1. Enjoyed that, reminded me a bit of Rival Sons.
2.
Strange about the lack of reminder. I get bombarded with reminders from about 2 months before my subscription runs out!
Still getting bombarded after my subscription has run out lol.
3. Only issue I know of (I have the 70s, Basswood/Rosewood model) is with the Natural finish one (Maple/Maple) being damn heavy.
4.
Well, no one else has posted it so I suppose I'll have to. Best 'Back of a Moving Vehicle' promo video ever. https://www.youtube....h?v=ZDCs7ijNUVM
Not sure, this one is close: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e5hRLbCaCs
5. Saw this and thought it might be of interest to someone, seen this band play and they are excellent: http://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/wanted-rockabilly-bass-player-t731455.html
6. I bought EZDrummer 2 just after Xmas. Couldn't believe how easy it was to use.
7. As others have said here, I loved what I had heard on Jools etc. So when their album was released, I listened through it on 'tinternet and by halfway through I had lost interest. Still like their sound and when listening to them infrequently but their album wasn't one that I would have on repeat.
8. I have a Cort B4 (essentially same bass as the SR600). Pretty sure it has some form of thin coating, as it does not pick up stains (of the sweat etc type I mean). Must be pretty thin though, as you can feel the natural grain.
9. My local music shop still cannot get one of the pTrumpets in.
10. RIP.
I play in a rock and roll band, and it's quite interesting attempting to interpret those ultra simple Crickets' bass lines into something punchy and worth playing. Often I just cut it right down to simple root notes and enjoy belting out all the backing vocals - it works!
Funnily enough I have just made a version of Peggy Sue for my Punk band.
11. Watched the episode. How to change a PR coup into a PR disaster in 2 minutes!
12. I managed it when I converted mine to left handed (don't think I recruited a daughter....). They are indeed knotted at one end and then fed from below the bridge.
13.
Who's THAT?
Bloke from Bowling for Soup?
14.
Whereabouts in Somerset are you? I'd have thought quite near here You don't get more bottom end than Chard
You know what they say about Chard....it should be!
15. Enjoy playing mine but don't get to do so often. It needed a little fettling (and I converted mine to left handed) but cracking for the price.
16.
Round here in the Dorset/Somerset area a number of open mics are run under the banner of Howl Open Mics. Pretty much acoustic and I was about the first to take a bass along I think. A lot more since then though. We used it to get a set together, learn three songs at rehearsal then down to the pub to try them out on an audience. Elijah the host is pretty fair in trying to get everyone who wants up on stage, there's a bunch of regulars who he'll manage to fill the gaps and/or lift the show but there's priority to get new people on and lots of support for nervous performers. Good musicians will often accompany others but it's generally more about people doing their songs than a jam session.
I have been following HOWL on Facebook and did spot some photos with a bass player in (might well be you?). The only Open Mic night I have been to, is the one in Dorchester at Tom Browns - which I went to to see what the format was before taking an instrument. There was one group with an acoustic bass (DI'ed) but the rest were as you say, acoustic soloists and duets.
17.
I cried when I listened to Deconstruction. Such crushing disappointment.
Listened to that yesterday...its okay. Sky Blue on the other hand.
18. Hercules here too but my plasterboard walls are awful. Onto the spring loaded fastenings now.
19. Well California Breed came about apparently because other artists (mainly Mr Bonamassa) would not agree to a set gigging programme for this project. So he recruits this young guitarist with apparently no other ties (he will have soon no doubt, he is very good) to join him and Mr Bonham. Then once the album is released Mr Bonham walks and now the band is apparently over after one tour. With no evidence whatsoever, IMHO it would seem that Glenn may be a little contrary to deal with. Oh well, I look forward to seeing what Mr Watts does next.
20.
Should be a good gig, with them and korn together . I'm not a huge fan, but I find the new album so -so. Custer tho ' , is the nuts ! Is joey playing on that , or was he gone by then?
I could be wrong but I am sure I remember in TG Jim Root saying he played the bass parts on the album. The bassist (and the other replacement, drummer maybe?) are only considered as gig players and are not officially part of the band. Might change though.
21. Damn and all very confusing. So Watts says he was happy for the long haul, Bonham had already been replaced.....strange. Oh well, I thought the album was great and enjoyed seeing them in Leeds.
22. I have been looking at buying one of those, to make a knockabout Wilko rep (its one of the only Teles I can find leftie that is Black/Rosewood). If you beat me to it, I would be interesting in what you think of it (I have a Strat to build at the moment).
23. My experience of trying the natural VM Jazz is that it is a weighty instrument (you can make your mind up when you try the R/H one). SR300s get good opinions, as do the Squiers. If you want extra grunt on the squier, you can do a Series wiring mod or buy gruntier pickups (or get a Behringer BDI21). Which one do you prefer the look of?
24. As my maple/maple guitar neck has arrived from G&L, I thought I would start planning on the finish. My plan is to have a slight vintage tint, not the bright yellow you see sometimes. Then I want the fingerboard to be glossy like an American Standard Strat but I am not sure I want the back to be glossy. Current plan is to use some type of woodstain and then to seal the neck using Rustins Plastic Coating but this raises a few questions: 1) What stains do people recommend that will not react with Rustins? 2) What do you do about the frets; cover them during the 'Rustins' stage, sand them gently down afterwards, leave as is.....? 3) Will Rustins be annoyingly 'grippy' on the back of the neck? If so, what are the options? Use a different lacquer on the back? Use wire wool on the Rustins finish once it has cured....?
