1. Handover sorted! Bass will be making its second appearance at the Eastney Cellars in Pompey on Saturday night! Even got our guitarist to make a donation towards it already!
2. Hi guys, We're back on line! In the downtime, James and I have sorted the first handover! The BC Baton will be making its second appearance with my group Threesecondfool at the Eastney Cellars in Portsmouth this Saturday 23rd, at around 8.30ish. Trying to convince the headlining acts bassist to take it on too, but haven't heard back from him yet!
3. I don't mind sharing a rig with the other bassists on the bill, but I have to object a bit when I'm in a support slot, and the headliners decide that my rig is nicer than theirs...
4. I kinda like the cover...
5. My favourite was a song called 'Little Piece of Chicken' from years ago. It's by no means the best line that i've ever come up with, but it had a certain bounce that I've always liked. Plus the solos were epic: http://youtu.be/PX76GKo6EtY
6. It's not huge, but I need to be able to carry it myself! Still packs a punch though!
7. Well, mrstheelvy said when we go married that I didn't have enough space for another guitar. So I didn't buy one. However, I did buy a guitar body...then a guitar neck... then a guitar bridge... then some tuners...then some pickups....
8. I use a little Gallien-Krueger 1x12 combo. It's really compact, only just bigger than the speaker, but puts out 150 watts, so is good enough for a gig. Have to turn the treble way down though (working with piezo pickups).
9.
No one from here that signed up came down. Assuming I make it to LBGS I'll bring it with me and pass it on from there.
I was there, but had to leave early before you guys finished! Hopefully we'll get things sorted and it'll get its next gig soon!
10. We're in the Eastney Cellars on Saturday night. Loading in 6pm-ish. Doors are open 7.30ish, but it is ticketed.
11. Hey, I don't really have a free evening to pick it up from anywhere this week, but if it's still around Pompey at the weekend, I'd give a plunk for a song or two on Saturday.
12. I put mine close to the front of the chain (only after my tuner). Just evens out the signal between finger-style, pick playing and occasional slap, so the rest of the effects get a similar (or at least predictable) input level each time.
13. Open amp night sounds dangerous. Could such a gathering of bassists finally create the Brown Note? (Let's hope not, actually...)
14. Month and a half later... Still selling, one or the other or both?
15. Actually, really rarely! My board has expanded so much over the years, but all the types of effects have stayed in the same order, so it falls fairly naturally under my feet. Saying that, I have got one song we do with at least ten effects changes in it, so I'm improving in my tap dancing...
16. Here's one from back in the day. Please don't judge, I sucked back then: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0vcj8U2PIw&feature=share&list=PLF2E6F8471E71A925 And one from more recent times: http://youtu.be/MvTMkdM1IP8
17.
I'm struggling to resist one of these at the moment. Really struggling...
Give in man, give in!
18. Normally studio recording for the arrangement, but then live recordings for reference for solos, breakdowns, endings etc
19. Finally got a pic of my ric up:
20. Well, by the time I went (2000-2001) it was called the London Music School (LMS), but still in Wapping and still over the Bass Centre. That place was awesome, and was responsible for lack of cash well into my working career...
21. Rickys are pretty rare anywhere and everywhere, but especially so the 4004's. It was bad enough tracking down a 4003, and that's supposed to be the 'standard' model. I'm kinda in two minds regarding the Cheyenne. On their own merits, I quite like them, but they have am excessive price-tag, and when it comes down to it, I just prefer the 4001/3 looks... On the other hand, considering the rarity, if you've found one, go for it!
22. Oh, and the band site is getting there. Facebook page is partially up and running: https://www.facebook.com/threesecondfool
23. I would always, recommend a clean blend (which the ODB-3 has in its favour). There's a few bass-specific pedals that offer this built in. Depending on budget, I personally prefer a guitar distortion in the loop of a blend pedal. I use an Xotic X-Blender set to approx 2/3 O'clock blend (mostly wet with a little clean blend underneath), and use a Russian Big Muff and Proco Turbo Rat. For reference, both those pedals have different issues - The Rat kills the lows, which is an obvious problem. The Muff actually has loads of bottom end, but very little mids - so the definition is lost. Worth trying out whatever your local store has to offer (then go to ebay...)
24. Just figuring out the new Photobucket thing. Pic of the pedalboard up first:
25. Right, new Photobucket account set up, lets see if this works:
