1. Perfect.
2. I’ll be one of those obnoxious blokes saying “I already have mine”. But, I do… and it took me a long time and $$ to get it. Totally stock and unmolested 1954 Fender P-Bass. The neck pencil date is TG 10-54.
3. 67 lbs. Not prohibitive in my book.
4. I sold it, because it sounded to modern. But, earlier this year I needed to go light and I bought two 115 Subway cabs. I love them. I often gig with just one. I should never have sold the 215.
5. My first pre-cbs was a 1956 Fender P-bass. It was a great bass and I regret selling it. I do currently have a 1954 P-bass that is my number one. So I’m not crying myself to sleep every night.
6. My gig last weekend was a little different. Local radio station sponsored/ promoted event, Tom Petty Birthday Party - at a fairly large outside venue. Several local bands hired to each play a set of TPetty, we were one of the bands (even though we are an original band). It was sold-out, about 850 people. We went on around 9:30 PM (really the best time slot) and we had a blast. I played my 1966 Fender P-bass and the provided backline was a newer GK head with an 8x8” cab. The rig really sounded good, the overall stage volume was a little loud, but the floor monitors did an okay job of keeping the vocals on top. We dressed for the show and hammed it up on stage. We knew the songs very well and the crowd was mostly familiar with our band and way into it (into their cups too). Overall a successful night and we sold a lot of our band merch. Backstage there was a keg and a ton of pizza. The radio station has been supporting our band for years, so we had a good playful time with the DJs and management running the show. Good gig top to bottom.
7. I forgot I volunteered my band to participate in a Broadway Tribute Show with about 6 local bands. Big venue, full production and the radio station putting this on promotes like mad and it will probably sell-out. I need suggestions for a 1/2 hour set. I can choose songs from any shows I want. I need help!! My band is pretty good and we can make almost anything work. We are roots rock, Americana, outlaw country, classic rock. Two strong male vocalists. I could add a female singer if I need to, but I prefer not to. Two guitars, bass, drums, all strong players. I want cool dramatic songs that don’t require a lot of orchestration. I need 5 or 6 songs. Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Rocky Horror, Grease, Little Shop/Horrors? I am not opposed to taking a completely different genre and making it our own. I need good songs, please help Heaven On There Minds - from Jesus Christ Superstar.
8. Apparently I had an account here, but I had zero recollection of ever logging in:) hello, and I’d like to make my introduction. I have a band in Florida (Cottondale Swamp), I play bass, write most of the songs, book all the gigs, and do everything. We gig almost every weekend, outlaw country, classic country, southern rock, Americana. A mix of “cover-band” bar gigs, and original gigs (festivals, openers for national touring bands). I collect and play tube amps and old basses. I have a bunch of 1950’s Fender P-Basses and 1968-69 Telecaster basses, and other basses. Too many basses and amps to list. But, my latest passion is my newly acquired 1971 Marshall Major (Model 1978) I’ve paired with a Marshall VBC412. Oh my f**king gawd! What a beast! Crazy loud and a really great deep bass tone, excellent mids (to cut through in a band) a decent highs. The Major seems to be a ridiculously powerful head. I am sure it would over power my Ampeg SVT VR w/810. I’m a sick puppy, but now I am on a hunt for a 2nd VBC412. Why didn’t I know Marshall made such great bass amps? The Major is top notch. Of course a Marshall stack is too much amp for 90% of my gigs, but when I can justify bring omg out the big guns, damn, I am going to play the Major. Next week, I am supplying bass backline for a Led Zeppelin 50th Anniversary Show. 15 bands (I am playing in two of them). The show is sold-out, outdoor stage, 2000 people, full production / stage crew etc. I offered the promoter: Ampeg SVT w/ 810, Acoustic 360/361, or Marshall Major w/VBC412. We decided that the Ampeg rigid best for reliability for 15 bands. But, I am tempted to bring the Major (head only) as backup and use it for my sets. I hope to be active on this forum and I want learn about Marshall amps and cabs, and I want to hear stories from people who gigged them and experienced them. All the best. If anyone travels to Florida for gigs or for pleasure, I’d love to meet up for a pint! Cheers!
9. I am the band leader, primary song-writer, and bass player for the band Cottondale Swamp (roots, Americana, southern rock, outlaw country). I am way into vintage gear. My main basses are early Precision and Telecaster basses. I have several 1968 and 69 Fender Telecaster basses, and my number one is a 1952 Fender Precision. I also have a Gibson, Thunderbird, a 4003 Rickenbacker, 1975 P and a 1965 P. My amps are almost all Ampeg. 1963 B-15, '67 B-18 and a SB-12. Larger gigs is either a vintage V-4B, and a new V-4B. A SVT VR shows up once in a while, too.
10.
Yep.
I prefer the VR over the CL. I set them up side by side before I ended up buying the VR. Just a little more thump, warmth and tonal qualities. Both are great amps. If you need a master volume, you go with the CL. If not the VR.... and buy a Aguilar Tome Hammer:)
11. Ampeg SVT 1970's Blueline with 810 cab. Current Ampeg SVT VR. Side by side with the CL, the VR sounds better. Ampeg SVT 810 AV is aliller cab that is close the square back cab or the 1970's.
12. Pretty much every rock band in the world tours with Ampeg 810 cabs. The new SVT 810 AV is a killer cab, greats mids that cut through the mix.... and really a bass amp these days is really just a monitor for the musicians on stage. IMHO
13. Ampeg B-15n. Period.
