Your own basslines that you think flick people's switches

The one that comes to me is around 17 years old at least, when I was thin, had hair and was in an indie pop outfit...... Westone Thunder 1A and a Fender BXR300 combo. Bloody fantastic. Simple stuff, but effective imo. my bass lines If you want to hear more, we were called the twist - the better stuff is nearer the bottom; skip the live stuff. D. -

+1 on the Hi-Sys. We use the 12" version along with a Mackie sub and it's pretty damn loud. Spares can be easily sourced as well. D.
So I sent a loan Retro to you 3 weeks ago Derek, have you been able to try it? Do you have any comments? Cheers John
Hi John sorry for the delay. Yes, I've been able to try it, although very breifly. First impressions were that it wasn't as bright sounding as the Audere, although I find this a good thing. Tonal adjustment seemed to be subtle, but it was high in quality & noise free. Build quality is very good and ease of fitting is excellent. My cavity wasn't deep enough to take the battery and the J-retro, but it's a cheap Fender copy so I'm not too worried. I'll have a further play this weekend and get it back to you during the week. Again, thank for letting me have the opportunity to try one of your units. I've just bought a Wal, so replacing the Audere at this moment in time isn't gong to happen, but I'll be in touch again at some point. Thanks again! Derek.

Well, if you excuse the clumsy finger style, this is basically a flat sound from the Wal, ie tones pushed in and at 10 and equal pickup mix. Recorded through a Toneport using the generic bass tone. There's a lot of variation available, but I don't have the time to record.... D.

For those of you expecting a brand new shiny Wal that I've waited 3 years for, I'm sorry to dissapoint. What we have here is a 27 year old Custom/Pro crossover model, bought from the very nice Mr Scriven in the classifieds. A lefty as well. A mate of mine owned several Wals in the 90's and I had a go on his then, but being a lefty it wasn't much fun. I could see the attraction and the quality oozing out the bass (he had a very nice all black/gold Geddy Lee version) so I've always hankered after one. When Alan was selling his, I just had to have it, the wife approved and 3 weeks later, it's just turned up on my doorstep (ParcelForce as well - no problems!!). If you've never tried a Wal; TRY ONE!! This must be te easiest bass to play I've ever had and the electrics are very classy. It needs a wee clean up but it's in fine fettle for a bass so old. I'm looking forward to using this....... D.

For a not-so-bad live recording of The Polis (from a digital camera - a casio I think) check out this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUwj5WM3G0Y That's me hiding behind the right speaker!. A few people have mentioned the Zoom H4; it's OK but the H2 is far better at this sort of thing, especially recording a band rehearsal. Cheaper as well. D.

These basses come from the same factory as Jim Deacon & SX. I have one, I've gigged with it and they're remarkable value for money. D.
BTTT? anyways man, just thought i would let you know i am no longer interested in that bass - sorry im wanting a 6er cheers for wasting your time on me though
Back To The Top!! no worries man - I'd hardly say I've spent any time on you, either....... D.

The Tech cabs are very good. My 2 12" cabs are light, sound great (IMO) and are very portable and take up hardly any footprint area on stage. They also sound amazing with the Eden Nemesis 650. I'd love to try one of the 4x12's though........ D.

His existing Marshall cab (I assume) is 4ohm. D.
How can an amp be more efficient running through 1 cab at 4 ohms, if you're running 2 cabs at 8ohms, therefore running the amp down to 4ohms, then its exactly the same resistance and power output. It would also sound louder with two cabs as you're pushing more air through more speakers. For example if you were running your amp with one 4ohm 2x10 and the same amp with two 8ohm 2x10's, i would expect the amps efficiency to be exactly the same!! But i would expect the larger rig to 'sound' louder Not that i know ANYTHING about amps really lol Si
The key to this conundrum are the words 'Ashdown Superfly'!! D.

I can ship it for £35 but this includes a brand new hard case to ship it in (which in it's self will be wrapped in cardboard etc...). Alternatively, I can have it shipped in a cardboard bass box, inside another cardboard box - the way they come from the suppliers. Call it £20. Hell it's late and I need to go to bed! D.

1978 genuine Ibanez Rickenbacker copy. Has some paint rash on the rear, some of the chrome is rusting, one of the pick-up screws is a replacement and one of the tuning peg ferrules is missing, but other than that it's a corker for a 30 year old bass. Plays well. Looking for £400. Will ship. More pics here. A future classic. D.
Think I might need to clarify. I currently use a Marshall 412 400w cab. The 210 will be to help cut through a little better used at the same time. The Ashdown amp I have is the reduced special offer superfly sound control have on sale at the moment. Every review I have read on them say they are much more efficient running through 4ohm cabs so I really am not looking for an 8ohm one. Besides the amp itself suggests 4ohms and I have had two offered for sale since this thread was opened so I dont think it will end up being as hard as I first thought
I use a superfly as well - as a practise amp. D.

I'll be selling a Yamaha 4ohm 2x10 cab very soon. Never gigged - never even left the house. Lightweight, well built and sounds surprisingly good. Get in touch if you're interested. And I'm in Fife also!!! D.
