1.
M&S are a very very good live act, in fact one of the best I've seen. There's an energy and, well honesty, about them that is really unique. I don't like either of their albums because, having seen them live and having heard the early sessions they did for the BBC, the albums are to my ear overproduced and a little flat. They certainly don't come close to the band live. Last night I think they had outstanding energy but they didn't seem as on form as they did when I first saw them, perhaps due to recent events. I also don't think their 'flat 4' formation on stage work for TV. But all that aside, they were still one of the best acts I saw at Glasto this year. I'm sure many on here are jealous, and rightly so, I'd love to be in that band. I guess some of the jealousy is around the idea that what M&S have done has relied to a great part on being in the right place at the right time, a lot of BBC/luvvy-type fanboyism, and the lack of anything else that good in that bracket (Bellowhead included). But they do write a good tune, albeit a formulaic one, and they do play them well. Also their 'Coldplay for the new acoustic generation' vibe is very inclusive, and they've certainly revived interest among young players in acoustic instruments (including DB). I'm a massive Stones fan, but having seen their set Saturday, I know which of the two i'd have wanted to see live this weekend.
+1 to most of this (and I'm not particularly a fan BTW). The whole "I don't like them so they're sh*te" - whoever it's about - is all a bit 6th form IMO.
  2. No problem! I was beginning to think I was losing the plot (well I probably am, but that's another story...).
  3.
No - as stated; it comes with both (and both are EB original)
Sorry, read it twice and must have missed it both times. Thanks for the reply.
  4. No probs mate. It was a lovely bass, only sold to fund something I'd been after for 17 years.
  5. Am I correct in assuming the Ray comes with the black guard, not the t/s one in the last picture? Or do my eyes deceive me?
  6.
Just me and you by the sounds of things, they will have to put us on a desert island where you can try and get me to start liking these Ricky basses
If it helps I'm kind of gassing for a Musicman at the moment. Although I've used them before I've never owned one. I'd have to find the right one though due to my various physical issues.
  7.
I just watched the clip and it reminded me of why I dont like Flea on a Jazz live either, it always leaves me thinking how much bigger yet just as defined on the slap/treble notes it would be.
+1. I love that if you have a different opinion there's obviously something wrong with you.
  8.
not so, I'm fully aware most discerning players have to play lots of them before finding one worth sticking with.
Which wasn't my point, as usual.
  9. I had one for a few years and thought it was great bass. In many ways I wish I hadn't got rid of it. I sold it to a friend who gets an absolutely tremendous sound out of it, one of the best I've ever heard from anyone. The neck was fabulous too. It was actually quite a bit better than my 2nd Dolphin Pro 1 through-neck ('96), although probably not quite as good as my first ('91). No shame in that as the '91 was one of the nicest basses I've ever owned or played (although it was a bit on the heavy side).
  10. What's the playing got to do with the bass sound? And how do you know what I can play like? FWIW anyone else is perfectly entitled to disagree with me and enjoy the bass sound. That's what opinions are for. I just hate it. My opinion.
  11.
The sound is right for the genre
No, Bernard's sound is right for Chic and this isn't his sound. In fact i'm about to turn over as he's just started destroying Good Times. Somebody buy the man some flats!
  12.
I'm not clever enough or experienced enough to know so could you explain further what's wrong with it? Too toppy? Too middly? Just sh*t? What? Genuine question not trying to be difficult
I can't stand what I class as the modern Jazz bass sound. I simply don't find it musical. It sounds to like somebody hitting railway tracks with a hammer at a distance of a kilometre or so away and in this context I find it really intrusive. Give me Bernard's sound anytime.
  13.
Strangely, I feel the same about Jazz basses, which I find dreadful to play. But each to their own.
Ditto. For me, the world's most horrible instrument.
  14.
Lemmy played plenty of copies, one was up for sale recently.
He also played lots of real ones, which you always seem to conveniently forget.
  15.
I watched the set streamed live so finished watching it just now. How the hell does het that tone? Looked like GK amps in the background.
I'd like to know how he got it so that I could avoid ever duplicating it.
  16.
The jazz isn't cutting it for me
Big +1. I hate that modern Jazz sound anyway, but in this context its even worse. Bernard is one of my favourite players and this just isn't even close in tone or feel. Very disappointing.
  17. I saw the Who twice with the Ox, thankfully, and to be honest I really have no interest in seeing them without him. Pino is a great player, but watching the Who with Pino is IMO rather like watching the Jimi Hendrix Experience featuring Eric Clapton.
  18. That is absolutely stunning.
  19. I could, if I had the readies.....

    Warwick basses
True man! they are the best Warwicks IMO, i own a 1990 Stage I, 23 year's old and still looks and sounds great! nothing beats the tone and feel of it! i also own a thumb bolt-on and its a great bass, but the Stage I's have an edge over most of the warwicks! Here's a few clip's of her where you can hear the versatile tone! Melodic improvisation: Funk bass and solo
Nice! What gauge strings are you using there? My '91 Dolphin Pro I was fab, if a bit heavy. Way better than the '96 I had. As was the Pro II, which my mate now has; that's a great bass. My '91 Streamer was nice too (px'd that to get the first Dolphin).
  21. Stunning this Kev. Would probably have been a viable trade for my 4004, which is probably not what you wanted to hear.

    Withdrawn

Loads of love here, just a matter of prioritising cash, unfortunately. I'd also need a leg rest as I play sat down these days, although I have no idea how much of an issue that would be. Given it's probably over 20 years since I played one, how do these compare to a Status Streamline?
