Lovely basses Dougal. There are some notable players using them like John Pena, Tetsuo Sakurai, Vail Johnson, Chuck Rainey etc. I haven't played one but they sound fantastic. If you get one I'm sure it won't disappoint! Best, Mark.

Anything to do with Bill Laswell and Buckethead? Fairly sure I've heard them at some point. Quite heavy stuff I seem to remember. Having listened to your example it sounds like Brain on drums; great snare sound.

Good stuff, thanks! I really love Joni Mitchell, she produces consistently great work. Is LK playing a BC Rich Eagle? It looks like a nice bass.

Thanks for the positive feedback Garry. Stumbled across another piece of magic by a bassist called Gavin W Pearce. I think this was the only Incognito track he played on. Monster groove, IMHO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRaNw9ku9q0

Yeah Visog, +1 on those two albums for sure. I am sure I saw him playing a BC Rich on a live performance from the early 80's. As for following Jaco I feel he did a good job in the circumstances and put his own stamp on things, despite the obvious pressures of following one the of the greats.

I think he has moved more into production these days although he did play with Robbie Robertson and still wheels his trusty Lakland out every now and then. Funnily enough he didn't tour with the Wayne Shorter Atlantis band; bass duties were taken up by a young Gary Willis playing fretted and fretless basses.

Please check out this piece of music. One of my all time faves. Great bass playing by Larry Klein, along with stellar guitar playing from Michael Landau and lovely orchestration. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHRXb9lN1kY

Thanks Pete, Apparently 'Nard' was Bernard Wright's first solo recording at age 16!! I am going to try and track down a copy. Cheers, Mark.

Any Larry Klein fans in the house? I always felt his playing was overlooked having followed Jaco into Joni Mitchell's band. I think he is a very intelligent and highly skilled player who deserves more credit. His playing on the track 'Two Grey rooms' is beautiful and his contribution to the Wayne Shorter album 'Atlantis' is similarly impressive. He never really gets mentioned so I thought it might be nice if we could hear from some supporters or indeed detractors. Thanks.

This is great playing, very groovy. Fans of this style might like to check out Don Blackman's CD, Blackman featuring Barry Johnson on bass. Amazing!!!! I had never heard of Don Blackman or Barry Johnson until I read an interview by Yolanda Charles who recommended the CD. I managed to pick up the CD from Amazon for about a fiver and it's the best fiver I will ever spend I'm sure. The track featured is apparently an underground cult classic. Hope you enjoy it! Francis is excellent. I must admit my favourite Incognito bassist is Julian Crampton. I saw JC live in a small venue in Kendal this time last year and he was ridiculous. This track N.O.T sounds great though. Anyone know if he plays his TRB basses live or is he using jazz basses?

Reduced price to £200 or trade for a fretted Squier Jazz bass (Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified). This bass really is mint and more than £200 less than a new one. I have posted a link to a similar bass.I will try to post some photos of my own bass later in the week. Thanks for looking. I am offering for sale or trade my virtually brand new Yamaha BB 615 in Natural finish. It is a lovely bass but I really prefer four string basses of the jazz type and I will happily accept offers of trades for suitable four string instruments. The Yamaha is in excellent condition and plays really well.It may benefit from some new strings and a slight truss rod tweak but these are only minor things.I will include a Warwick Rockbag in the price.I would prefer collection in person by any interested party, but will post if absolutely necessary. The bass would make an excellent main or spare bass and has quite a wide range of usable tones. Please contact me for any extra info. I am based in Wigan should anyone wish to view or travel to offer a trade. I will try and post some pics later. Asking price £275 ono.
As he's playing a Status Series II I put the word out on Statii.com and consensus seems to think it is Wolfgang Schmid. http://www.wolfgangschmid.com/biography_fr.html
I would have to agree,he's a rather good bass player. The cd he did with drummer Marco Minneman a few years back was quite interesting.

I would like to add some well deserved feedback for NoirBass (Chris). I have just completed a very pleasant transaction with Chris. He proved to be a thoroughly decent guy who was a joy to deal with.I would heartily recommend him to any Basschatters as an honest and trustworthy person.

I have to agree Ed Poole is amazingly talented and a lovely modest bloke to boot.He has probably got the best fretless Fender Jazz I have ever seen, heard or played, INCREDIBLE. +1 for Simon Goulding,he is an incredible player, Laurence Cottle- fantastic!! I'll throw in a few others in addition to the stellar players already mentioned, Ewan Vernal ex Deacon Blue, Martin Mcaloon of Prefab Sprout, really creative catchy basslines,Rufus Philpot a superb player, British born but based in the States now. Alan Thompson who played fretless bass with John Martyn for a number of years, along with the great upright player Danny Thompson. Just a few worthy of consideration IMHO. Thanks, Mark.
Hi Mark, well if you do decide to sell consider me interested. Is is sunburst? if so V. interested. Ta, Chris
Hello Chris, The bass is a 3 tone sunburst model with brown shell pick guard. I am not averse to selling but a trade would be easier for me. Will be in touch if I decide to sell and you can certainly have first refusal! thanks Chris, Mark.
I have one of these, really great bass and the neck feels awesome, good luck with the sale
Thanks BB, It's a great bass to be honest. Played a Yamaha recently and thought it offered more in the way of tonal variation for the sound I'm after. Sorry Noir, At this stage just looking for a trade. I haven't done any pics but can do if necessary. I may look to sell the bass if I can't find something suitable. Thanks for your interest! Cheers, Mark.

Matt Garrison - how are his basses set up ?.
M-N-Y replied to 6stringbassist's topic in Bass Guitars
My friend played Matt's bass when he toured the UK with Gary Husband a couple of years back.He said the action was incredibly low, which probably explains why he can play so fluently.Being a friend of Gary Willis,Matt copied the idea of the Willis ramp and incorporated that into his own bass,to facilitate his finger thumb technique. As for his tuning it's mainly E-C as far as I am aware although he does use a hipshot for lower tunings as well.
