1. Hello All, Sorry if this sounds like a daft question but I have been searching for a new pick guard for my Geddy Lee Ltd Edition jazz. There seem to be quite a few different types of Jazz pick guard available, including some Geddy lee specific ones on some American sites. Is there anything to stop me fitting a standard jazz pick guard allowing me access to the truss rod adjustment at the same time? Any and all advice gratefully received and appreciated, Cheers, Mark.
2. Well said Alan, I wonder whether it will be one of those recordings that gets overlooked and is revered many years later. Only time will tell I guess.
3.
He is the master of using chorus.
Surely that is Jeff Berlin.
4. Thanks to you all for the suggestions. Cheers, Mark.
5. Think I might be a bit mad but this Cd is amazing. It does take some listening to,but i think that might be the point. I am listening through headphones and I think this helps the music have a little more impact. It does have hints of Herbie Hancock and 70's funk mixed with stuff which sounds like it's been produced on another planet. Overall summary, I like it very much. I'll get my coat then.....
6. Thanks for posting Silddx, great stuff. I love the band, the tune and the drumming. The drum sound is just my bag as well. I think Ronald may well be destined for greatness. I don't suppose you know who the other musicians are? I would like to delve into this a bit further. Cheers, Mark.
7. Just checking Thundercat's CD out. Sounds quite interesting to my ears. There are some video clips knocking about of him playing an MTD 6 string bass, he is indeed very talented. Whether he is the future of bass I am not so sure. He does however come from a family of monster musicians, his brother being Ronald Bruner Jr, one of the hottest new young jazz/fusion drummers to emerge in recent years. Ronald also has a somewhat unconventional playing style...maybe it just runs in the family.
8. Ibanez 5 strings are nicely put together but usually have narrow string spacing in this case 16.5 mm I think. This model has similar Bart pickups to the Laklands mentioned earlier in the thread. Good luck with your choice.
9. Same for me,although I like both lineups with and without. Great players, interesting music.
10. Not wanting to cast a shadow on Lakland as I have owned a few of them, but never found the Bart MK pickups to my liking to be honest. Good shout though, they do the job for a great many people and are built to last. Cheers, Mark.
11. Hello All, Would someone please recommend me a newish CD to check out. My taste is generally jazz, funk more than rock although I am open minded. Players I like which may help, Gary Willis,Rich Brown, Julian Crampton and all the Incognito bassists, Matt Garrison, all the famous funk players like Nate Watts; Jaco, Lee Sklar, Ed Poole etc. I am grateful for any pointers or suggestions. Cheers, Mark.
12.
Thanks M-N-Y, it is a cracking bass, and in brand new condition too! They are seriously good instruments and will stand up against pretty much anything IMHO. ChristopherGilbert, if you are interested in my bass I could consider going down a bit if you could come up a bit......
No problems TRB you're welcome. Good luck with the sale....is indeed a bargain for someone.
13. Probably a little more than your budget but these are monster basses build and tone wise. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/162608-fs-yamaha-trb-1005-trans-dark-red/
14. Nice bass Stephen, Good luck with the sale. A great bass for a bargain price. Cheers, Mark.
15. Promenade Music in Morecambe are excellent. They have a wide range of strings in stock, including a few different brands of flats. The shop is run by musicians and the service is great. The prices are competitive and they are always keen to do a deal for multiple purchases. Give them a try, ask for Gary 01524 410202. Thoroughly good people.
16.
Colonel Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit.
Good choice...very interesting band. I have their post Col Bruce cd's which are also good.
17. Neil Cowley Trio. Stumbled across them recently and I'm glad I did. They are stupendous.
18. No cash price at the moment, thanks.
19. Thanks everyone for your answers. I think I'm getting the picture. Cheers, Mark.
20. Hi All, I wondered if any of you had any experience of this app for bass. There seem to be a few different connectors and programmes/apps available. Anyone have any recommendations please? Many thanks, Mark.
21. Open to other trades like G and L Tributes, Skylines etc etc. Let me know what you've got. Thanks.
22. Hi, Just a thought but would you not consider one of these? It seems to tick a lot of the boxes that you require and having owned one I can say they play and sound amazingly.Lovely basses. 23. Hi, I suggest you get a cheap but decent gig bag, some sort of cardboard box (someone suggested a bicycle box on a previous thread) and plenty of bubble wrap and 'stuffing'. I have posted several basses recently using this method, including sending one to Europe, with no problems. I would also suggest you pay for insurance with whatever carrier you use, just in case. All the best and good luck, Mark.
24. Homer, How's it going? Hope you remember me as markybass from a previous life. I did give up playing bass for a short while but I'm pleased to say I have a new bass and I'm boring the family to death (again). You can try the BB424,425, and 1024 and maybe even 2024/2025 at Promenade Music in Morecambe. They certainly have the 424,425,1024 in as I saw them a few days ago. The 1024 they have in is truly awesome, one of the nicest basses I have ever played. Plus Gary who runs the bass dept is one of the nicest guys around;prices are dead keen to 424 is sub £400. All the best, Mark.
25. Hi Lee, As far as jazz goes, or what purports to be classified as such, this is interesting music. It struck me on first listen that this was a bit out of the ordinary. All the musicians are amazing particularly the drummer who really drives the band, and the combination of the trio plus the strings works really well. I am looking forward to hearing the whole album in late January when it comes out. Cheers, Mark.
