Very good condition, not much use (although owned for a long time) Overwater bass strap. Length is approx 45.5 inches, 115cm. I'd say it's a short or poss medium strap. £10 plus postage (call it £1.50) to a good home!

Bought off another Basschatter, 2 knurled knobs; I was told they came off a Musicman (Sterling?) but equally at home on a Fender; they sat on my Squier P until I got some Fender knobs which in reality aren't much different and cost 4 times as much! Quite heavy.... £5.00 plus postage. For sale is a cream original Di Marzio P Bass pickup. Bought off another Basschatter. Comes with mounting screws and sponge. I put it in my Korean Squier but it was actually too big and powerful-sounding for what I wanted! Well a broken boiler may have interrupted my impending Limelight build...
I've played one of the AVRI and found the finish poor, and the tone way too middy and clanky, not the smooth articulation I expect from a 60s era P bass!
+1.....
-
Not sure its the same one? The one I played was in No Tom Guitars in Denmark Street and was up for £5995! Played superb! I get where people are saying it's hard to compare custom shop to a Limelight, but what else is on off along the same lines? I'd love to own a custom shop bass, but I'd want to feel really involved with it for the price ie; going in to the shop helping choose my woods etc etc. To pay that much and do the order via email or phone just seems a bit of a cop out in a way! What are people's experiences of the AVRI P's?
I played an AVRI P a few months back and didn't like it. I played a couple of '70s Ps alongside it and for me it didn't come close; in fact again I preferred my bass and a Squier CV60s I played. I'm sure they'll all be different though, and YMMV; depends on your preferences.

I'll add that I've played a few Fender Custom Shop instruments but haven't been bowled over by any in terms of playability and tone, although they've looked great. Quite honestly (and I realise this may sound ridiculous), I prefer the sound, if not the build quality, of my Korean Squier, which is one of the things that worries me about buying another F-type instrument sight unseen.. Now if I could just snaffle that refin-d genuine '65 P in the Gallery I'd be a happy man.....
Not anymore they won't. If you want it with Fender on the headstock, I think you have to do your own now..
Really? That's big news to me, and I was very close to ordering one (emails exchanged & everything!).....
Cheers! It's certainly got it goin' on.
It certainly has!
My Sea Foam Green one, on page 1, was specced as light relic.
That's also lovely....
Sorry, can't help but I prefer maple boards as well. But the rosewood boarded jazz neck on my 63 is superb. Just have a chat with Mark and tell him what you are after, you are unlikely to be disappointed. Good luck, Karl.
I like both to be honest, but my Squier is rosewood and I do have a thing for those 70s maples. I've been in touch with Mark, just want to make sure I'm certain before I put any money down.

Ah, so sad to see this doing the rounds again. It's a lovely, lovely bass which I owned for some time. I sold it to buy a Sei fretless which unfortunately someone beat me to. If someone wants incredible playability with unique looks and really light weight (I would have said it's under 8lbs), it's all here. It sounds pretty good too. Kind of wish I had the funds, but unfortunately I don't.
As the pictures show, this is a fantastically beautiful instrument, made for me last year. I have loved playing it, but my fretless tastes have taken a different turn (Firecreek fretless, possibly THE best fretless bass), and I can't really justify keeping this. I am considering having it fretted, so I'll live if it doesn't sell. Olivewood top over mahogany core and wenge back. Maple and wenge neck with wenge headstock facing and ebony fingerboard. Humbucker in the P position with coil tap on the vol knob, single coil in the J position, both with olive covers, passive with vol, vol, tone, and wooden bridge. The neck is 43mm wide, with a Precision feel to the depth. It plays beautifully, and is in immaculate condition. I can't let it go for less than £400 plus postage, although I'm happy to meet up somewhere within reason (I'm in Sth Cumbria, near Barrow) Sorry the pictures are sideways (technologically challenged)
Cool! What does it weigh?

Cheers for that. Yes, I may do. It was specifically the maple fingerboards I was interested in.
I seem to be getting closer and closer to ordering one of these (although I have seen something else that has created a slight stumbling block). A question for those with maple-necked Limelight P basses who have experience of genuine '70s (particularly early '70s) Ps; how convincing is the feel and ageing of the neck? All the rosewood board basses look fab (particularly with my preferred clay-type dots), but I can't quite tell how convincing the maples are from the pics.
Anyone?
Sort of thought an Adam Clayton would be based on his original Precision with Jazz neck bass with the chunk of scratchplate missing.
Ditto. Was quite looking forward to that.
Having been through the replacing bridges thing, a hi-mass bridge - especially the Badass - seems to "tighten" up the sound, make the lows and highs more focused, and slightly scoop the mids. That`s why personally I don`t like them on Precisions, they seem to reduce the Precisions main strengths.
I would tend to agree that this is my experience too, one of the reasons I didn't go for a Nate Mendel in the end....although obviously that could change.
-
...I know it makes some...but would changing the (reasonably chunky) bridge on my Squier P Special make much difference - if I replaced it with, say, a Badass or Gotoh?
Many, many years ago I had a 70-ish (?) m/n P Bass with the old threaded saddles (when did they stop doing them?). I had some trouble with sideways string movement so had Peter Cook (not the Dudley Moore one) change it for a Schaller - I think he binned the original. Worst thing I could have done. Lost half its tone in one fell swoop. I then went on to sell the bass for approx £180. Even though it was about 1982, that still hurts. I sold it to buy a Westone Quantum, which made sense at the time. (Actually, that was a really good little bass). Generally speaking I don't believe in heavy duty bridges, although it depends on the instrument. It's the old horses for courses thing though. I know Scott Thunes tried a Badass on his old P Bass ('63?) and took it straight off, saying it was a piece of junk, but obviously others swear by them.
If you like the Korean Squier take it to a luthier to get the truss rod sorted. Those MIKs have great necks and once the electrics are sorted are basses that punch well above their price-tags. I had one, foolishly sold it, so tracked another one down. Great players imo. That said, the Nate fits the bill re your neck-spec, and I`m yet to read anything bad about them, could be worth a try - and there`s one on Gumtree at present.
I've just spent some time playing my Squier and quite honestly it's one of my favourite basses that I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a lot of high end and boutique stuff. It's was funny the first time I put my strings on, set it up and plugged it in; I thought "blimey, that's the sound I've spent years trying to get out of really expensive basses!". Not bad for £120..... Still think I'm going to buy something else as well though...
