1. Spurred on by the basses on the settee thread, since summer was supposed to be upon us, how a bout a thread with our pride and joys in the garden..? Here's my new 2010 ACG & my 1981 Wal beside the shrubbery Lets see some more.... D.
2.
Also check some Wharfedale for that money.... big bang for buck.... steer clear of KAM as they are horrid
Yeah, Wharfdale Titan 12A's are very good speakers, around £600/pair. Only 13kg each as well. D.
3. Not long through the door after picking up the bass. Had a wee shot at Alan's place and actually couldn't play it very well as I've never played (not seriously anyway) or owned a 5 string before. The bass is amazing. Back home I seem to be getting to grips with it although the flat fingerboard and asymmetrical neck are going to take a few weeks to get used to. The tones are pretty damn good though and I may seriously be able to retire the Wal. Thanks Alan for a lovely bass and getting it ready for my birthday. Cheers!! D.
4. Here's a pic of the rear, in a way, better than the front: Picking the bass up tomorrow....... cheers D.
5. Here's a teaser pic (as much for me as it is for you) until I pick the bass up this week sometime. A very happy D.
6.
Check out the Elixir website. They do a 4-string set in extra-long scale (45-105, product code 14087), and then you'd have to separately buy the only extra-long B they do (130 taperwound, product code 15433). As to whether anyone actually has these in stock... dunno.
Yeah, I spotted them yesterday. I work in music retail so I'll ask one of the Elixir reps when they're next in.... cheers D.
7. I spoke to Alan yesterday and he's looking to get the bass finished by Tue next week (my birthday as it happens). The Elixir strings I sent him are too short - only the inner winding is passing through the nut. I must need XL scale strings to fit the 35" scale. Anyone know? He was also wrestling with a pickup that wasn't doing what it's supposed to do..... No photos yet, but there will be loads when I actually pick it up - I just need someone to give me a lift down to Moffat as I don't drive! cheers D.
8. I know Gil and he's for real. Amazing player too..... The thing is though, he'd really like a Wal but thinks they're too heavy. My Wal is heavy, but with the right strap it's a breeze. He's big enough to stick up for himself as well! D.
9. I've just restrung my Wal with D'Addario EXP 50-105's round wounds and my Jazz bass with D'Addario Chromes 45-100 flats. Total opposite from each other, but for some reason I'm just loving the midrange burp that the flats are giving me on the neck pickup of the Jazz (I rarely use the neck, maybe just a bit of blend). I've even removed the ACG 02 preamp to make it a bit more simple. The Wal: unless it's a fretless, flats shouldn't be let anywhere near it. It's the most wide open bass I've ever heard! D.
10. Just bought a pair of QSC K12 speakers to replace a pair of ageing PV speakers and wow, what a cracking pair of cabs. Not used them at a gig yet but fired them up the other day at home and have to say even a low/moderate levels the detail from these things is superb. I could happily use them as hifi speakers if I really wanted to. No bloated or overblown sound at all. We'll be using them with a pair of Mackie SWA1501 subs (older Italian versions) so it should be a fairly decent system for not a lot of outlay. I'll let you know how they handle a gig, but for now, anyone looking to get a pair of active PA cabs, these have to be on your list. I did consider the newer SRM450's and the EON515's but the K12's just seemed to have the edge... D.

13. Almost impossible to destroy, these cases are watertight, crushproof and dust proof. £90 delivered. Needs new foam, but this will only cost £26 delivered from a place like this: http://www.casemarket.co.uk/peli-1520-foam-set-1095-p.asp If you have an expensive mini amp, then this case is for you. 20. bump!
21. I bought it second hand, so don't know how old it is. It's not the true bypass version (at least doesn't say so) but these are built to such a high standard, it really doesn't matter. D.
