He is at Mr Kyps in Poole on the 31st October (apparently Wilko is due to make cameo appearances at all of these, health permitting). Unfortunately it is Halloween and I will be having to do my parental duty and follow the kids around the neighbourhood, extorting sweets from strangers.

This lot have Open Mic nights in your area, not been to one yet but the videos do show someone on electric bass occasionally so they might be worth a look: http://www.howlopenmic.co.uk/where-when.php Oh and welcome.

Coming back to the bass - Thoughts anyone
What's a PS3? I'm of an age where I know what it is but wouldn't know what to do with it - plus if we had one my son would be on it all the time!! - I'll think about the mixer thing but in the meantime I have news... I played a Squier VM Jazz today and a MM SUB - the shop didn't have a precision and when I got to PMT some young whippersnapper was still noodling when my time ran out. Anyway felt very comfortable playing the Jazz (well as comfortable as it could be with my lack of abilty) - no problem with the strings at the neck, nice range of tone and compared to both the SUB and the Yamaha it just felt right - am I missing anything?? Even worse news is there's one for sale in the classifieds and I'll be in its vicinity this weekend uh oh! Hang on no it's not it's a classic vibe not a VM - I'll just trot off and try to figure out what the differences are between the two then...
Lol on the PS3 - only have Rocksmith and Singstar (for my daughters) on my PS3. Use it mainly as a Bluray player. VMJs are a great choice, apparently the CVs are even better (but they don't do lefties damn them). -

Have you got a PS3 because Rocksmith 2014 is out tomorrow and the jamming mode looks like quite good fun and the amp/effects modelling was quite good in the first version (to get you started again). The Zoom B3 is pretty good for headphone rehearsal too. -
Well I was up with my girls in London at the weekend (been to see Alter Bridge and Shinedown on Friday night at Wembley). We hit pretty much every guitar shop in Denmark Street (did miss out one that said it was for vintage instruments only) and found them all to be very friendly and talkative. Macaris even sent me down to their Charing Cross shop to try an Epiphone Thunderbird. Pity I live 3 hours by train away really (and being a country bumpkin, the mass of people get to me within a day or two lol).
-
Played an Epiphone Classic Thunderbird in Macaris on Saturday upside down, works a treat (other than the reversed strings, which can be sorted). Sounded really nice, neck was very J like and looked gorgeous (Alpine White model, didn't look much far off my Gibson SG in finish quality). Controls did not get in the way at all. GAS now engaged.
-
Not a bass but the case that came with my Gibson SG is amazing, it fits into it perfectly and is stunning in quality. Not that I can imagine ever letting that guitar go but if I did, it would have to go with that case.

I think this could be the difference between the 2012 and 2013 model. The 2012 has Duncan Designed pups and the 2013 has 'fender' ones.

My Squier, Fender Acoustic and my Gibson came from GAK. Never had any problems with them.

Latest mad idea... thunderbucker/p bass mashup!

Can't you get Gibson TBird pickups from an epiphone dealer as spares, as they are fitted to the Thunderbird-Classic-IV-PRO? Or are you specifically after chrome covered ones? -
Dave announced he was going to retire when his wife died (I think she was their manager too?). Seems he has got the taste for it again, which is good to see.
-
The only two Warwick shapes I actually like the look of are the Vampyre and the Streamer (yes I like the look of Spectors too, pity the necks seems to be wide on those). Shame they don't have a dealer in my area or I might give them a go (lefty BTW).
-
I think GAK were doing a deal on this model a couple of months back, this might explain why. Westside Distribution is the UK importer (which sounds scarily similar to the dealer mentioned above), their phone number is: 0844 326 2000

Personally couldn't get on with the bulk of a Les Paul, so that was why I went down the SG route. Love them now. Nicely contoured, thin and don't weigh too much. Got both a Vintage VS6 (damn good for the price) and a proper Gibby Standard now. Completely closed down my guitar GAS (pity about my Bass GAS though).
Amps. The TC BH250 looks pretty good (ignoring the safety issue product recall :/) - however, the manuf website seems to suggest 2 2x12 cabs would be needed, and that looks quite expensive as an option. Why don't they list 1 2x12 cab as an option, is there some issue with needing 2 cabs to cope with power output? The BG250 1x15 combo looks really inexpensive in comparison (as low as 250) - would i only lose a bit of oomph?
You don't need to have an additional cabinet for a BH, it just allows you to use the full 'grunt' of the amplifier if you require it. Depends on what your gigging requirements are really but the BH gives you the flexibility of adding another cab should you need it (and allows a mix of speaker sizes then too). Saying that though, mine has not been gigged. I would try both of them in a store if you have one local.

Been a fan since Start Something (think I found them via Bruce Dickinson's rock show). Unfortunately, although it shouldn't effect the other members of the group whatever way the case goes, it will probably hang over them like a bad smell. Also, as someone raised, there might be ownership issues with the name anyway. If he is cleared, they can always do a comeback at a later stage. If he isn't, well best to make a clean break and hopefully comeback as another entity.

What's everyone's albums of 2013 so far?

Fortress by Alter Bridge has just managed to equal Opposites by Biffy Clyro (if not quite topple it) for me. -
Because I'm not a lover of active basses.
The Classic Pro IV is passive I think (with Gibbo pickups), the cheaper Pro IV is active. If my experiments with upside down playing prove fruitful, I intend to go with a White Classic Pro IV.
Opposites by Biffy Clyro, there's a brilliant album's worth of songs between the two sides but as a whole it's not as good as their other albums to me. I hope it grows on me with a few more listens
Didn't know there was the 'deluxe' version when I bought it, so I only have the 1 CD version and it is my album of the year so far. So perhaps the 'chaff' was removed for my version?

Inspired by a sudden love of white instruments (all the Gibson SGs fault), I am rather taken by the Epi Thunderbird Pro Classic in White (although it could do with a black scratchguard). Now this does not come in left handed (neither does the full Gibson...in White) but looking at the shape, it looks like one of the few basses that would actually look better upside down (I know about Non-Reverses but they don't look as good IMHO). Any upside down TB lefties here, do the controls get in the way, did you reverse the strings?

What are you listening to right now?
