1. Latest incarnation, I took the Pearl OD-05 off. It's lovely, creamy overdrive is wonderfull, just not very thrash-metal. MXR m82 punches right through though! It's awesome! Very tweakable to taste and situation.
2. I use a strip of the sticky velcro that keeps the underside stuck to the pedalboard.
3. Hook up the alarm to your bass amp.
4. Wipe down, then fast fret, and wipe again. I use a bit of old t-shirt to wipe the neck and body down. This ritual is performed after every gig and practice. Thanks to this upkeep I change my strings about once a year, and I like them to sound fresh! Not brand spanking new but alive and singing.
5. There's a section on ze german bassforum bassic.ch that has many designs: http://bassic.spreadshirt.net
6. But when you are playing your second open string your fretting hand has nothing better to do than muting the previous string before moving to the next note? Or use an idle finger on your picking hand, let it rest on the string you need to mute and play the note you want with your pick/index finger/what have you.
7. After days of checking out utoob reviews I ordered a MXR m82 aswell. The source audio sounblox sounded good too but sports way more options than I'd consider usefull. Chunk's Agent 00funk seems good too. Searching for as many soundclips as possible and listening with several headphones gave me a ballpark idea of what I was looking for in a filter.
8. 8 Ohms, you can add an extension cab!
9. If you own a soldering iron you can just make your own cables. It's good practice if you're starting out in fiddling with electronics and very cheap to buy a bunch of neutrik jacks (2 or 3 bucks retail?) And a lenght of good cable (I used Klotz). All my pedalboard connects are handcrafted in this way at the exact lenght they need to be.
10. Is 'Sold Out' not in use for a band name yet?
11. Don't skimp on hearing protection, you can't buy new ears! Also, how can you afford to spend hundreds of bucks on basses, amps, cabs & effects and not want to pay to hear it all properly? Save up for the fitted ones!
12. For a festival project I have used 'A Lot of Germans'. Made more sense in the Netherlands.
13.
Well arseonics to that then.
Now that I would wear on a t-shirt.
14. I'll be rolling with the Truckstop method from now on. Please send me an envelope with those spare 50 notes, I will reimburse you the posting ofcourse.
15. Wash briefly with cold water before playing, use soap every now and then. Dry with towel, play!
16. What a tragedy, metal loses one of it's most influential musicians, a pioneer of extreme music. RIP Jeff!
17. Well I can't go, people might think I'm Sean Connery!
18. There are so many brands that give you clean and Solid, most of them with their own flavor or 'signature' mixed in. SWR is a good one, and you may find what you seek in a Peavey, markbass (though more expensive), Kustom, Gallien Krueger, Hartke, Ashdown. They are all fine, the key is to try before you buy. Compare as many as you can! Also, have fun searching, the search alone taught me a lot.
19. The Happy Tree Friends tune. The score from the Halloween movie. These are a few of my favorite things- from that musical....
20. Baggy jeans like that were thay scottish bloke's doing. What his name... MacHammer? Edit: it's not me.
21.
And this shows my ignorance here, but when I do listen to metal, I don't here the bass line at all. Where as with any other music I can always pick it out.
With thrash metal look for the high mids or high overtones that give m away. Detuners are often audible in growly subs. Kiss and Maiden type stuff is very midsy too... anything to get around those sloppy guitards realy
22. There's oodles and more of interesting and challenging basslines in heavy metal. Some bands not so much, where the bass just follows guitar and nothing else. Too many bands to name them all feature imaginative virtuose and creative bass players, whose parts are not at all easily copyed. The fun in playing slow (laid-back) basic blues/rock for half an hour or more escapes me, it feels like a chore. Me I'd rather play thrilling fast rollercoaster parts, that keep me on my toes and demand my full attention when playing. Just to name a few people that have me raise the bar for my own skills: Frank Bello, Dan Lilker, Steve Harris, Paul Barker, Jo Bench, Frank Watkins, Phil Rind.... Listening to these people (and many others) makes me pick up my bass, try to play what they play and incorporate what I learn in my own songwriting. On the other hand, 'great' bands like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Yes, Genesis and many other millionsellers I can hardly bare to listen a single song of. It takes all kinds apparently!
23. What's wrong with the crowd though? Hollerin' and carrying on while people are talking up there! Brilliant speech I must say.
24. Check out the Peavey pro-vb3. 37 lbs @ 8×el34 Edit: you beat me to it
25. GAS-free since I got my 1996 SR5. Transparant teal green, birdseye maple neck. It's love I tell ya.
