1. The Everson I played at Bass Day in Manc a few years back was, in my opinion, superior in every way to the Fodera I played on the same day.
  2. Hi, do you have any clearer pictures? Also, what are the weight (bass only, not including case) and string spacing (centre to centre) at the bridge?
  3.
Gutted. I knew he was ill but didn't expect this.
I didn't even know he was ill; I'm utterly stunned. I've been keeping away from stuff as much as possible due to a (another) very bad year adversely affecting my anxiety/depression. I was just looking at the Kanye (no he can't) thread for some much-needed light relief and saw this. In a while this will sink in and I will be very, very, very upset indeed. My favourite bassist, although strangely enough I came to him very late. Met him twice too and thankfully got to tell him I thought he was the best, which he seemed genuinely touched by. R.I.P. Chris.
  4. How is this still here? I know it's a fair wad of cash but this is a glorious bass.
  5. It even has dots, which my '91 lacked.....someone please buy this!
  6. I had one of those heads years ago. My favourite sounding amp that I've ever used, and I've used a lot.
  7. I used to have a Pedulla MVP that I traded in for a Wal Custom. Arguably the worst trade I ever did; I liked it far more then the Wal.
  8. That really is rather lovely. It's the one that was made for Scooby, isn't it? I do really like Paul's basses and one day, when I finally get round to it and am not being interrupted by other things, I hope to get him to make me something (or two).

    gone

And another wicked P bass! Niiiiiiiiice..........
  10.
It is indeed the same one . . . . and yes it's extremely light . Probably about the lightest Fender I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few over the years . Really beautiful bass man .
I too played this in the Gallery. It's probably my favourite ever P Bass and I've been lusting after it ever since. If I wasn't currently in the process of having a '68 Ric restored - which is the 2nd thing to interfere with my projected Limelight purchase (I will get there!) - I would've been very interested in this. I was having some nerve problems with the P body contour but they seem to have settled down for now. Best of luck with the sale, it really is an awesome bass, one of the nicest I've ever played.
  11.
I know which one I would book if I had a gig
So do I. ;-)
  12.
There's certainly a difference of appreciation here. BR, to me was a great showman, an innovative technician, but I'd go for many other drummers, even of the same period, for musicality. Joe Morello has been mentioned; he's one of my all-time favourites, but equally Jo Jones, on brushes, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Louie Bellson... More modern..? Christian Vander, Chad Wackerman, Terry Bozzio... They've taken the heritage and worked it up to another couple of levels. Bozzio with Zappa is amazing. Not saying that BR was bad, by any means, just that it 'talks' differently to me than some here, apparently. Normal, I suppose; we're all different..!
Saw Wackerman with Holdsworth; thought he was dreadful. Never rated Bozzio either. Saw Bellson twice (?) too; good drummer.
  13.
He is viewed with some ambivalence amongst Jazz musicians (as opposed to drummers); a great drummer but not such a rounded musician. His list of 'classic' credits in the Jazz world is minimal and I think he kind of fits in with those 'clinician' types who are unquestionably masters of the instrument they play but their ideas don't move very freely into the music of others (Wooten, Berlin, Manring etc). I think of these kinds of players are atheletes and acrobats rather than players. Joe Morello is a different kettle of fish. Much more 'musical'.
Couldn't disagree more TBH.
  14.
Man this guy imo is just up there with theeee best drummers who have ever lived. Buddy Rich. a short tempered master of rhythm. his drumming is just EPIC. this vid just says it all. his timing is just perfect, his touch is just perfect.when he's slows the tempo and then speeds it up again.. his drumming is nothing short of beautiful imo.
Incorrect 1st sentence. He is far and away the greatest drummer that ever lived. ;-) I saw him live twice, with my dad. The most talented musician I've ever seen by absolute miles, and he was a drummer!
  15.
Yes but what about her singing?
Genius.
  16.
I think she's a little thin and nasal.
Have to agree. A reasonable karaoke singer who happens to be quite fit. She's actually level with Mick Hucknall on my "please turn them off" list. IMO she's made 3 decent records; Work It Out, Crazy In Love and Bootylicious. Other than that, rubbish records sold off the back of questionable lingerie-laced videos. Don't get me started on Kanye. Uniquely talented legend or talentless twat? You decide. ;-)
  17.
Thanks for the info 4000! I've had a fireglo 4000 and an azureglo the former had a through neck and wasn't as nice to play as the others. I read that the fixed necks were fairly uncommon in the Ric bass book. Having said that 4000 basses are pretty scarce full stop! Yep I really like this one, it's beaten up but sounds and plays superbly.
Set neck 4001S basses are more uncommon, simply because of the availability of the normal Deluxe (bound) 4001 through-neck. After mid-72 the 4000 was only made as a set-neck so you had no option. Great basses though, those 4000s. Criminally overlooked and underrated. I'll never forget the first time I plugged mine in. If JJ Burnel had played a Ric, it would have been that one. First time I used it at rehearsal, the band stopped playing because they wondered what on earth the racket was.
  18. Well, I buy ones from '72 or earlier...works for me. Although I'll give you the rods and bridges can still be a pain. Still, most muscle cars won't go round corners. You can't always have everything. I will say though that the 4004 I had was stunningly made, better than either of the Wals I owned and as good as some of my Seis.
  19.
Do what the famous Rick players all did and score a 70s Japanese copy.
NOW EDITED because I can't be arsed : Let's see: Macca - real Ric Chris Squire - real Rics (incl 21 fretter and 8 string) Mike Rutherford - real Rics Roger Glover - real Rics Glenn Hughes - real Ric Joey DeMaio - heavily modified but real Ric Geddy Lee - real Rics Martin Turner - real Ric Lemmy - mostly real Rics (original 4000 with added T/Bird pickup & white black trim one etc etc, all Signature basses ; dubious are the 2nd one (maple fingerboard) and maybe a couple of others that he's used) Paul Gray - real Rics Foxton - first an Ibanez then real Rics which he's completely up front about The Ox - real Rics Roger Waters - real Ric Chris Wolstenholme - real Ric Mani - real Ric Cliff Burton - modified but real Ric Paul Wilson - real Ric Jon Camp - real Ric Rick James - real Ric Bob Hardy - real Ric Pete Trewavas - real Rics Al Cisneros - real Ric Paul D'Amour - real Ric Mike Mesaros - real Ric Andy Lewis - real Rics Peter Hook - FAKE!!!!! (Hondo II) - I'll give you him. And some points for Foxton and Lemmy. ...I won't go on. Sorry, I don't like people making things up, so I thought I'd set the record straight.
  20. I had one of these once, an original AH150. It was my favourite head that I've ever owned. It was basically a 150W version of the head from the original 8x10 combo that both Mark King and Leigh 'Leroy' Gorman used, back in the day (I used one of those once too). Shame about the power amp. Do you know what it is?
  21.
I say lots of things... It's usually best to ignore me....
I know the feeling.
