1.
D'oh! The finish on the 2013 is very thin. No bubbles on mine, but will relic nicely... which I'm assuming was the point, Gibson? I didn't know they'd pulled the White/Cream model in 2014; but they did add a 5-string
Thats as far as I can tell because the Gibson website is lagging behind the announcements. As usual, no indication of what is available left handed either.
2. Wouldn't GAK be closer than Andertons? They seem to indicate they have some in stock, although might be worth ringing them in advance just in case they have to bring them over from the warehouse.
3.
Blinkin' 'eck, we all seem happy to pass comment on the EB, but I can't recall many beyond myself owning one I'd definitely try and form your own opinion. I was going to remind you that I'm down the road if you want a try - indeed, Skej might still have one on one the wall of his shop still!
Tried one this summer at GAK. Like the style, liked the sound, feel was reasonable (sure I could get used to it) but found the finish was not very good (paint bubbles and don't like the satin paint they used). However I do note that the 2014 models will be Gloss (good) but no longer available in White (bad).
4. I was in Bass Direct on Saturday (was up north-ish with the kids, to go to the NEC bikeshow the following day). Mark was very helpful, got three leftie basses out of 'stores' for me to noodle (badly) on and happy to answer any questions I had. The only bass I liked was a Mayones Jabba 5 (Sandberg TM was nice to pay but it did not wow me for the money, did not gel with the Clover bass at all). Lovely build quality, played really well......pity it is a 5 stringer, so I was having to work around my inexperience before I got a real feel for it. Pondering whether 5 stringers are the way ahead for me at the moment, need to play more of them (difficult being a leftie). If I decide they are, that Mayones Jabba is pretty damn high on my list.
5.
For me the whole point of using a pick is that it doesn't sound like finger style.
Indeed, which is why I try and persevere using them but I am not a fan (of the playing, like the sound sometimes dammit).
6.
Stop me if I'm wrong here, but the raised center block is from the neck-through reverse T Bird (like my old one) and the body wings are glued on. AFAIK all non reverse T Birds are a set neck and no center block?
Yes, note that I did say 'Reverse' in my post. :-) The Reverse model that Bach sell does not have this raised block. However the bolt-on epiphones and the Mike Lulls (also bolt ons, which I didn't realise before) I looked at at Bass Direct on Saturday have the raised centre block on the Reverse models, which I like.
7. The half century title isn't on the cover of my WHS bought copy from yesterday (but is on the image of the copy on the Table of Contents page). I assume it was noticed during the first print run and then corrected for later runs.
8. I was looking at the Reverse TB Left Handed guitar bach do. But I would want a normal TB pickguard and the raised centre block, like an Epi/Gibson TB body, if I was to have a Fenderbird. Wish Epiphone did lefties. :-(
9.
Good evening, Dave, and welcome to the forum... You'll be hard pressed to find a better offer than the above. Thunderbirds are go..! I can't help further with pick choice; I've never been able to use 'em, ever, for guitar nor bass (but then again, I'm a drummer... ).
I must admit, I struggle with them on Bass and Guitar too. However I use the following, when I try and play with them, as I sometimes struggle to keep hold of the damn things: http://www.slickgrip.com/store/en/
10. Not tried to be honest, as I have a G3 and a B3. However I would assume that as long as you don't use any effects that alter the sound to much (and which you would assume would be tuned for the lower frequencies on the B3), it should be fine. However having both definitely gives you more flexibility.
11. Noticed that Frank Bello has moved to ESP now on the cover of BGM, so: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/esp-ltd-fb-4-blks-black-satin/58664?gclid=CMOPqI6AgLsCFRIPtAodtA4ACw
12. Really enjoyed that, great live sound. Funnily enough I was listening to Chemical Wedding on the way to work this morning.
13.

