1. Allegedly, wooten is far better than the guy from oasis/blink 182 or BUT Who earns more money? lets say per annum the man with the ability to play any style, perform unaccompanied and still sound great, conversent in all styles, solo upon request, play 16th notes with ease,, slap, tap, thump etc, etc, etc has solo albums that the majority of people have never heared of, plays for a group that the majority of people have never heared of, but is regarded among his peers as "the greatest" or A root note player, who has a good image, an endorsement, who plays around the world in a very succesfull band Who is financially better off?
2.
You still seem to be suggesting that it's because they had a connection to Leeds College of Music.
a coincidence perhaps?
3. Guys, My op should have read I am very dissapointed in the way SOME musicians from leeds college of music turn up to a function gig, thinking that the gig is beneath them and not bothering to listen too or learn the set. When they struggle to play a simple 12 bar blues, or loose their bearings when soloing over mustang sally it really winds me up. The music is all charted out but still they struggle. Give them the pre dinner jazz and they are fantastic, but a pop gig!!! I just find it a bit insulting, when I put my heart and soul into ANY performance, regardless of the style Sorry for any offence
4. 1.point taken 2.point taken 3.point taken very well put, doddy is quite right that beer and posting dont make a good combination.
5.
Ha ha - our keys player is a Leeds graduate!!
Bet he's sh*t then and doesnt know any popular song!!!!
6. leeds jazz course produces sh*te musicians
7. please reccomend me some good players from leeds uni ( bass, sax, keys, guitar, etc) I will keep the working all day long, If there are any!!! whom arent too proud to play "pop music" for £150 for a local gig
8. Bass players to me are really cool and down to earth, and i love them. I often invite bass players into my home (for non sexual purposes) but too sell/buy basses, and i feel totally at ease. A drummer would scare me and also a guitarist. but...... sometimes we all need to find other musicians, or recomend others to dep or otherwise when we are busy I want to start a thread for musicians to reccomend and to avoid (NOT BASSISTS) Name and shame sh*t deps, players and names that are banded around. Name good players who are unreliable, name and shame them...... and name good players so we can all benefit. im gonna start with sh*t players........ anyone who has recently graduated from leed uni "jazz course" Regards Mark
9. Howdy This last month, ive become aquainted with a very busy and well established, corporate, wedding Northern based function band! The band leader plays the kit, he is nice and solid and got some chops. THe vocalists are great (male and female) but he uses a lot of deps (me now included) The band leader produces full charts for every member of the band(its that organised) But..... The last 3 gigs I have done have contained various guitar/keys players (graduates from leeds uni ) Sorry to say, they are all f***ing awfull!!! some punk keys waller from leeds uni, 4 years into his degree gets lost soloing over "mustang sally" !!!! guitar player "4 years at leeds" has the contempt to not even listen to "celebration by cool and the gang", shows up and cant read the charts, or even remotely play the tune. w***er Leeds coolege of music You are a f***ing discrace, your graduates are a discrace anyone who has a degee from leeds, please burn it!!! Any aspiring musicians out there, Dont go to leeds. Get a well paid job, some occasional lessons from a good guy on basschat, learn loads of tunes, and keep busy Regards Mark

14.
Holy sh*te. Can you not waft things like this under my nose when i'm selling up!!!? The Celinder i played last week was ridiculous, i'm sure this is exactly the same.
Sorry Dude!!! Its really sad you are selling your gear mate. Its for the right reasons and Im sure in a few month you will soon be back searching and purchasing once more!!! Good luck Regards Mark
15. FOR SALE My recently purchased Celinder J Update , You may have noticed that I am currently selling off ALL of my 4 string basses, and that they are all Jazz style basses 4 String jazz has been my preferred bass for over a decade, but I seem to be requiring 5 string basses for the majority of my work now. My jazz basses are a distracton and are hampering my move on to 5 strings so a drastic move by me will regrettably see all my 4 stringers go. Back to the Celinder, theres plenty of hype about these basses and when you play one you will see why. This is the ultimate in super jazz to me and far surpasses anything I have ever played. I am ultimatly looking for a 5 string version to replace this with. Although I have my one eye on an 5 string Alleva so may consider trades etc Danish Ash body, finished in translucent blue with a subline grain. Weighs in at 9lbs there abouts and has great balance Green grove pre amp with celinder pickups and hardware. Complete with hard shell case Looking for £2000 posted anywhere in the uk. Please PM me for prices for postage overseas Payment via bank transfer or cash on collection. Regards Mark

17.
Well that really depends. I don't earn a lot of money, so the answer changes in function of how much I have left over after I've paid for rent, food and bills. Usually I'm lucky if it's more than fifty quid a month. Optimistically, if I never bought anything else, it would take me about four years to afford your wife's bag. I mean, in theory I suppose if I made a hundred grand a year I would have tonnes of money left over after paying rent and bills and buying food. I'm not sure I would think a two and a half grand bag was a better deal merely by virtue of it being a smaller percentage of my spending money, though.
If your flannel/bullshit is as good as your bass playing........... you are in line to be the next victor wooten!!!
18. Its how you play them! I had a wonderful 59 reisue that looked stunning, but for love nor money I couldn't make it sound good. I make my living from playing music (a very small one at that!) but the precision defeated me I put it up for sale and a young and tallented man came round to buy it, and made it sound great through a 15watt practice amp!!! much better than I could(maximum respect, and lots of envy) I have never been able to get on with a precision, I appreciate that its the founding bass etc but give me a jazz and all hell breaks loose!!(well kind of) mabye you can be in my gang of "people who cannot get a decent sound out of precision basses.com" Regards Mark
19. many thanks guys, i will try the battery later
20. Im not very technically minded so please bear with me. I took my new bass to a gig on friday, hooked it up to a markbass rig lmk2 and 4x10 gain was about 75% volume between half and 75% and it was distorting like crazy but was the only way i could be heared in the mix. When i turned the gain or volume down, the distortion subsided but I couldnt be heared over the drummer. I have another bass that when using this configuration only requires 30% gain and under half volume with plenty of headroom left. my question is, would a bigger amp i.e 1200watt markbass solve my problem. or is the pre amp on my new bass just sh*t? appreciate some help Regards Mark
