  1. Well our rehearsal studio and the recording studio where we’re doing our album are closing, so it’s a moot point!
  2. Ironically the only amp that’s ever happened to me with was my first Trace head. My Tech 21 heads have never done it. I’ve never played that loud either.
  3. Both. However as a solo writer, I’m a mediocre singer and average guitarist, a very poor keys player and don’t really play drums, and I don’t have access to (or can’t afford) musicians of sufficient calibre, so technology is - potentially at least - my friend. And I’d sooner use drum programs than drummers any day of the week. 😉 😂 Seriously though, I think anything that potentially makes your recording sound better is fair game. If I can’t play a keyboard or drum part but I can programme it in (or get someone else to) I have absolutely no problem with that. Of course YMMV. I saw TD I think in the 90s and they were very different, much poppier, but the recent stuff I’ve heard sounds great, IMO.
  4. “Don’t Stop” was for John, IIRC.
  5. I guess the thing is, I’m a songwriter, so for me anything that helps the process along is good. Recent TD is a return to form, IMO. worth a listen.
  6. If I’m making a record I’d sooner everything be how I want to hear it. Also, what happens if you haven’t got access to technically amazing musicians and singers but you have the ideas for great records? Do you just not bother making the records? What about the sequencing in a band like Tangerine Dream? I’d also say a great many “musicians” that I’ve known haven’t got anything much in the way of talent. I grew up around (much older) jazz musicians. Most of them could read flysh*t, but most of them also couldn’t write a piece of music to save their life. So, talented in one way maybe, but not in another.
  7. I actually don’t give a damn how music is made. It’s all about the end result for me. A creative person (in any area, not just in music) uses whatever tools are available to them in order to realise their vision.
  8. I’d say you should try it both ways and see what you think. 😉
  9. I had a BDDI and could never get the sound I wanted (Squire, Glover, Camp, Hughes Etc). I replaced it with a VT Bass DI which is far better for what I want. I liked it so much I bought 2 x VT500 heads to match. I’d like to try a para driver though.
  10. I took it as a given that lots of stuff would fall outside this thread but this was specifically for singers people liked.
  11. I take it that wasn’t a US one as they’re £2k new.
  12. I have back issues and I think on consideration I’m probably better with 2 gig bags, one each side.
  13. If so, how do they compare with the full sized version?
  14. Well I could’ve put a hundred songs, but didn’t want to get carried away. 😉 Banks of the Nile really kills me.
  15. Have to respectfully disagree. CD is the melancholy song for me, and much, much prefer the M&Ps version. In fact I don’t really like the JP version, if I’m honest.
  16. I know Sandy Denny has already been mentioned, but just putting these out there. Love these performances:
  17. Huge +1. I’m much more of a fan of great harmony vocals than ‘great’ solo singers, for the most part, and where I do love solo singers I tend to prefer those who simply sing a melody well (people like Sandy Denny, Karen Carpenter), rather than vocal gymnasts or belters. Simon and Garfunkel have already been mentioned (early favourites), But I don’t think either of these have:
  18. I listen to it. If I don’t like it, I’ll usually give it another go, maybe a few more goes. Whilst I can’t say there isn’t any subconscious bias (who can?), I always try to like it, try to be open-minded. Why wouldn’t you? Sometimes I try too hard, like with a couple of well-known artists where it took me years to finally admit to myself that I really didn’t like them much.
  19. Well it’s easy to seem ok for a few minutes.......😉 My two favourite male singers:
