1. I just stumbled across the PB1839 ad the other day and although I thought it seemed a bit too good to be true fired off an email just in case. Strangely I've only found this and the Talkbass threads today, after sending the email (as an aside, Jimmy - and good man letting people know about this - sold me my Alembic Triple Omega when he worked at the Bass Centre). I've not had a response - maybe because I asked for specific photos - but will avoid like the plague now, although there's no way I'd have bitten without seeing the bass in the flesh anyway. How do people get away with this stuff without being reported?
2.
Love mine too. The bite button, introduced on the DI model is perfect for a more mellow sound, e.g. P-Bass with flats... then turn it on for a more aggressive roundwound sound. It does have a few minor issues: - The clean portion of the blend control is very low volume compared to the Sansamp side. I thought I would be able to use it as a pure clean amp set to 0% blend, but it doesn't get loud enough set like this. - The level coming out of the FX send is affected by the master volume control. If you use the FX loop, turning up your master could distort or otherwise affect your effects! On every other amp I've used, it goes gain -> fx loop -> master volume, which is much more sensible. - I've not tested the DI yet but won't be surprised if it too is affected by the master volume. Pretty poor show if so, you don't want your PA volume affected if you decide to adjust your on-stage rig volume. Perhaps someone could chip in here?
Yes, the DI is affected by the master, unless there's a way round it. That's my only gripe really, but it does seem a bit of an oversight; I'm normally always tinkering with my onstage volume.
3. I've got 2. ;-) I was looking for a micro head that did a convincing vintage Ric tone (Squire, Rutherford, Glover etc) and this fitted the bill perfectly. Bear in mind I was looking for a whole micro system though (my band is acoustic with cajon, no drums) and I play mine through a Barefaced One10, which is fabulous with it. I tried a bunch of heads that I didn't get on with over a long period of time and then eventually A/B'd the VT against GK MB500 and Fusion (I'd whittled it down to these) at the Great British Bass Lounge; I preferred the VT Bass. Very versatile and very easy to drastically alter your sound. I love mine.
4. I bought one - sorry, two - a few months back based on a shoot-out in The Great British Bass Lounge. I specifically a/b-d with the GK MB500 and Fusion, IIRC. All sounded great but the VT had much more of the vintage grind that I prefer and I simply found it more versatile. It pairs wonderfully with my Barefaced One10, which I took along for the trial. I also bought the VT pedal which I much prefer to my old BDDI.
5.
This thread is not helping me in the slightest. Does anyone want to trade a Gen1 Compact for a One10?
Having had both........no. I'm using my One10 with a Tech 21 VT500 head and it sounds fabulous. Anyone looking for Squire/early Glover-esque tone in a rig the size and weight of a handbag couldn't go too far wrong with it.
6. How is it when you amend the "price or trade value" and then save it doesn't change? Anyway, as noted above, price drop to £495.00 due to sudden-onset guitar-based GAS.
7. This seems to come up every time I don't have the money or need the money for something else. Lovely bass and I really rate Paul's work.
8. Up for sale is my Warwick Alien Rockbass Deluxe 4 string fretless. I ordered this from Promenade Music recently (7/6/16) on a whim and picked it up 11/6/16 on the day it came in, so it hasn't even been sat about in the shop. Unfortunately due to the width of the body it's currently aggravating a chronic right shoulder problem I have, although in all other ways I really enjoy playing it, so I'm thinking it may be best to sell it. Fingerboard is ebony (Gary at Promenade was very taken with it), back and sides are bubinga, soundhole inlay is abalone, neck is mahogany (medium scale, as are all the 4 string Aliens to my knowledge). Preamp is a Fishman Presys+ Bass with built in tuner and bridge piezo. I've only used it at one rehearsal and maybe for a couple of hours at home; it's still got the tags on it and is as it came from the shop (and direct from the distributor as I picked it up the day it arrived). I'll throw in a new Stagg STB10 AB XL gig bag that I bought specifically for it. I paid £799.00 for it - happy to show receipts - but I believe the Gallery will do them for £689, so given it's mere weeks old, barely used and the gig bag cost me £30 plus postage it's up for sale at £495.00 or nearest sensible offer. I'm not going to give it away so if I can't get a very close offer it'll stay for now. No trades and collection only. EDIT: the price drop is because I've just been hit by six-string GAS (the skinny-stringed non-bass kind) for something I've seen.
