  1. CS has said that he bought a Rickenbacker because Entwistle was using one at the time and he loved his sound.
  2. Really, really like the look of that first Status.
  3. Ok, no idea where the quote went and it won’t seem to let me edit it!🙄
  4. Yes, a pet hate of mine. It’s one reason why I insist on keeping our cds down to no more than 9 tracks. I treat them like I would vinyl. My other pet hate is “extended” cds, where they take an album and stick some “rare outtakes” or live versions on the end. Just gimme the album please. It’s not just albums I’m familiar with either. When I first bought/ heard the cd of Fotheringay by Fotheringay (which has become of my favourite albums), I remember thinking that the last two tracks didn’t seem to fit in the running order; it was quite obvious it should have finished with Banks of the Nile. When I checked what the original album track listing was, lo and behold the 2 tracks were add-ons and it had indeed originally finished with Banks of the Nile.
  5. Well somewhat ironically, my supposedly “spongey” yet more or less non-moving neck has some flame in it too. But certainly in my experience, flame laminates have been a common feature in the more unstable necks I’ve had. Whether that’s down to the flame, who knows?
  6. No, that’s cool, it’s your project!
  7. Bear in mind that (as stated earlier) I have a bass with a supposedly spongey neck that hardly ever moves. Whereas I’ve had much stiffer necks that move all over the place. That’s what drove Entwistle away from his Alembics. Flame maple laminates do seem to be a common factor. All the Seis that moved had flamed necks, and the ones that didn’t, didn’t.
  8. Er, not sure what this means! Was just thinking that if you were putting a real skunk stripe in, that would be a ridiculous amount of work.
  9. My favourite Genesis era is probably TotT to ATTWT. I prefer the Seconds Out era band doing the PG stuff too. As mentioned elsewhere I’m not the biggest fan of the above track though; it’s ok, but doesn’t really light my touch paper. I recently found out it was Inspired by one of my favourite books from my teens, Phoenix in Obsidian by Michael Moorcock. Rather lacks the claustrophobic, doom-laden air though. 😉
  10. Still one of the nicest “Rics” I’ve ever seen, real or otherwise.
  11. At one time In my 30s I had dreadful tinnitus in my left ear. A couple of years later I went to a chiropractor for my back problems and he adjusted my neck. Tinnitus gone, in an instant. It comes back every now and again but it seems to relate to some sort of nerve entrapment.
  12. Whereas I, after trying valiantly time and time again to get into GD, find the exact opposite. 😉
  13. I heard WYWH first. It’s my joint favourite album, along with Moonmadness by Camel. I was really disappointed when I heard Dark Side, I found it a real let down after WYWH.
  14. Or maybe I just much prefer it. 🙄
  15. Yes, sadly. And it still could this year as I have other family members who aren’t out of the woods yet. Anyway, back to the thread...l
  16. Given the amount of work to be done I don’t think you should have worried too much about hidden horrors. You’d have been replacing most of the stuff that could have gone wrong anyway. You're replacing the fingerboard and frets and the rods are easily replaced, even without taking the board off. Are you faking the skunk stripe?
  17. I’m not sure that’s true. Lem said he got the gig when the previous bassist didn’t turn up for a gig and his Rick was in the van so Lem used it, but Lem then proceeded to use his Hopf for quite a while (including the recording of Doremi) prior to him using the Rick shown above, so it’s not a given that it was the same Rick, although it’s possible. I guess we’ll probably never know for sure.
  18. So it was you! I was looking at that!☹️ Ah well, you snooze, you lose.😁 To be honest I would’ve thought it would have been a much easier job converting a ‘70s 4001. Given you’re taking the fingerboard off, you could have changed the rods.
  19. Cheers Dave. To be honest, I can’t really make sense of it at the moment. FWIW, last year was even worse, so there is that.
  20. Nah, WYWH is miles better than DSOTM. 😁
  21. Came home from my dad’s funeral yesterday to the news about Eddie (Was a huge VH fan when I was younger). What a day.
  22. Of all the basses I’ve had the ones that have moved most have been 3 of my Seis. All were laminates and the one that moved most had carbon fibre rods too. I had a Status with a twisted carbon fibre neck once. My Rics, however, once set, have hardly moved at all. My favourite-sounding bass, my Feb ‘72 4001, has a one piece neck, which was once described by John Diggins as “spongey”, and yet it sounds wonderful IMO. I think both sound and stability depend on the individual instrument.
  23. That’s weird, I love Going For The One but I think it has the worst production of all the ‘70s albums. Abso frickin’ lutely. Back of the net. 😂
