Martin Herrick (I don't know his BC username) will custom build you whatever you need. martinherrick,
www.herrickpickups.com Will be ordering the 8 coil pickup shortly for a project as well... I have couple of Metcal soldering stations, and they're brilliant. I use a tiny tip and I've never needed to change it for anything else when doing any amp/guitar work. Instantly hot and will not burn out the tip if you inadvertently leave it switched on. They can be found on eBay now and again, but I got mine from a mate at BAE Systems when they were being replaced. D,

Going by the diagram on the SD website, the bare wire that's loose goes to the same point as the green & white. Should be a simple job to re-solder it back there... D.
Fellow Wall-ers: what strings would you recommend for a fretless custom (Mk1 4-string in newspeak)? For years I've had mine strung with round wound Rotosound or Elite Stainless - looking for a bright sound. Now I have a fretted Warwick Dolphin too, which does BRIGHT in spades - and have promised myself never to play slap on the fretless Wal again! And reckon I should probably stop sacrificing the Wal's lovely ebony fingerboard. Many years ago I dabbled with flat wound ("Swing Bass"?) and "half round" strings and generally hated them due to a lack of zing and the difficulty of playing harmonics. Now, willing sacrifice some "zing" but I still want to play nice bright harmonics (ie SOME hope of hitting the last note in Portrait of Tracey ;¬) ) What do you think? Recommendations please.
You could try the EB Cobalt flats, very smooth and brighter than you'd expect. I use them on my fretless Stingray and they sound great. D.

The original D800 has a built in, albeit fixed HPF. Why would it need to be adjustable? IMO, they should have added a compressor instead of the variable HPF. Much more useful.... D.
Try Marcello at Nardelli: http://nardellibass.com. Marcello sells bodies on eBay, which is where I first found him, but he'll build and finish something custom for you. He made the body for my Surf Jag - http://basschat.co.u...jagtele-mashup. It was way less than £400 (although Brexit stupidity will make it more expensive than I paid now). Phil
I have a P body made by these guys and it really is excellent quality, and was very well priced. D.

Worth putting dimarizios in my MArlin P?

Also, whatever you do, make sure there are 250k pots in there.... D. -
I also have the MXR B.C.D. and although I've just played about with it in the house, it sounds like a keeper. Surprisingly, not too chorusy unless you set the wobble factor high and as said, the xover is a great feature. The flanger might be good if that's your thing (would have loved this to be a phaser). I currently use the chorus in my Nova System, and I love the over the top, sweet chorus, but there's a big bass boost when engaged which is pretty annoying and I can find no way to get rid of that, so will be moving back to individual pedals. I really love the Nova System though..... And surprisingly, the £30 Beta Aivin bass chorus was a great sounding pedal as well. D.

I have 2 Eich 115XS cabs and while I'm not exactly sure where the crossover point is, the hi freq driver sure is more useful than a tweeter, esp. for fretless. The 1210S looks interesting as well as a 1 cab solution. There are sure to be others as well... D.
-
Or the Eich S212, M212 or L212, depending on your taste. http://www.eich-amps.com/cms/content/home I used to own the Tecamp Neo M212 and it was the best single cab solution for me. The size/weight/sound was perfect and I should have just kept it! D.

Here we have a nice 1976/77 Ibanez Phase Tone PT-999 phaser pedal. All original apart from the Velcro on the bottom and the missing screws. It's in typical condition for a pedal of this age and it works perfectly and sounds amazing - much more musical than the MXR phasers of this era (or any other for that matter). The cheapest on eBay currently is about £144 and it's in slightly better nick than mine, so hopefully the price I'm asking is OK. Price plus P&P.

Here we have an original 70's Shin-ei FY-2 Companion Fuzz pedal, in very good condition. It's not immaculate, but it's pretty damn good. Works perfectly and sounds flippin' great. One owner from new. Some of the crazy prices on ebay seem unrealistic, so I've priced this at way less than those. This is a firm sale only as I'm only selling to raise some funds, so unfortunately no trades for now.
I use 2 custom "cajon" bags made by Roqsolid for my One10's. Works fantastically well although I do get a bit of stick for the pizza delivery bags or for bringing my own carry out to the gigs!
Ha. David was telling me that and I meant to rib you about it.....do you deliver as far as Kirkcaldy? D.
Talking about that Patrick video? I've wondered too why it's so flappy! Lovely colour jazz too.
I think it's a trick of the eye due to camera shutter speed, in the same way wheels spinning on tv look like they spin backwards at a certain speed.... D.
Interesting reading regarding the "crossover" era. Here's my example, PB1805, which has a solid body of, I think, mahogany, and inlaid stripes on the front and back. I've never seen another Wal quite like it
Mhhhh...nice neck! And, further to my other posts, mine has Niangon facings. D.
I have to do it. I can't help it. The sound. It has... heft.
Yeah, but what kind of heft..? D.

Trev, what about a wee feature on these "crossover" models, showing the experimentation Electric Wood were doing in those years before the std Custom recipe was found? Happy to provide better pics.. D.
Now that is nice and interesting, .... wal never made alot of basses with multi body cent lines, and definitaly not with twin ( triple really) sandwich layers between the core and top, each side. ?? i think he made about 6 brothers, yours if the same is only the 3rd one i have seen. this looks like a LH version of my old one which i had for a while and sold to mike G, USA Think he still has it. which was the Last Pro bass made number PB1859, is the back the same as this ??? http://www4.cs.fau.d...al/walspec.html (pics taken by me) Edit,,, sorry another question, Mine and the other one i have seen were both hand waxed french polished and not lacquered, (as is the one i still have now). when pete refinished PB1859 for me he did say the others were hand polished. Is yours ?
No, the back is as per pic below. I know Pete was experimenting with laminates back around the time this was made with a few different ideas kicking around, there's a couple on the Wal database - yours is likely there? With regards to the finish, I don't think it's lacquered, as it's not too shiny - a lot of the sheen, especially on the front appears to have faded in the near 37 years it's been around. This is P.B 1848. Did yours have a switch on the Vol control? Basking in the sunlight

Just received this from a seller here on Monday, and it's not nearly chorusy enough for me. Is in extremely good condition, with original box and works well with the one passive bass I've got, but my active basses are too hot for it. It's a cool sound but not for what I require right now. Will swap for a TC Corona or sell for what I paid for it. Price inc delivery. Cheers Deek.
It doesn't look like they are active. They are powered. I think most people would expect an active system (two power amps and an electronic crossover) for that money.
What's your opinion on active versus powered? D.

Here's an idea Mesa Boogie - ditch the Voicing knob and give us a nice one knob compressor. I'd have had one of these otherwise... D.

I have a 1980 Custom, and it does sound great - it sounds very compressed on the bridge pickup fully on with a very nice attack/bite to all the strings - I rarely use the neck pickup although I sometimes blend a wee bit in to add a bit of girth. No other bass sounds like it, although a Stingray can sound close (ish) in my opinion, but is a bit more aggressive. My Stingray (and my RAY34 for that matter) feel nicer to play as well, and the weight is not so bad with a neoprene Mega strap. I'm gonna have a local builder make me a fretless neck sometime... D. oh, and here it is..

No pics? You merely tease us!! D.

Shroeder 212pl......what's dropped off??

I've messaged him on FB for you... D. -
To the owner of the bass block - how would you think the unusual eq arrangement on it would work with a fretless bass, in order to push the mids more than you normally would on a fretted bass? D.
