I wonder if lower tension (lighter) would help or go nylon with a piezo?
-
Hi, I am up in Dorchester (well just north).
-
Mark Tremonti's new 15W signature head from PRS looks like a stunner - should be out shortly. He recorded the latest Alter Bridge album on the prototype.

Oops, sorry. My bad.

My current plan is to keep: 1) Dunlop Wah (prefer the action) 2) Digitech Whammy (bloody expensive, was a Xmas present and it has far more functionality than that offered by the Helix). 3) TC Tuner (always handy) 4) Fishman Pre-Amp (keeping for acoustic and double bass. It is also a handy little backup for standard basses) 5) EH Big Muff (again, a Xmas pressie and kind of attached to it). Everything else is going.

When my wife was in the hospice, during the last month of her life, I picked up the new Slash album (at the time) Apocalyptic Love. Great album and I was stunned by the vocalist Myles Kennedy. Who was this guy and where did he come from? I then discovered Alter Bridge, Myles' main band. After my wife's death, I bought the Alter Bridge album ABIII. On that album is a song called 'Wonderful Life' which could have been written about my experiences with my wife in those last few weeks. I still struggle to listen to it sometimes now and my tattoo tribute to my wife, on my arm, has extracts from that song included.

I have a 'Billy Sheehan' like patch on my Helix LT, which I downloaded from a YouTube demo someone had done. Indeed has dual inputs etc (the guy was using a Sheehan replica Yamaha in the demo). I downloaded it out of interest, in how he had created the patch.

Welcome! Went to Bulgaria for a holiday - wow 20 years ago! Spent a lovely fortnight looking around Zlatni Piasaci, Varna, Pobiti Kamani and Nesebar.

First proper paid gig....lessons learnt
DorsetBlue replied to DorsetBlue's topic in General Discussion
Weddings are a pain in the arse and have to be priced accordingly. As you discovered, there is a LOT of waiting about. Typically you have to be their early on to set up, play long sets and then wait until the end before you can pack up. 6 hours is actually not bad. People think weddings are good money, but when you work it out, the hourly rate per person is not that great. You have to enjoy playing and hanging out with your bandmates. Yes, I know.
I don't think we will be touching Weddings with a barge pole! This was enough and it was relatively relaxed. -
My band played their second gig on Saturday night, our first paid one (previous one was for a charity). The actual gig went well and was well received, with the lady whose Wedding Anniversary it was (we play 50s and 60s R&R) thanking us at the end. The gig was a little hard work for the money though, as we were playing as part of an entertainment package along with the drummer's DJ sessions. So there was a lot of waiting around for our set and then a little afterwards, before we could pack away. All in all, we were there for 6 hours. I think we should probably concentrate on pub gigs from now on. The main lesson learnt though was.....don't leave your Helix turned on unattended (the DJ/Drummer put his kit on auto-pilot for a while). When we went in to get ready for our set, someone had fiddled with my settings (probably one of the lady's young grandchildren) and I just managed to get it back in a reasonable state (there is a foot switch still assigned to some unknown function - which seems to do nothing when pressed) ready to start the set. Last issue was the volume knob had been turned down - DOH!

Doh, finally thought of the right search hotwords to use: http://line6.com/support/topic/29757-splitting-the-stereo-xlr-outs-for-different-tasks/
I'm pretty sure you can route whatever you want to whichever output you want. Others will be able to give you a more specific answer though...
I thought that but then I was having a quick play with my LT at the weekend and was updating my band setup. I have added a Fender deluxe on a separate path (Channel 1 Return I/P) as a backup for our guitar players Hot Rod (never know when a tube may go) and was intending to assign it to XLR output 2, as my Bass output is wired to XLR Output 1 (feed straight into the bands PA) but there did not seem any option to select 1 or 2 - just XLR (or indeed 1/4") and I don't want our sounds to merge before the PA.
-
Can the XLR and 1/4" outputs be individually selected as specific outputs or are they always linked?
Why can't I find this deal online?! A conspiracy I say!
It is Absolute Music's anniversary and they are doing special deals in store over the next month. This weekend was 'Guitar' weekend and they were doing 24 months 0% on all guitars and pedals over £399.
-
Bought a Helix LT this weekend (Absolute were doing a stupidly good 0% 24 months finance deal and a good price). I got them to get it out of stores for a gander and my other half said, "Just buy it...here's the deposit". :-) Patched to the latest spec, just got to find the time to actually set it up now.

Possible new Harley Benton models... we can vote on!
I do hope I won't regret it for the rest of my life but I made me a facebook account to vote for the PB-50. It looks like this one has a chance of succes at the moment! Only a few more votes and it has made it to the top 5.
Just make sure you have your security settings set to Max and you should be fine. :-) -
My first bass was a Squier VM Jazz, considered at the time to be a cheap but cheerful bass. Since then I have had a few basses, including a luthier made one, and it still feels like home when I come back to the Squier. It is the one bass I will never sell - don't rush from your first instrument if you feel comfortable with it.
-
My Chowny shortscale is my main bass, nice and light and easy to play. Great tone too, helped by fitting flatwounds.

Not strictly digital but these might fit your criteria: http://voxamps.com/MV50
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Blondie fan from waaay back and the band are tight and sound good, but DH just doesn't cut it anymore. She spends half the time speaking the lyrics (if she can remember them) and when she does sing, it seems a real effort. I don't see much difference in the principle of slagging off Geddy Lee because he couldn't hit the high notes on the last tour and pointing out the DH should call it time for similar reasons. A hell of a lot of Geddy bashing went on here during R40 and it's no different in theory. I'm not sure how many would turn out for a Blondie gig with her not being there, so I would expect the lead singer to be on point for the money they charge.
Blondie was my first proper live gig, when I went to see her at the BIC with my wife in 1999 (my wife was 10 years older than me, so she was a teenager in the 70s). We had a great time and they sounded brilliant - so I have followed them closely since. However there has been a significant decline in DH's singing in the last decade. I watched them at Glastonbury a few years ago and it was not good. There was no sign of any improvement on Jools either - which is sad. Ironically my girlfriend in called Deborah and nicknamed Harry (boom tish), and she was not impressed with the Jools perfomances either. Best performance of the night was the bass player with Future Islands - what a cracking tone. Pity there was this bloke staggering around "singing" over his playing.

New jazz bass is too bright, suggestions?
DorsetBlue replied to AnAnInginAneAnA's topic in Bass Guitars
I have the VM 70 and one of the first mods I made was the Serial Switch mod. I then fitted chromes and now it sounds lovely. -
Bought a 4U Gator Rack from Xavier. Excellent comms, goods packed well and received promptly. Recommended. :-)
