Hi all. Have got a new pedalboard and I no longer have enough room for the bank of power supplies that power my pedals. I don't have many but they have different and specific requirements. I'm looking for an all in one solution and it's driving me nuts trying to find an answer, so I thought I'd ask on here. What I have on my board is as follows: Smoothhound Classic Wireless - Korg PitchBlack Custom - Darkglass B7K - Sansamp Dass Driver Deluxe - Rocktron Banshee 2 The Pitchblack, B7K and BD Deluxe aren't the issue. Smoothhound takes a + centre pin but still 9v DC. This can be rectified with an adaptor (Which Chris supplied me with) and running it on an isolated power supply. The Rocktron Banshee 2 takes a 9v AC power supply. Closest thing I could find was the T-Rex Chameleon which does all of the above except the 9v AC, it does a 12 AC. Can anyone suggest a power supply that will do 9v DC, will work with a reverse polarity 9v DC adaptor and also run one 9v AC? Is there any work around for the Chameleon? Thanks for any help.

Paul just sold me a Darkglass B7K pedal. Great communication, fast postage and the pedal is ace. He has great knowledge of what he sells and is great to talk to. Hope to buy from him again as it was a pleasant experience. Thanks for the pedal Paul

I tried going straight into my Terror head but it's a pretty dark sounding amp and I'm sure those EQ controls on the front are just for show, lol. The head I got the nice tone out of wasn't powerful enough to gig with. That said I think I have found my solution. I run my bass wireless from a smoothhound into a pitchblack custom, then into the Sansamp deluxe then into a banshee 2 then to the return of my terrors effects loop. If I use the parallel out from the sansamp to go direct to the banshee then the output of my sansamp goes direct to the return of the terror I get a really good sound. So I think the banshee was sapping a bit of the top end. I did notice the other gig that when on there was a slight drop in output to the amp. So problem solved all round. I have purchased a B7K from a user on here. Would be cool to see if it's any better than the sansamp or a good drive in itself.
Just for clarification, when you say it doesn't go high enough, do you mean the treble frequencies which it boosts aren't in a high enough range or just that it doesn't offer enough boost from the treble control? Either way, my suggestion would be to try adding an EHX Steel Leather pedal to what you have. When I was using a cheap Behringer head for a short while, I found the Steel Leather made a massive difference to my bass' presence in the mix - really cuts through!
I basically don't get high end. The level is fine but not a high enough frequency. I'll checkout the steel leather but I'm more looking to replace it rather than add it.
You're plugging in to the Orange OBC115? - I suspect that could be where your problem is as the single 15" speaker doesn't really 'do' treble. It doesn't have a tweeter either.
That was my first though until I plugged a different head in and went directly into it. That speaker was able to produce the desired amount of treble. I am looking at a 4x10 to see if I can get the frequency I want from my current setup but though looking at a different pedal now knowing the cab can produce it might be a different avenue to explore.

Hi all. I'm currently using a Tech 21 Sansamp Deluxe direct into the return of my Orange bass terrors effects loop. I get a great sound except for one thing, a lack of treble. It seems that in that department it just doesn't go high enough for me. Has anyone out there used a pedal that sounds similar to the BDDI but has more treble? I used to have the VT bass but found it lack bottom end and when I tried the BDDI I switched. I only really use one channel on the Deluxe so I don't require a pre-amp pedal with multiple channels etc... Thanks.
Some years back i replaced my pro4 for an Orange Terror bass...i did A/B them for a while and thought they were very similar.
What Cab are you using with that? I have the Terror Bass 500 and a OBC115 and can get no where near an SVT 4 sound.
The Bugeras really are too cheap to be true aren't they? Mind you, Behringer really has upped their game and I use their pro audio stuff so maybe...
I just picked up a Bugera BTX36000 for a very cheap price. I have to say it's a stunningly good sounding amp. Weighs a ton though. For the price it would be hard to beat. You actually get no where near the wattage it says but it's got more than enough power to gig one or run multiple cabs live. The sound sculpting you can do is amazing. I mean there's so many options to get the sound you want. I think as an alternative to the SVT 4 it's a winner.
Aria SB1000 fretted and Wal Custom fretless, Smoothhound wireless into GK Backline 600, mostly flat EQ, FX loop to Boss BC2 and - for the moment - Boss ME20B for experimentation. Cabs are a GK MBX410 and an Ashdown 1x15. All cables are OBBM's finest. The sound is big and deep-chested with enough top end for the Wal to cut through when necessary. No plans to change anything apart from FX, except I might be tempted by a newer 1x15 with a horn
Good call. I forgot I use a Smoothhound too. Adds a nice brightness to begin with. So for me it's either a Gibson Thunderbird, Fender Jazz or Precision into a Smoothhound wireless, into a Tech 21 Sansamp Deluxe, Rocktron Banshee 2 then into the effects return of an Orange Terror 500 and OBC115.