All true. If I was an American, running an American business in America, or at least having a large part of my structure in America (e.g. eBay, Amazon, etc.) then those threats would have to be taken very seriously. As a Brit, running a British business in Britain which in no way depends on the States, I would have no interest in his threats. [I laugh in the face of danger. Ha ha ha. Hear me laugh.] The reasoning is simple. The 'R' company, though famous, well-respected and highly litigious, is also very small and frankly not awfully rich. The chance that they will instruct transatlantic lawyers to apply to the UK courts for some sort of order against a British company is really miniscule. A man could go bankrupt seriously quickly with that as his business model. Talk is cheap, action is appallingly expensive. As to an order from a US court, the technical term for that in Britain is "toilet paper".
Until a British court extradites you to the US.
14. Preferred 'You are okay' but enjoyed both.
15. Just up the road from me, so I am definately a keen tentative. :-)
16. As a Brass player, I have to confirm it is not a 'cool' instrument to play anymore. I think Sax still is (but thats Woodwind :-P). Brass players seem to generally come from families with a jazz background or brass band (I am the latter). My Grandad, my dad, my brother and me all played in Brass Bands - however none of us do now (Grandad died in the 90s). I did have a brief run with a local carnival band (those from Bournemouth will know the one I mean - assuming they are still around) which was great fun but I think that is the last time I have picked up a cornet/trumpet/flugel horn/tenor horn. Does South Wales have a brass band history. I would assume so (with the collieries) but perhaps that is more northern england?
17. Peavey? http://www.gak.co.uk/en/peavey-millenium-5-bxp-lh/5155
18. I have the shine (note your link was the 4 string version, which has a basswood body (I think) and JJ pickups. The 5 stringer has a (at least) 3 piece Ash body with JM style pickups. Was playing mine last night for the first time for ages (just couldn't get on with a 5 stringer a few months ago). Really quite enjoyed playing it last night, although it really really needs a setup as the action is all over the place coming direct from the importer (just down the road from me in Poole). If you have a limited budget, its not a bad option but the neck is quite widish - if you are a J type person then the Ibanez is probably hard to beat (not tried one other than holding it). Someone mentioned the Cort B5. I have the B4 and again, although I was struggling with the wider neck a few months ago, got it back out last week and absolutely fell in love with it again. Great sound and very very well built (essentially the same as an Ibanez SR600/605, just different electronics (same pickups) and wider neck). However unless you can get one secondhand or B Grade (Thomann.de?) then the cheapest price I have seen is about £450 from the American Guitar Centre in Kent (via Ebay) who I got my B4 from.
19.
2nd hand prs SE
Absolute did have a Navarro SE secondhand when I got the youngest's guitar. They love the birds on the fretboard but it was a couple hundred pounds above budget, shame.
20. Linux Format tried using EcoDisks for a while for their coverdisks, unfortunately their fail rate was awful and they reverted to usual ones. Admittedly CDs are a little more error friendly than DVDs.
21.
Cool look. All you need now is an orange Ford Focus ST to go to gigs in.
Or a KTM.
22. I downloaded this: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/z/zz_top/doubleback_ver3_guitar_pro.htm ..and then loaded the GP5 file into TuxGuitar (Free). There is a Bass tab in there.
23.
[sub]I bought one of these LTD's to learn on. It plays beautifully, looks nice and I'm sure you can pick them up for less than £200. It was a choice between this and the ibanez. I went for the Ltd as i found it for £160.[/sub] [sub]http://www.gak.co.uk...CFfSWtAodnWAAsg[/sub] [sub]http://www.gak.co.uk...ndy-apple/17041[/sub]
Thats the LTD that my youngest nearly went for. It has very hot pickups though, so it depends on her musical tastes.
24. I suspect their musical taste might dictate what style they go for. One of my daughters has a nice looking Shine Superstrat with Floyd Rose Tremolo and locking nut (cost about £200 from the music shop attached to the importer in Poole) and my other daughter has a Washburn XM12 (which she chose after trying all the other guitars in Absolute Music around the £200 price mark - it was a toss up between the Washburn and an LTD in the end).
25. As an aside, Wilko has announced that he is releasing a DVD with his live performance at the KOKO earlier this year (including Norman), along with a 40ish minute documentary. Released on the 2nd December.
