Total Watts

  1. Will be keen to hear your thoughts on this. I have another MF-101 clone by Triungulo but - just like the Moog - the drive section is always active even in bypass. This Past Fx is interesting to me because it does it away with that ‘feature’ and has a master volume.
  2. Really great price and lovely instrument. Good luck with sale!
  3. I’ve been perplexed by the price increase on these in the last year or so. I bought two sets for £35 each when they were first released. It’s actually cheaper to buy directly from Amazon in the US. And I’ve bought things directly from Amazon US and always had a smooth transaction. They also offer free international returns which I’ve used before. Even with customs and shipping, the total landed cost for the flats is £62.05!
  4. This is really cool. Shame about Chase having to limit sales due to EU/UK regulations on the particular component they use. It was also unfortunate that they are discontinuing some of their range like the Warped Vinyl for the same reason. Hopefully, things will change or this will pop up on the used US market further down the line.
  5. Chris’ work is not widely known about in the UK compared to Ireland and the rest of Europe. I never understood why. So it’s not surprising that those instruments didn’t gather as much attention at the auction compared to - by your account - a bitsa Fender and sub Stingray! Someone has posted on the Chris Larkin Owner's Facebook. It seems they bought the single cut you were bidding on as well as the 6-string fretless! They are very pleased with both. I dread think what I might have done if I had been at the auction….possibly have walked away with all seven!! Haha! If any of those instruments come up for sale again, I’d definitely say have another look….although you might have to fend off me!!
  6. Thanks for sharing what you noticed about the condition. I’ll be keeping an eye out for when some of these instruments come back up for sale and having a general sense about the condition will be helpful. Thanks also for sharing the final auction price. The curiosity got the better of me so I subscribed to the Price Guide. It’s seems that the final sale price for all seven of the Larkins were between £600-£750. In my twenty years of searching for used instruments, those are some the biggest bargains I’ve ever seen. Whoever did manage to get one got an incredibly special instrument for a fraction of its actual value. I notice that someone who bought the Larkin EUB at the auction for £700 is now listing it on eBay for £3500. I think that is a little optimistic but shows how undervalued these instruments were at auction!
  7. I know the time has passed but do you recall seeing some of the Chris Larkin instruments and what the condition was? These would have been the most valuable instruments of the whole auction.
  8. I’ve just come across this thread now. Always sad to learn about any passing. Whilst some of the listings were over valued, some were significantly undervalued. Del had a long relationship with the luthier Chris Larkin and five of Chris’ instruments were included in that auction, including some truly one off custom pieces made just for Del by Chris Larkin. I would have valued those Chris Larkin instruments at £1k-£2k per item with the lower valuation being very very conservative. The auction value was an average of £300-£500. I think that’s a bit worrying for the family if the auction house was putting those kind of valuations on instruments of that quality. Does anyone have access to the final selling price for the Chris Larkins? I may subscribe to the Price Guide just to find out but thought I’d ask here beforehand. I really hope for the family that any of the Larkins went for at least £1k
  9. That’s cool. Also very practical for dark stages!
  10. I literally placed an order for a Triungulo Barbanera yesterday….fudge.
  11. We’re a few days out from the release and having weighed up the evidence I’m prepared to throw my hat into the ring. I’m predicting….. a multi-modulation a la the GFI Synethesia. An envelop filter is technically a modulation effect, right? @Quatschmacher Raise one eyebrow for yes, two for no…..
  12. Oh absolutely, the original will definitely hold its value. It also just looks cool!
  13. I've always wanted to try the Meatball regardless of how massive and impractical the enclosure is! Haha! Thanks for the write-up Ped. Even at a bargain price, I don't think I'll ever stretch to owning one so we can live vicariously through you. Has anyone ever come across the FTELECTRONICA clone of the Meatball. I wonder how close it gets? I also don't mean to steal your new pedal day, Ped! Congrats on the find! https://www.ftelettronica.com/product/envelope-follower-triggered-filter/
  14. I think the phrase, ‘I've no idea what it does but I want one’ sums up my last three pedal purchases…..and I couldn’t be happier. And I don’t know what this does either but it’s a cyberpunk edition; so you neeeeeeed it! Haha!
  15. Yes it did about a week ago. First impressions are somewhat mixed. It does produce a dark and warm sound as you might expect from a 6-stage analogue phaser. However, I’m finding that overall it is rather subtle and despite being able to adjust a number of parameters, the actual impact is surprisingly minimal. I haven’t been able to produce a deep phase effect despite spending considerable time with a looper and making micro adjustments. Perhaps that is just the overall character of the circuit. Further exploration is needed. It’s been a few years since I actually had time with the MF-103 but I do recall that it wasn’t subtle and produced a rich deep phase. There are some shortcomings that, whilst minor, are worth mentioning. Firstly, the clipping indicator light has been moved internally - as opposed to it being external on the MF-103. It is only visible from an angle and is quite dim which requires me to cup my hands around it to see when it moves from green to clipping. It is supposedly tricolour but because it’s recessed so far inside the pedal, it’s only possible to make out green and red. It really should have been mounted externally or omitted entirely. Secondly, the range of rate control is wide but doesn’t offer the same level of fine-grained adjustment the MF-103 has with its additional range selector switch. This could have easily been included on the Pearl and something that the JFX version has retained. Finally, the pedal defaults to on when powered up and you need to turn it off at the start of each session. I have only one other pedal that does this and that’s the EBS Uni-chorus. It’s somewhat annoying. I do wonder how accurate a clone this might be. My only reference at the moment is the MF-103 plug-in and while there are some similarities in the general character, adjusting certain parameters on the plug-in - like frequency - yield very different results when similar adjustments are made on the Pearl. It might well be that it is the plug-in that is very different from the original MF-103. Overall, it is certainly not a bad sound and I haven’t spent enough time yet to conclude whether it will end my analogue phaser search. Im trying to find somewhere to rent a MF-103 for a direct comparison but I don’t know how successful that will be. In the meantime, I did manage to find a Mu-Tron Bi-Phase II circa 2020 for a sensible sum at a Cashconverters of all places! I’ll be picking it up from the post office tomorrow. I plan to do a direct comparison this weekend alongside my trusted EBS phaser along with your @quatschmacher Phase 90 and Orbit C4 patches. A battle of the phasers! Coincidentally, a video was released today demoing the Pearl on guitar. It’s the only demo released so far. compared to the JFX demos, the Triungulo sounds a little underwhelming.