Cool. It's interesting to see what people are using. I was expecting to see a preferred setup trending but it seems everyone uses something different, no standard as such.
-
Had a little search and couldn't find much. I would be interested to hear/see what amp people are using to gig with and their setup that goes with that. For instance I bypass my Orange Terror preamp and go directly into the effects return with a Sansamp Deluxe. Then that all goes into a OBC115. So what do you guys all use, what kind of venues do you use them in and how do they sound?
-
Very tempted by this. Are the front speakers a different model to the back ones? Do you know which model the speakers are that have gone? What caused the front ones to break down and what's the condition of the back ones? Sorry for all the questions. Have been looking in to getting a 4x10 to match my 1x15 and this would tick the boxes if it were working. Since it's not I need to check. I can only find one speaker that matches the spec you give. Thanks, G.

Custom bass needs replacement pickup. Suggestions?
sirmuppet replied to sirmuppet's topic in Repairs and Technical
I have but not with the new neck. It had a mighty mite neck on it but that was really bendy. Everytime I went to use it I had to make minor setup adjustments. Ended up getting a USA Jazz bass that someone had destroyed the body. So I took the neck from that and had my tech put it on. Plays great but compared with my other basses it doesn't sound great thus the issue. I'll get a few pics and post them up for you later. -
PJ basses pickup selecting & balance
sirmuppet replied to sirmuppet's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for the replies guys. Are the Entwistle pickups any good? They seem very cheap. I could only find one demo online. I've done a little bit of reading up on it. I may not actually use the bridge pickup. A few artists who look like they use them don't live. I just figured if it were there then it should work. I have a QP in my Aerodyne in the P position so I think I might try one in that. If the P is still too powerful then I'll move the J QP to my P bass special which has a SPB2. Intrigued by Entwistle though, the price makes me weary though. -

Custom bass needs replacement pickup. Suggestions?
sirmuppet replied to sirmuppet's topic in Repairs and Technical
I might just do that. It's not getting a size that's an issue as it's a standard MM size pickup. It's tone and output. I could have the bass routed for a P-bass pickup if it comes to that but most people seem to use active preamps with MM pickups but I want to keep it passive due to the control spacing and my other basses being passive. -
Custom bass needs replacement pickup. Suggestions?
sirmuppet posted a topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi all. I have a custom build bass which I feel I need a new pickup for. It's a Thunderbird body with a maple jazz neck, the pickup is a Musicman style with a passive volume and tone. The exact pickup is a Kent Armstrong ( This one http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/electronics-c17/kent-armstrong-guitar-pickups-c100/kent-armstrong-bass-pickups-c101/kent-armstrong-musicman-bass-replacement-pickup-p707 ). The issue I have is I play mainly P-basses and a Gibson thunderbird. I find the Kent Armstrong pickup too bright. I want to stick with passive so no adding a pre amp. The sound I'm looking for is fat with enough output to match my P-Basses and Thunderbird. Any suggestions? Thanks. -
I had a 72 Jazzmaster once. The frets were worse than that and the luthier I took it to said there was enough left. He dressed, levelled, crowned etc... and it played better that it ever had. That said he did say next time I'd need a refret. It also depends on if you like low frets and your playing style as to if low profile frets would work. So it will depend on which luthier you take it to and their personal experience and preference on what they would do to it. From mine, I'd say there's enough there.

I want an economical wireless bass thingy.
I was considering one of these, but now I'm having second thoughts!
Ha ha. Can't beat em and a conga the Green Day too boot
Good to hear you're enjoying the system Grant. Guess you found the cause of the 'farty sound'
Errr, no but it's not there. No idea what it was. Guess it could have been that weird angle I had it at or a lead, maybe even my multi adaptor (all of which have been changed). Either way it's working great now. 7 gigs, a few rehearsals and still no need to change the batteries -

