X2 were bought by Line 6 a while ago and the products look interesting as they're completely digital, and are supposed to have a much wider signal band with no signal compression. The bad news is they're not licensed for use in the UK, yet! June I'm told. D.

No room for adjustment on my Warmoth neck
deksawyer replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
I´m not sure if I understand what you´re after. You want lower action but more relief in the neck? Sounds counterproductive to me. For a nice, low action, I´d suggest getting the neck as straight as possible and adjusting the action by lowering the string saddles. Just my 2 Euro-cents...
Exactly what I was thinking!! We need a bigger picture!! D.

Korg have taken the distribution over from Sound Tech, so could be a factor... D.

I've read all the posts in this thread and it's very interesting. I've never had a custom bass made for me but I do own a Wal and a Jaydee Roadie. The Wal is, as you'd expect (even for a 29 year olde instrument) sounds and plays amazingly well. The Jaydee is in bits atm as I plan to refinish it. It's the passive version and on the bridge pickup it's almost unbeatable for that burpy JB type of sound. At the other end of the spectrum I have a £100 no name jazz bass (actually a Jim Deacon) which has a BaddAss II, Bartolinis and an AC EQ02 preamp. This is the bass I turn to most as it feels easiest/better to play than the others. With a new set of strings and a good set up, it easily competes with the other in my stable; which I often get the mickey taken about from various band members. The Wal certainly sounds better and has much more variation in tone, but it's nowhere near as nice to play (I'm a Jazz Bass neck fan) . Just goes to show you...... D. PS - I'm considering getting a 5 string and I think a custom model is on the cards, as the good wife said she'd donate a grand or so. Been looking at Enfield basses..........as well as a lefty Lazarus!!

I much prefer the Ultimate GS-100 or the K&M Memphis 10 alternatives. The mechanism on the Hercules has been known to fail. None of them are cheap though, but if your bass deserves it................. D.

The way I envisage the logo is a black satin screen print onto a brushed aluminium plate. Easy to do, not very costly, looks good and pretty hard wearing. Sizes; well it's a tough one but the long version above should be no less than 170mm long, preferably more. I approve of the modded text as well - well done. This version should be around 100mm wide. The excess black areas are a bit of a bold move but I think it looks pretty smart. 2 versions - 1 with BFD in the middle and 1 with it offset to the top. MarkBass F500/500W-2.1kg New in Box- NEW PRICE!

If you can stretch to it, then I can humbly recommend TecAmp. I've been using Tec cabs for a few years and they're fantastic (my old rig is still in my sig. below). However, the TecAmp Puma amps are a new amazing revelation and exactly what I've been looking for. The Eden Nemesis probably was the best sounding amp I've ever heard and I would have loved it (and still have it) if it weighed 3kg. The Puma is a bit cleaner, obviously much lighter and is just as capable of deafening the drummer. It sounds really, really good with my Wal. It's maybe too clean for your needs though, so the Nemesis would be the amp I suggest for you (the newer RS700 looks even better). As for cabs, get yourself a TecAmp M212 4ohm cab and I guarantee you, you will not be dissapointed. This really is the best cab I've ever used. You could even use two of them with the RS700 as it'll work down to 2 ohms. Actually, any Tec cab will probably blow you away - they weigh nothing but sound huge. I'm 40 years old and I've been playing bass since I was 17 and I really consider myself very lucky to own such amazing gear. My Wal is nearly 30 years old but it works so well with ultra modern Tecamps! I can only suggest what I've actually used and being an old codger, my choices seem to deviate towards the lighter end of the bass amp weight spectrum and the amps you've singled out as candidates really don't differ much in size or weight from what you currently own to merit a change at all. You need to seriously rethink!! D.

What a wicked thread, and like many others, I'm very jealous, not only of you having a studio but the time and skill involved in actually making it!! Best of luck with it and a Merry Christmas to everyone. D.

Alex, if you want any design tweaking/development of the logo, drop me a PM. No charge!! D. -
I've been waiting on these lightweight German items of beauty for months, but boy was it worth it!! Kork DTR2000 tuner, Tec Amp Puma 500 head & Tec Amp M212 cab. No name modified Jazz (BadAssII, AC 02 Pre, Bartolini P'ups (not shown). And my 1980 Wal. Total weight of rig about 25 or 26kg. D.
If you buy a J Retro not only will you get a fantastic sounding pre but you will also get the absolute best in customer service should you need it. John sent me the parts to fit my J Retro into my Lakland DJ4 for free - The man is a star and deserves your business.
Yes, I'd agree with that as well. John was kind enough to loan me a J-Retro for a few weeks last year which I was very grateful for. We chatted for ages on the phone and he seems to be a great guy!
Bit surprised by that dude. I spent a while at Alan's last weekend messing around with his EQ01 on a variety of basses and I was extremely impressed. The variety of sounds on offer might be a little daunting, however I'd rather have too many than just a couple.
Well, I'm a Wal user and the tones available, as you probably know, are pretty much endless. As I said, I've not had a chance to fully play with the EQ 02 since I sold my amp/cabs a few weeks ago and my new TecAmp stuff hasn't arrived, so I'm probably jumping the gun a bit by saying I'm not impressed so I'll glady retract that statement - I'll leave judgement for when I do actually use it more. The EQ 01 is a different beast and I'd prefer one, but I'd have to buy one of Alans basses (apart from financing one, is not a problem I can assure you - I'd love a left handed 4 string "Lazarus"!!) D.

I've compared them back to back and the Audere did it for me. Much more variation in tone - the z switch is pretty damn good. Similar build quality, no noise problems with either. Both are good but the East lacked extremes of tonal variation, in other words was a bit too polite (for me at least, I can still understand why it is highly regarded). The Audere has variation in spades. Both used with Bartolini 9J1's. I regret selling mine - I have an AC Guitars EQ 02 and although I've only played with it for an hour or so, I'm a bit dissapointed in that as well. But I'm prepared to put a bit more time into that to see if it is suitable for my needs. Time will tell! D.
