Didn't know there had been a band in Salisbury since the Salisbury City Silver Band ceased in the 60s (my Grandfather was a member)? French Horns are unusual in Brass Bands (normally Tenor Horns) but my colleague used to play one in a Salvation Army Band (not in Salisbury though).
-
Depends on what you mean by bands. Only took up guitar/bass in the last few years but played in just about every Brass Band in the Salisbury area over the years.

What do owners use for carry cases for these?

Hi to someone from my hometown.
So are they expecting each band to supply their own pub gig level PA?
Each band to provide their own pub level vocal PA.
-
I don't think the area around this stage will be particularly big, as this is a small festival (no offence to the resident of this parish who is headlining it ). Apparently it is about doing the best they can with what they usually have. I am not going to question the wisdom or otherwise of that - for I do not have any experience in this area whatsoever. I would think for a group of 14yos, the experience of being on a small festival stage will probably be fun enough. Anyway, thanks for everyones advice, opinions and knowledge etc. My colleague is happy enough with the situation now.
-
Clarification is in....apparently when they said PA, they meant the same level of PA that you have in a usual pub gig environment i.e. vocals with the guitars and bass using amps and drum purely acoustic. So the stage in question would appear to be based on a standard of a pub gig level.
-
Thanks for everyones advice, which I have passed on. I have recommended that they go back to the organiser to question to requirement and at the least get a scope for what they are expecting to be provided.

Hmm, I have looked at the festival website and I think my colleague has got slightly the wrong end of the stick about the battle of the bands bit, as it seems to be a standard 45 min slot. Apparently one of the band has an older brother that also has a band and are having a family wedding, so the cost could be spread across these. But we have no idea what level of kit this is talking about?
-
Okay, this is for a colleague of mine. His son (14) and friends are in a band and they have been picked to play on a minor stage at a small local festival in a 'Battle of the Bands' kind of format. They have been told that they will need to provide their own PA, as last year some of the bands claimed they were not very good because of the provided PA. Now I have never used a PA and neither has my colleague (both Brass players historically) - so we are not sure what level of equipment this would entail. Does anyone have any experience of this kind of thing and could suggest what type of kit (possibly with examples) that they should be looking at?

I put D'addario chrome flatwounds on my Squier Jazz and I wasn't convinced about the sound whilst playing it at home. During band practices though, they sound excellent and I love the feel.

Only in America ... BB King didn't die of old age
DorsetBlue replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
The problem with palliative care is (in this context, thoroughly support those in the hospice care field), it is all about making the person's death as comfortable and pain free as possible. The drugs that do this, morphine etc, tend to bring death on a 'little' quicker - so anyone can use this 'foreign substance' claim but it is not valid. I would rather die pain free than live for an extra day or two in agony. -
ESP Japan Artist Series D-TT vs. Edwards E-TT
DorsetBlue replied to dc2009's topic in General Discussion
I think I read in Total Guitar that ESP is looking at exporting the Edwards name again (this was a NAMM article). Probably going for a price point between LTD and proper Japanese ESP. -
Female drum teacher wanted - Kingston, SW London
DorsetBlue replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
I thought a female teacher would be good inspiration and quite fun for our daughter, but I'm not 100% set on it. I'll PM you chaps for your contacts, thanks
I know what you mean, I always like to point out female (guitar in this case) role models to my daughter like Lzzy Hale and Orianthi etc (her guitar teacher is indeed male and is superb). Emily Dolan Davies is featured in the two Darkness videos currently released on YouTube from the new album but has alas left the band for some undisclosed (but apparently mutually agreed and friendly) reason to be replaced by Rufus Taylor. -
Same here; didn't get the FFS thing at all - very odd match and not really sure what they're looking to do.
My comment to the girlfriend was that it was 'Metallica and Lou Reed all over again', however I actually enjoyed the montage of both FF and Sparks they did at the end of the show - which is one song/s more than I ever liked from the former collaboration mentioned!

Probably trying to copy this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/b.c.-rich-joey-jordison-signature-warlock-guitar Apparently Joey Jordison used his own blood on his guitar.

Damn, I used to use Grooveshark to listen to an album. If I liked it, I went and bought it (ah memories of the listen pods in music shops). I have discovered and purchased albums from many bands that I had not heard of or would have otherwise struggled to hear their music because of this.

Andertons are saying that they can get them in, once they are out. There is a Schecter dealer in Exeter too.....Hmm, better wait until after the Florida holiday first though.

...and available Leftie too! http://www.schecterg...-plus-lh-detail
Richard's Guitars is a stockist, they're in Stratford-Upon-Avon which isn't *too far* from Yeovil.
Whoops, was focussing on the Bass Direct comment. I think Mansons in Exeter are G&L dealers too (a lot closer to Yeovil), I am sure I saw some in there a fortnight ago - worth a look at their website/or a phonecall?
-
Isn't there a G&L dealer in Stratford Upon Avon (just down the road from Warwick)?

Blimey! The Rickenbacker thread has just kicked off again!

I was going to post to say I tried a Rick bass last week and kind of liked it (not enough to mortgage the children to buy it however). Perhaps not. -
Just ordered one of the cheap TE-20s (they only do this model in Leftie alas). Will update on what I think of it, once it arrives.