I just bought a Smoothound with a second transmitter. I did so based on the fact it was the only unit to do what I needed, it was easy to get a second transmitter and the price is outstanding for what you get. I can say that after a couple of setup issues (My fault I might add) that I love it. I spoke to Chris to get info on how best to place it etc and was getting replies within 2 hours. The customer support is just as good as the unit. I've now gigged it last weekend (5 gigs in one weekend) and it didn't fail once. Well worth the money. I even was able to participate in a conga while playing on Sat. FYI Chris, if you read this it's Grant that emailed you a couple of weeks ago. -
Hi guys. I know some of this has been covered as I've read through the forums and done some searches online. I have a few PJ Basses and as I'm gigging more and more I'm realising that there's issues. For instance on the P pickup I really need to have the pickup height set correctly otherwise I get one string louder than the other, kinda goes without saying but I had to do a few little tweaks here and there. The Jazz sounds lower in output and when I put them on together the bass disappears into the mix, so much so that my guitarist thought I had stopped playing. My issue is I really would like a hum cancelling J pickup matched with a P pickup. I'll list my PJ basses and the pickups I have and perhaps you could suggest what I should change. Fender Precision plus with a set of EMGs (Not sure of the mode). I like this bass but it doesn't have the grunt of my passive basses thought the balance is a lot better. Fender Mex deluxe (passive) Seymour Duncan SPB2 and STK-JB2 Fender Aerodyne Seymour Duncan SPB3 and STK-JB2 Fender Aerodyne Stock pickups Am looking for a rock tone with hopefully a humcancelling J pickup, not a deal breaker but I did notice the Aerodyne J's buzzed so it put me off having a single coil J but if there's one that won't buzz as much with the P then I'll give it a try. FYI I know the SPB3 is really high output, I just had it lying around and thought I'd try it, Still have the original. My other basses are a Gibson thunderbird with stock pickups, a custom Thunderbird with a Kent Armstrong Musicman pickup and a Fender Jazz bass with SJB2 set. I'd ideally like my PJs to match the output of these. Any help guys?
Get yourself one of these instead, it can cover so many tones in one pedal! http://www.bassdirec...Distortion.html
Now that's interesting. I did think about the Source Audio Soundblox Pro Distortion but this looks more along the lines of what I need. I think from what's been posted the Source Audio or the Darkglass are ones that tick the boxes. Leaning towards the Source Audio for flexibility, though the Darkglass did have the tone in the video but I know I could get that tone from the Source Audio.
The silverburst version is germanium right? The silicon version is gainer and meaner sounding. For me, the Diabolik has a bit more heft - if you like the Brassmaster sound, unless you need the honkier settings, the Diabolik may work better for you.
Yeah it's a double germanium version. Had a quick look at the Diabolik, looks like it could be interesting.
Listening to blur it sounds like you need something with a radical distortion and mixing options. I had a B'assmaster (not sure of the model) until fairly recently and liked it a lot. I found it "fuzzier" but a really strong sounding pedal. I moved it on mainly because of its size and to make some space. I'm pretty happy with the Mantic Vitriol that replaced it. I like the sound at the start of this vid in particular but notice the position of the distortion nob: https://www.youtube....h?v=c4L3PwjvkZs I also have a Dark Duality on the way which sounds like it is capable of getting similar results. I'll let you know when I receive it. https://www.youtube....h?v=Rw5lOr6hsvg
I'll check those 2 out and let me know about the Dark Duality. I think my issue might be the type of B:assmaster I have, but if I'm going to change it then it's good to have options.
He used an old Marshall Shredmaster on song 2. The Shredmaster is a dis-continued and sought-after high-gain distortion pedal, made for guitar. I've actually got one, and it's entirely possible to recreate that sound. However, there is only one combination, within all the available parameters on that pedal in which there's enough bottom-end to make it worthwhile. It's a limited window, but if you're sick for that particular sound, then it's the way to nail it.
Yeah I'd heard that. I stayed away from it due to it being a guitar pedal and I thought it would probably lack bottom end. Wasn't sure if he used it live or not. Though if it does what I need it to and I'm not going to change the sound from song to song then it might be worth a shot.

Hi guys. This has been covered in other threads to a point but not specifically what I'm after. I need a drive pedal for live playing. Currently I have the Silverburst B:assmaster and the Boss ODB3 and can't seem to get a sound I like. The B:assmaster sounds thinner than I'd hopped and when I get a good tone using it I find that the drive blend is down and not really got much drive on it. With the ODB3 I can get a good tone but get so much feedback with it I end up having to use a noise suppressor. Am I doing something wrong? The B:assmaster gets so much love and from the demos it should tick the boxes. Have I got the wrong variant? The tone I'm trying to get is something along the lines of Blurs song 2. I get pretty close by maxing the drive on my Sansamp Bass Driver Deluxe. I also use the drive on Plug in Baby by Muse and find this works pretty well for my band rather than using the effects he uses on the recording. Just nothing I'm doing id 100% what I want. Just need a thick and loud, melt your face off fuzz/drive. Any suggestions on what I should do?
