I actually know a few guys who have Fender and Gibson Guitars/Basses who actively put stickers, tape, remove truss rod covers etc... so you don't know they're playing a Fender or Gibson. That said, if you like your bass and you feel comfortable with it then it's all that matters. I mean Slash is a prime example. His main Les Paul for years wasn't even a Gibson but it had a Gibson logo on it.

Love the block inlays. If I ever went for a 5 I'd probably go for this too or something very similar.

Fantastic! love it!

I have the MXR M80+ and the Tech 21 VT Bass DI. It depends on what you need. Both are pre amp DI's. The M80+ for me does a better fuller clean tone than the VT bass. I'm not set on the MXRs Distortion channel much, I mean it's ok but there's better stand alone drive pedals out there. The VT bass does a great clean tone, maybe not as full as the MXR but certainly more to my taste and the gain allows you to get a really Ampeg type tone. Can get very aggressive quick. My pick of those 2 would be the VT Bass but that's if you're after a DI with a Preamp (which is a good idea). If you're after a stand alone DI then ignore me

I loved the tone of my Terror Bass 500. Lately I think I was looking for more treble than it could produce. That said, putting a preamp in via the effects loop seemed to work great. Would love to try via an Ampeg 8x10.

Nice looking Jazz Bass. Glad to here it's as good as you hoped. I regretted selling my Jap 62 reissue. Was well beat up and had been gigged a lot by a professional. Went for peanuts a few years ago on Ebay. Looked much like yours. Ah the memories...

ORANGE 1x15 Cab FS/FT £230 WITHDRAWN....

Yup, it's the first active bass I've truly got on with. Was gonna put it back to passive but now I'm thinking I'll keep it as is. Think I will keep an eye on their site as there's a few other used basses I like the look of.

Yeah I'm not one for hiding on stage I had a sparkle Jagmaster years ago and it started a lot of conversations. I'd been looking at this for a while and was not about to pay £1099 that a store was asking for them to import it in. Then a used one popped up and I managed to get it.
-
Cheers guys. It's actually really nice to play and the tones you can get out of it are fantastic. I've never been one for active basses but this is good. Total bargain too.

Hi all. Just got a killer new bass from Japan. Been trying to get this since it's release but the whole not exporting from Japan thing was a killer. Eventually one came up used and I got it. It's a Fender JB62/FCH which is basically their 62 Jazz Bass in silver sparkle but with a factory fitted Babicz. In addition it's had an Aguilar obp-1 preamp fitted, a stacked volume pot, EMG quick access battery compartment, mirror pickguard and a hipshot drop tuner. Came well setup, frets polished and to be honest it was a lot better than it was described. All in all a great buy and import charges weren't that bad. Here's a couple of quick pictures.
This. PayPal gets a lot of flak, but this is precisely the sort of sitiation it's designed to help take the risk out of. Ask the seller to invoice you for the bass through PayPal as a commercial transaction. That will create the necessary paper trail that you'll need should anything go wrong. PayPal are generally very good at backing buyers (moreso than sellers), so their policies work to your advantage. But as with all such deals, trust your gut feeling. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it - and vice versa
Exactly this.

Pay with a credit card and you're protected. Paypal too. Man even credit card through Paypal. I've bought from all over the world and never had an issue that can't be resolved one way or another. Best thing to do is ask if they accept the above payments. Tell them you feel unsafe buying from them and that paying with those gives you protection. They should understand and may ask you to cover the fees (which won't be much). If they ain't willing to do that then walk away. When I sell items I always try to make sure the person feels safe. I never ask them to send payment as a gift via paypal (you are unprotected this way). If they can't make you feel safe then it's not worth it. Just today I'm currently waiting on a bass coming from Japan. Had no issues and they accepted Paypal. If you need any advice feel free to hit me with a PM and I'll try to help. Thanks, G.

Bon Jovi 'Keep The faith' - which bass used to record it?
sirmuppet replied to Paul S's topic in Bass Guitars
Yeah, I've seen a few bands do that. I think they get bored and you can't blame them for wanting to change it up a bit. Doesn't always work though. I should say if he did change it live then it was probably Jons decision or at least it would have to be run by him. He's a hard task master! Even when Alec played it live it sounded different but the feeling is closer. Sounds really sharp. http://youtu.be/t2vDn6Ph1YA If you are going to change a song then this probably isn't the best way to do it http://youtu.be/lPq2Mm_1610 -
Bon Jovi 'Keep The faith' - which bass used to record it?
sirmuppet replied to Paul S's topic in Bass Guitars
As i type this the song is actually playing on Absolute Radio, lol. It was him that played on it. I remember seeing a thread that asked if he should have got credit for writing the bassline as it's the driving part of the song. If you check here http://www.huey-mcdonald.com/discography.php you'll see he's credited on the album. That said, after having a listed it sounds as their is a warm gain on that tone. Very tubey and compressed. -
Adding a new cab to my setup, what watt what watt?
sirmuppet replied to dumelow's topic in Amps and Cabs
Here you go: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251016-new-rig-decisions-and-advice-please/ Honestly it got me exactly the tone I wanted. Obviously you may not want the same tone as me but using a preamp pedal and going via the effects loop could be cheaper than buying another cab. -

I'll jump in on this one. I had a similar issue with my Orange rig. I liked the low end but the top end was just not there, no matter what I tried. So I thought I'd get another rig and posted a thread recently about options. Some nice and informed people told me to bypass the preamp by going via the effects loop. You'd need a preamp pedal like what I'm using (Tech 21 VT bass) but the difference was amazing. I found my 1x15 could produce those highs and it was the preamp causing the issues. I'll look the thread up so you can so the similar problems I had and the suggestions to solve it. -
Bon Jovi 'Keep The faith' - which bass used to record it?

