Okay, Thanks Ed. Good to know. I did wonder because my Hiscox dreadnought case needed additional cushion pads to keep the guitar in a fixed position. I will keep an eye on the aluminium edging when I get one. -
Hello, Just a quick question for Hiscox/J Bass owners. Is their any movement of the bass, inside the case, in transit, please. Many thanks in advance for your learned replies.

I have one Bass Guitar which turns 40 next year. Apart from a Double Bass that I owned for a couple of years it's the only bass I've ever had. Every now and again I go in a music shop with the intent of buying a new one and come out empty handed.

33/34 years, I can never remember whether I got it in 83 or 84 and it has been well used.

Back in the 80's every bass player and his dog was slapping the bass, you couldn't get in a music shop for slap happy bass players, it was the bass playing equivalent of the EVH tapping solo for guitarists. Realistically, though it's just a another technique to be learned, it's a bit like refusing to learn how to play artificial harmonics, sooner or later you will need to know how to do it. The other day I was working out Peg (Steely Dan) and was surprised at how many bass players were skipping the slap/chorus section on YT.

Played one of these the other day and it was the best Jazz bass in the shop for playability and tone, super light too, GLWTS. -
Fender standard padded gig bag, came with a Mex Telecaster, looking to trade for a standard Fender Bass Gig Bag. Gig bag lives in Wigan so local swap would be nice, but willing to post. -

Can anyone recommend me some good quality tuners/machine heads for a Tokai Jazz style bass. Current tuners are the 3 screw variety but I'm willing to do a bit of DIY if necessary. Many thanks in advance.

Anyone had any experience changing the pickups on a MIJ Tokai Jazz Sound Bass, are the pickup cavities the same size as a Fender? The reason I ask is that I changed the pickups to a generic set a while ago and found the neck pickup did not sit very well in the cavity and was a bit of a job to get it to fit. Now I'm thinking of upgrading to a better set and don't want the same problem. Many thanks in advance for your learned replies.

Recommend me a Gibson E335 or Epiphone Casino type guitar!

Second Hand Yamaha Sa2200, Japanese Tokai ES Models, Ibanez John Scofield Model or Gibson ES339 (has a smaller body though). I've played a few Epiphone Sheratons and felt they were poor quality and had tuning issues, but the modern Epiphones seem to get good reviews. There's also the cheaper Ibanez 335, you get one and put in a set of 57 classic pickups and save yourself a lot of money. -
Gliga Gems II gets good reviews from fiddlers. I think they are Romanian made. About £250-£300 new.

+2 for Beyond the Missouri Sky - Haden and Metheny. Kenny Burrell does some laid back stuff - All Blues is mostly him and Bass with some inaudible drumming.

Not sure if I'm in the right area here, but anyway. I'm looking for a nod in the right direction for music software which allows you to transcribe pieces into different keys at the click of a button. Needs to be cheap and easy to use. Many thanks in advance.

I notice the guy in the video is stood while bowing, is it not more typical to be seated while playing in this style or does it not matter?

As the owner of a 1980's Jazz Bass I suggest you need to aware of wear and tear on a 30 plus year old instrument. Check the neck and the condition of the frets. A re-fret can cost up to £150.00 these days.

Amateur question about guitar amps, combos and cabs

I think if you add an extension speaker (assuming that's possible) you may be working the amp more than is ideal. Plus you've got the additional kit to lump round. I would suggest you get a new combo - a 40 watt valve combo will probably do the trick. Alternatively buy another Cambridge and use a stereo pedal to connect to both amps. I did this with a Vox AC30 years ago and it sounded great. -
How old is the Bass please? Is there any fret wear? Thanks.
