let me know about those toll roads, the route shows loads of em!!
For (almost) anything called motorway you need a sticker, costs you 40 swiss francs. Check this, it's in English. http://www.autobahnen.ch/index.php?lg=001&page=014 Plan B: Trying to stay on "country" roads to save that .... well, you will do a lot more miles and probably spent around 20 or so on extra gas anyway - if you don't get lost. Plan C: Forget the sticker and don't get caught!
18. Hi Leen Ay, Switzerland, home of quite a lot not so famous things. Enjoy your trip in June, great time to come over, and if you want some "pit-stop-recommandations" for the Geneva-Schaffhausen route, just let me know. Cheerio
19. Hi Bert, Thanks for the nice welcome from way up north. I'm not too sure about the 6" and 8" cabs as the dot on the "i" - I'm more into capitals. cheers, Marco
20. Hello everybody Finally got around to sign in, I have been a „silent reader“ for some time. Lotsa great information around. I started playing bass, or let’s say messing around with it, about 25 years ago, using my brothers stuff. Whenever his amp caught on fire (London City) he decided to give up electrically amplified instruments in general and sold me his gear for almost no money. Since then, I never had any lessons, never used a plectrum, still don’t know any chords – but I’m definitely having fun. Have been in a 3-piece-band (guitar, bass, drums) for about 10 years, doing space rock. When the band broke up and the drummer left, we just kept going as a 2-guys-thing: guitar and bass. It’s more droney now, less rock, but still spacey. Anyway. As you can see below, there is quite some equipement around. I split the signal, using 2 amps, with a cab each, putting effects on both or just one of the amps. No effects board, I usually (re-)link them acording to my mood. I’m seriously thinking about getting a 2x12“ cab that might fit in with the other 2 cabs, so that I’ll drive 10“, 12“, 15“ and 18“ speakers at the same time. Well, that’s about it, I guess. Cheers and of course slanté Marco aka fuzzonaut