I always thought it didn't feel the same live as the studio version. Glad it's not just me. It's also less of the driving force behind the song too. -
Bon Jovi 'Keep The faith' - which bass used to record it?

ern500evo is right. Hugh would have played on that, he did so on everything bar 78000. It wasn't long after Keep the Faith (maybe 3 years) that he replaced Alec. Here's the oldest recording I know of with Hugh playing in Bon Jovi live http://youtu.be/5hqBNkotp3s Looks like a Sadowsky to me. That said I have Fenders and a Gibson and can get this tone from them. Just Youtube keep the faith live, you'll come up with tons of videos. Best way to get a good ton is to see what he sounds like live. Sometimes you just can't emulate a studio sound live. I find a good P-bass gets the tone, helps if you have a J pickup in the rear, but that's just me and my setup. FYI, I'm a huge Bon Jovi fan and I regularly play this riff in a sound check, much to my bandmates detest -
Pete was awesome. The pedal I bought couldn't have been better described and he was a pleasure to deal with. Thanks for the pedal Pete and I hope to speak to you again on here. Thanks, Grant.

I've bought a VT bass DI last night so should be here tomorrow. No need to use the DI on the Terror, though I will check it out. Just in case I ever have to deal with DI from the head I know where I stand with it. I have to say a huge thank you to you all. The whole idea of bypassing the preamp has opened up an entire new way of getting my sound and it nearly there. On monday I'll be able to try the VT Bass DI and M80 together and see what I can get at volume. Thanks again,
Live I run everything into a Hartke HyDrive 410...if I need another enclosure I have a HyDrive 115 that I can add as well. Before I got the RBI, I used the BDDI all the time, live and studio. It's got more than enough output to drive a poweramp. About eighteen months ago I purchased VT Bass rack unit, but it didn't do it for me, so that got sold on here and I purchased the RBI, this forms the backbone of my tone. The BDDI is on a PedalTrain board with a VT Bass DI unit. I use the Pedaltrain set up for recording or where I'm having to use someone's rig at gigs. Live, the BDDI and RBI are pretty similar - but now you have me thinking. Live, I tended to use the bass/treble controls on the BDDI whereas I tend to leave the RBI controls pretty much flat. That's something that's never really crossed my mind! You obviously have a mid cut/boost on the RBI as well (also generally flat) and a few more routing options. I tend to concentrate more on the drive and blend options rather than messing around with the tone too much. Irrespective, it's all good. I've seen Pete V with a number of Thunderbirds...I'm almost certain that the one on the Islington DVD is a fairly rare Gothic version - these were a short run (100-150 units) and the ones that went unsold were retooled to become the Gibson Blackbird models. I've got a Gothic as well as three others. Nice bass. Whatever happened to PV? The Bassknives album was supposed to be finished years ago and it went very quiet. Seems to have dropped off the face of the Earth! P
Cool. That's some good info on the Tech 21 stuff. I'm looking at getting the VT bass DI to replace my VT bass. I like the idea of the DI option should I need it. Would you know, if I use the VT bass and not the Oranges Pre-amp, can I still use the DI on the Orange or does that not work since I bypass the Preamp. Pete's not doing anything now. My cousin was in a bar in Camden and this guy started speaking to her. She recognised him but it didn't click for 2 weeks it was Pete. He's apparently got grey hair now but rocking it (according to her). The Bassknives kinda stopped after Pete said the album got leaked. I never saw or heard of anyone with the recording. All the guys like Paul went on to do other stuff. He has had a few T-birds over the years, you're not wrong there, lol. I know he's had a non-reverse Epiphone, a sunburst standard, a 5 string t-bird (which he hated and only put 4 strings on it), a vintage non reverse (that he bought with his girlfriends Ebay account and won't take it out of the house). He's also got a BC Rich and used a 4003 or 4001 bass as the backup on tour to his number 1 black bass. The Black bass is a late 80's Gibson thunderbird. He used it in the Diamond Head days (when it looked new) but has gigged it to hell and back. He's broken the neck on it 3 times. You can see him using the bass on live stuff he does on the Pure a Revolt tours which pre-date the release of the Gothic. Also the jack it front mounted and not side mounted like on later T-birds. It's the same one he used on the Islington DVD. He removed the pickguard too, even exposing the hole underneath. If you don't mind I may pick your brains a bit more regarding the Tech 21 stuff. This whole thing has really opened up so many options for me now and I dunno where to start. Like a kid and a sweetie shop
