Do note though, as I found when doing the serial conversion on my VMJ, the half pots have a slightly smaller thread diameter - so if you convert to other pots, the holes in your control plate might need a bit of a ream out.

I have a FairFX card for when I am in the Euro zone. It is like a prepaid debit card which you preload (always been at a damn good exchange rate up to now).

From person experience, and this is for guitar, the answer for one of my daughters was Rocksmith. She has been playing it nearly every day through the summer holidays and has improved massively. Now she has gone back to school, her guitar teacher can correct any bad habits she may have picked up and work on the technical aspects. However, the oldest daughter........probably a teenager thing (and she isn't 13 yet!!!).

Mr Kyps and the Bournemouth O2 academy are the two bigger venues I know of, google them and see what is on.

Thought I would give Avenged Sevenfold's new album a try on Grooveshark (never listened to them before)......the package from amazon arrived yesterday - damn good album (Biffy's is still the best of the year so far for me though).

Thats how I play......unless I have to hammer away at some power chords - then I reach for the pick. So Lead = like bass, rhythm = pick.

Had a depressing trawl around music shops over the summer (GAK and Andertons), expecting to find the perfect bass and failing (so much so, I ended up with a guitar instead - see Other Instrument Porn thread!). Tried a Gibson EB 2013, liked how it sounded but did not get on with the neck and the finish was not very good for the price (bubbling in the paint around the neck joint etc). Picked up a Squier VM70s, loved the neck but boy does it weigh some and only Righties were available so could not play. So, having decided that I am a J neck man (my Cort is a little on the chunky side too and although I love the sound, I keep returning to my Squier VM), I am struggling to find basses that meet what I want which is: Maple Jazzlike Neck. Red or Blue body (open to style and pickup configuration). I would love to buy left handed alder/ash Jazz bodies and maple necks and make my own but I cannot find anyone in the UK that seems to do it (excepting Sims but they seem to be more expensive than importing from Warmoth). So unless anyone knows any better, I guess I would have to be Warmoth bound? EDIT: noted the Gordon Smith Gryphon bass, which I love the styling of but the neck looks on the chunky side.

Well I went into GAK the week before last to check out the Gibson EB2013. Loved the sound, wasn't sure about the neck and thought the finish was pretty poor on the one I looked at. So I ended up having a play on this (and bought it the following week): Gibson 2013 SG Standard Min E-Tune (left handed).

I will have to give it a try then, as I was put off by a pretty damn poor appearance on Jools (IMHO).

I see Molotov Jukebox are at Camp Bestival, saw them at the Larmer Tree last week - very good band with a very good bass player.

The S-1 switch/mod just wires both pickups in series, boosting their output. In normal mode, the pickups are in parallel and as you state, there is an out of phase loss when both pickups are at 100%. Personally there is something really cool about hitting a note and trimming one of the volumes down until you hear that sweet point, it is really prominent on my VMJ.

No sign of a lefty model, back to lusting after a Schecter Hellcat VI I suppose.

Depends, some songs the lyrics are just there in the background and the rhythm is everything. Other songs, the lyrics are the song.
