1. Open amp night sounds dangerous. Could such a gathering of bassists finally create the Brown Note? (Let's hope not, actually...)
2. Month and a half later... Still selling, one or the other or both?
3. Actually, really rarely! My board has expanded so much over the years, but all the types of effects have stayed in the same order, so it falls fairly naturally under my feet. Saying that, I have got one song we do with at least ten effects changes in it, so I'm improving in my tap dancing...
4. Here's one from back in the day. Please don't judge, I sucked back then: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0vcj8U2PIw&feature=share&list=PLF2E6F8471E71A925 And one from more recent times: http://youtu.be/MvTMkdM1IP8
5.
I'm struggling to resist one of these at the moment. Really struggling...
Give in man, give in!
6. Normally studio recording for the arrangement, but then live recordings for reference for solos, breakdowns, endings etc
7. Finally got a pic of my ric up:
8. Well, by the time I went (2000-2001) it was called the London Music School (LMS), but still in Wapping and still over the Bass Centre. That place was awesome, and was responsible for lack of cash well into my working career...
9. Rickys are pretty rare anywhere and everywhere, but especially so the 4004's. It was bad enough tracking down a 4003, and that's supposed to be the 'standard' model. I'm kinda in two minds regarding the Cheyenne. On their own merits, I quite like them, but they have am excessive price-tag, and when it comes down to it, I just prefer the 4001/3 looks... On the other hand, considering the rarity, if you've found one, go for it!
10. Oh, and the band site is getting there. Facebook page is partially up and running: https://www.facebook.com/threesecondfool
11. I would always, recommend a clean blend (which the ODB-3 has in its favour). There's a few bass-specific pedals that offer this built in. Depending on budget, I personally prefer a guitar distortion in the loop of a blend pedal. I use an Xotic X-Blender set to approx 2/3 O'clock blend (mostly wet with a little clean blend underneath), and use a Russian Big Muff and Proco Turbo Rat. For reference, both those pedals have different issues - The Rat kills the lows, which is an obvious problem. The Muff actually has loads of bottom end, but very little mids - so the definition is lost. Worth trying out whatever your local store has to offer (then go to ebay...)
12. Just figuring out the new Photobucket thing. Pic of the pedalboard up first:
13. Right, new Photobucket account set up, lets see if this works:
14.
Shame im not about. Belated valentines outing with Mrs bassmeg. Dirty night away at the devils punchbowl actually, so cant really persude her to pop in. What sort of tunage do you and your dear fellows produce?
we'll get some more dates in the diary soon i hope! I guess our sound is fairly straight rock stuff, but we've got a lot of varied and obscure influences as a band, so there are some oddities too. At the momeny we are about 50/50 originals and covers.
15.
Alright Dave, a Southsea lad here, you got to post when and where you gig. I have to see how all of those pedals can be used in one set!
Hey, well for the moment next saturday 23rd is the only one in the diary! 7.30pm at Eastney cellars. £5 on the door, buy im assured that this includes a free drink!
16. Yeah, they take some getting used to after years of Fender use, but its worth the effort!
17.
I sure am, really enjoyed playing all that last night, Glad you enjoyed it too. Yes, that revolving door was a pain, when we started using the side door and asked people to let us through with the gear, a few guys got quite jumped up about it.
Thats a pub gig for you... Out of curiosity, what was the main bass you were playing? Im pretty good at identifying gear, but couldnt pin that on down! I caught a glimpse of the TC Electronis gear on the way past.
18. Yeah, I tried cutting back but, you know, once an addiction takes you...
19. Hey guys, I picked up one of these last month and i've got to agree with some of the above comments - they're much classier looking in the flesh! The finish on the back - make a beautiful coffee table... So, if there are only 25 of these around, how many owners have we got here?
20. Hi guys, I'm Dave from Portsmouth. Been down in Portsmouth about five years but just getting going on the gigging scene. Play with the band Threesecondfool, formerly Kid Zero, formerly Citizen Unknown! Into all types of music and trying to get out and see live music wherever its happening locally. Gear wise I'm now playing a 'Walnutburst' Rickenbacker 4003, but also use a Fender Jazz and Musicman Stingray. Amp is a Gallien-Krueger 1001 through a Markbass 1x15. I've recently upgraded my board to a Pedaltrain pro with the following: BBE Supacharger and Dunlop DC Brick Boss TU2 EBS Multicomp 2x Gigrig Loopy 2s Digitech Whammy EBS Octabass Xotix X-Blender Moho Mods Russian Big Muff Proco Turbo Rat Bass Big Muff EBS Unichorus EH Freeze EBS Stanley Clarke wah Boss BF2 Boss DD6 Think that all (for now...)! Bit of a pedal-nut (or pedal-file as my guitarist calls it...). Hope to get more involved round here soon!
21. Hey guys, Just catching up. Been hanging around over in an alternate forum, but figured that linking up with other UK bassist was probably a good move. As for this thread, moved into Pompey bout 5 years ago. Trying ever so hard to get gigging locally! Joined a band beginning of last year called Citizen Unknown. Our singer left, so we recruited and changed to Kid Zero. Then our drummer left and some upstart rapper stole our name! So, next saturday, 23rd, I have my 3rd debut gig in the last year with Threesecondfool over in Eastney Cellars. On another note, jimryan - you the guy from Mr Big Stuff? We saw you guys last night (couple huddled by the door as you loaded in through the revoloving doors)! Excellent set! I started out on blues and soul stuff, so got that sort of groove down fairly well, but never quite managed the disco 'bubbling' bassline.
