2.
What? I love AC/DC but they will never be as good as Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler is a genius.
Still, AC/DC gets sold out venues year after year. Millions of people thoroughly enjoy their straight-forward rock. DS sell tickets good too, but tour much less, so are a more rare commodity. I'm not a fan of either band, but I think I could stay awake through an AC/DC show as opposed to a Dire Straights one, I'd be waiting for the elevator to arrive at the top floor.
3. Most of you guys really
4. I would count the Cramps' bassVI. Just becuzzz.
5. For a proper cleaning I add a few drops of Dr.Duck's Axwax. Works great on body, hardware, strings, ebony or rosewood fingerboard, in fact everything except the stingray neck (gunstock oil/wax).
6. The neck pickup near the gibson mudbucker spot?
7. I wouldn't say it is a common sight, but it happens
8. This band apparently. I can't get into though, either style. https://youtu.be/nRAyImFXW_Y
9.
... and a paintbrush to get into the fiddly bits.
I have a shaving brush for this. Hardly ever use it thanks to the towel getting nearly everywhere.
10. A soft lint free microfiber towel works well for me
11. Denon Heos and Sonos playbar get good reviews. I believe most brands carry them nowadays. I recommend one that doesn't need a separate subwoofer per sé
12. Labeling is instrumental (hah) in finding more music like the music you just heard that you liked. Also "Be calmly aware that this may periodically expand, contract or combust" is my new favorite catchphrase.
13. I have never since I decided at 14 that I was going to play bass wanted a P bass or sound, even though my first bass was a cheapo P clone. Get a secondhand Harley Benton-ish precision and stow it in a closet, under a bed, in a crawlspace or whatever, and move on. Life's too short
14. Now that that's over, bring a 3-tone burst 70s P next rehearsal.
15. More traditional? Bring an upright. In thrash metal anything is used that tickles your fancy, from lethal spikey b.c. rich to firewood fenders, steinberger paddles to rics.
16. There is that. Many of us here know there is something calling from the darkness. At least he did not leave them without means, just without role-model.
17. One of each. Maybe...
18.
Afraid that's out of my territory so I can only wish you well in the search. Get yourself to Bass Direct or the Gallery. Doubt there's much outwith your budget so play them all. Take your time deciding and enjoy the experience. Looking forward to seeing your NBD.
Couldn't agree more. Have you looked at amps and effects? If you need to unload your bankaccount there are many fine opportunities to do so!
19. He should have pulled that trigger before starting a family, what a waste of ones and zeroes. Sorry if this offends anyone but when you have a family you have bigger responsibilities, that's my opinion.
20. I am currently using the Engl 1030 rackhead. I've only had it a couple of months but I'm very VERY impressed so far. Defined sound, effective eq from thumpy via warm to aggressive. All features I need and then some.
21. The USA coke uses cornsyrup instead of sugar, there's a clear difference. That is all I got.
22. Peavey 410 tvx? Cab! I got it as an in between cab when I sold the awful and mushy ampeg 410, needed cash to order the 412 basstown I still use today. That peavey is massive and sounds tenfold it's price! I may not have switched to 12inchers had I played the peavey before. Having said that, the basstown 412. That's not going anywhere soon. Musicman SR5. Got a good deal secondhand when they were still cheaper. Nails the sound I was looking for.
23. My favorite music genre, thrash metal, seems to be on a comeback. Oldies like Anthrax, Exodus, Testament and Kreator are touring like mad, but newer bands like Gama Bomb and Insanity Alert are terrific!
24. Have a look at swirl dipping, fun stuff! Wrapping the body is probably the most effective way though, like a car wrap but for a bass body. There a many suppliers out there, someone is bound to have a decent MoP.
25. I bet it has a beefy tone!
