What's everyone's albums of 2013 so far?
DorsetBlue replied to lou24d53's topic in General Discussion
Biffy Clyro - Opposites for me, playing it a lot. -
Was hoping to see the Blockheads at the local festival in Dorchester in August but there is a 'no under 14s' policy, so I cannot go - as I can't take the kids. Hohum.

I read the 'importing' sticky thread a while ago, is importing from Japan now a no-no (i.e. dealers people used to use are not available anymore)?
-
Welcome (my wife was born in Solihull)! Love to know what you think of the EB13?
-
Wow, cracking upgrade. Will be keeping a close eye on this.
Thanks John! As above, I'll try that shop. The next time I need a job done I can drop down to you in person!
They were the people that my Cort came from (via the Bay). Very approachable on the phone and corrected the lack of gig bag being initially sent with no complaint whatsoever.
Everyone grows out of metal eventually. It is just that some people die first.
Is 91 too young to grow out of it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2013/may/24/christopher-lee-album-heavy-metal

Nothing wrong with broadening your music experience and scope. I have always been a 'metaller' since I was a teenager but during that time I was also playing in Brass Bands (wasn't the only heavy metal teenager in some of the bands too). Had to give up when I went into the workforce at 16, as I did not have the time. Now I don't go out of my way to listen to brass band music but I was missing the fun that I had from playing music, so I joined a local carnival band 6-7 years later just for the fun of playing music and entertaining (Bournemouth Carnival Band - locals can now snigger, as they probably know what that means ). I would personally play any type of music, if I enjoyed playing it (doesn't mean I would usually listen to it), as I think the enjoyment is in the playing. Problem is being good enough to play some types .

From their FAQ: Does Dingwall offer a left-handed bass? Rating: -10 No, at this time we do not offer a left-handed bass.
That is private information between the donor and BC. And how would it work? Compromising information of the "good guys" in order to "shame" everyone else? If your name's not on this list then you're a horrible person? This is one of the stupidest things I've seen written on BC for some time and I won't be apologising for holding that opinion.
Pretty sure the Information Commissioner would take a very dim view of such a thing too.

The SR600 is very similar to the Cort B4 (possibly same factory) although the Cort has a chunkier neck (good for P players I guess). The B4 is also quite a bit cheaper (cost wise).
Jools is always a mixed bag for me. Though I have been challenged a few times and have followed a few bands up. Thankfully, though I love the nostalgia, it is good to have the mix of old and new. In fact our band do a cover of the cover that Ben L'Oncle Soul do of a White Stripes number - Seven Nation Army.
For me, thats what Jools is all about and why I record it, then I can skip through the songs that breach my taste filter. Discovered Seasick Steve (got 3 of his albums now and off to see him at the Larmer Tree in July), Rumer, Little Jackie (that was the wife but album still on the car iPod) and probably a couple of others that are not popping into my Monday morning brain at the moment.
I'll state the obvious and feel that Deap Vally seem to be a rip-off of the White Stripes. I did enjoy John Grant from the week before. I was happily surprised to see QOTSA on there. And we still have the Alice Cooper show on the PVR to revisit.
They are like early Black Keys (with rougher vocals IMHO) but I liked them (but then I like The Black Keys). Now I like QOTSA but thought they were rather poor on their latest Jools appearance but there you go.
Hi all, Been playing bass for just over 2 years since my brother enticed me to play some songs at his 40th birthday and have never looked back! Now playing in a band called The Garden Club across Devon and Somerset playing rock/pop/indie covers and wondering why at 43 years of age I didnt do it sooner! Basic simple setup, bass, amp, strings, lets go! Looking forward to what the future brings, may not be any Billy Sheehan but love playing! Cheers Steve
Hi and welcome from across the border.

Ah, that makes sense. But £999 for a second hand Indo bass is expensive I assume?
Me thinks the girls found it straight away. They made sure YOU didn't.... you forget, women have an instinct for these places.
The girls both play guitars, so would have been happy to find it too . We were knackered by that point though (been in the Natural History Museum most of the day), so didn't search the whole place.
In Harrods yesterday, they had a beautifully cased bass that was owned by Roger Waters and a guitar that BB. King used. The Roger Waters Fender apparently used during The Wall with Pink Floyd was $9995 and the BB. King Epiphone guitar was only £6995.If i had the money i would buy them even if overpriced. If you are ever in London, it is worth a look as they are peices of art the way they are mounted. It is in the millionaires roww in the technology department
I took the girls into Harrods earlier in the year and couldn't find the music department.

I am not really sure how the MM bass range works but there is a L/H, Metallic Blue, Birdseye Maple neck, 4 String Sterling Stingray in my local music shop for £999. Seemed rather expensive to me but as I said, I do not understand the MM range.
