1. There is that. Many of us here know there is something calling from the darkness. At least he did not leave them without means, just without role-model.
2.
Afraid that's out of my territory so I can only wish you well in the search. Get yourself to Bass Direct or the Gallery. Doubt there's much outwith your budget so play them all. Take your time deciding and enjoy the experience. Looking forward to seeing your NBD.
Couldn't agree more. Have you looked at amps and effects? If you need to unload your bankaccount there are many fine opportunities to do so!
3. He should have pulled that trigger before starting a family, what a waste of ones and zeroes. Sorry if this offends anyone but when you have a family you have bigger responsibilities, that's my opinion.
4. I am currently using the Engl 1030 rackhead. I've only had it a couple of months but I'm very VERY impressed so far. Defined sound, effective eq from thumpy via warm to aggressive. All features I need and then some.
5. The USA coke uses cornsyrup instead of sugar, there's a clear difference. That is all I got.
6. Peavey 410 tvx? Cab! I got it as an in between cab when I sold the awful and mushy ampeg 410, needed cash to order the 412 basstown I still use today. That peavey is massive and sounds tenfold it's price! I may not have switched to 12inchers had I played the peavey before. Having said that, the basstown 412. That's not going anywhere soon. Musicman SR5. Got a good deal secondhand when they were still cheaper. Nails the sound I was looking for.
7. My favorite music genre, thrash metal, seems to be on a comeback. Oldies like Anthrax, Exodus, Testament and Kreator are touring like mad, but newer bands like Gama Bomb and Insanity Alert are terrific!
8. Have a look at swirl dipping, fun stuff! Wrapping the body is probably the most effective way though, like a car wrap but for a bass body. There a many suppliers out there, someone is bound to have a decent MoP.
9. Gear4music and bax have both been good when I used them. We're just curious that's all 😉
10. Except for the lemon oil. Danish oil sure, gunstock oil better, Dr Duck's. Axwax is cool. No lemon oil on unlaquered maple please, it can leave unsightly stains.
11. Why wait another two weeks? You're bothered enough by it already it seems. ENT or audiologist appointment asap, but keep your md in the loop. Tinnitus won't kill you and with calmness and practice it's usually manageable. The stress relief course is good advice! With all of those wonderful events coming up times will be busy enough, so make sure you enjoy them. See if there is an organisation or platform for tinnitus patients near you and take everything you learn with a pinch of salt but they might have the most useful advice.
12. Very nice bass, certainly for the price! Love mine, pick it up several times a day for a quick noodle.
13.
Just a warning to those thinking of buying from bax music think carefully,I brought a guitar from them that turned out to be damaged, when I emailed them their customer service it is non existant and they don't answer the phone when you ring them.So if you receive anything that is not to your liking you will not get you're money back.
I have dealt with them several times and any customer service required was always on point. Most recently an Engl rackhead 1030 that I received in unopened original packaging that had a noisy hum in it. They got me a new one (I checked the product number) from Engl and kept me informed most steps of the process, without any cost to me whatsoever. Will use again.
14. Very MTD-ish, I like it!
15. Try DR strings DDT? I love them but I play heavies.
16. Anything Donald Fagen really, most boring, lifeless tunes, bereft of any energy or joy.
17.
If you value mids, avoid Eden and SWR.
Absolutely wrong. Have been using SWR workingpro700 and 750x for the past 5 years with my Sr5 exclusively and the miss are strong and focused. Both have ample controls to boost or cut the the frequencies you might want thanks to their parametric pots. Really weird you should write something like this as the opposite is true.
18.
Anthony Jackson, James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius, Pino Palladino. They all played passive instruments, and their tone is amazing so any argument for better tone goes out the window. Different tone, sure. Think Marcus Miller for that, but that's not what I'm going for. I just don't like fiddling while I'm playing. If I need to change the tone, I change what I'm doing with my hands. And you only need it to happen once when a battery fails on stage to know that relying on a £3 battery as a crucial chain in your signal path is not cool.
Personal preference again. What about different styles of music? What about the £3 patch cable on your pedalboard or kettle lead? The wire from the pickup to the Jack? There are so many cheap parts in a signal chain it's amazing anything works :-D Some will want to make adjustments without walking back to their amp. Some will find passive tone controls do the job. There is no argument that can't be turned over the other way. Personal preference. 👍
19. Pedals are not generally counter-intuitive are they. Cable comes out of your bass in the right hand side (adjust for lefties as needed), then enters pedalboard at right side so you are not standing on your cable. Pedals run right to left where the cable runs off stage to amp or DI, leaving the place where you stand uncluttered.
20.
We probably all have one or two. An album where you know every word, bass note, guitar / keyboard part and drum beat so intimately that you can play the whole album in your head, in the correct track order. Mine it seems are Hemispheres by Rush and Deja Vu by CSN&Y Be interested to hear what others' are.
Not even my own 😞
