It's been years since my last NBD. It's been months since my last NPD too. WTF?!?
Sample rate reducer? Like a tamer ring mod. +1 for the feedback loop too.
I'd love a BugCrusher but what alternatives are out there?
As for trigger. First we tried triggering just by some mic but it was catching all other sounds too. So then we made diy trigger by wiring jack to piezo element which costs less than pund
Do you manage to get that really 'pumping' sound with this compressor/sidechain set up? Dan
Korgs & Jems back in the 80s & 90s.
I used to play with a Sci-Fi/Surf band and our synth collection used to make me cry. I brought the Microkorg but they all had Wasps, MS10s & 20s, Jens and a selection of theremins. Oh man I miss that band!
Wasn't sure about the berhinger unit tbh. would need a 15 metre mains lead!
If you're concerned about running a long power cable, the FCB only sends midi down 3 of the 5 pins so you can use two to send power down; this way you don't use a separate mains lead. It's referred to as the 'Phantom Power Mod' and you can buy kits HERE or find instructions on how to do it yourself.
Dan, why did you have to go & post that video? Just when I thought I'd decided the final 3 pedals for my board, I now want a ring mod as well!!!! Must............................Resist!
I just can't find a use for my ring mods. I think the Moog and a CP201 might add the level of functionality that a static ring mod lacks. I love 'Music is Rotted One Note' and as such I've been trying to find a good ring mod sound.

How about a Ring Modulator? Mental as a polydactyl cat!

I guess you've come to the same conclusion your lecturer would point you to: 'Be specific'. I would suggest focussing on 5 main body woods, their tonal properties and their organic nature that leads to their tonal properties; then perhaps some visual examples of facing woods but without any analysis. You'd cover a lot of the choice and be able to find both scientific and aesthetic pointers which should gain you marks on thoroughness on creativity. I would echo 3below's request on your marking criteria too. It sounds like a great project and I am rarely a pedant but I think you've asked for help and we can do it.... the plural of bass is basses. A quality belonging to a bass is a bass's quality. Dan PS I'm sorry if you found that patronising, but I'm a teacher who does his best to help his students get the best marks possible.

The other thing is that some pedals that are bass-specific have particular controls or features that are designed to work with the bass's frequency range and role in performance - I'm particularly thinking of things such as filters and blend controls that help us retain our low end or contribute to it. In reality, there's nothing wrong with using guitar effects with bass as long as they satisfy your requirements. Myself, I like the crossover in the CEB3 and the blend on the BDDI.

Hi Joe, Who is your DVD aimed at and what is the purpose? If you are offering information about options and basically educating the viewer about the many variables involved in choosing a custom bass then you just need to break down the variables into sections then clearly explain the impact of the choices. The issues are that there are SO many variables with something as 'insignificant' as fretboard wood (that's in inverted commas because it obviously isn't insignificant). Dan

The serial checker on the Yamaha website (using the serial KO02073 - K002073 wasn't found) produces a manufacture year of 74 or 84. Dan

My mate's snapped a tuning peg and is after a replacement. What model is this? Passive, VVT, kinda BB shaped body...

I have had mixed experiences of compressors with bass. With guitars,I can easily get a range of phenomenal sounds but with bass it's much more difficult. I would definitely go to www.ovnilab.com for all the compressor info though - really great range of reviews from a source that I personally trust (unlike the myriad of harmony central reviews). I usually start with a click then layer 2 of 3 main parts: bass in the 1st 5 frets, accompaniment in frets 7-12 and melody beyond. The remaining part becomes my focus for the composition/practice. I then can spend literally hours playing about, and throw in a few effects and that can turn to more time than I have available. I heart looping. Dan

I've used Spetrasonic's Trilogy many times. Some very nice sounds in there. Dan EDIT: Trilogy has been discontinued and replaced with 'Trillian' which I've not used.

I've never used the G-Major but I would give a resounding NO in reply to the below question:
Q - Should I just stick with my two pedal setup - bass-multi-chorus and DD-3 delay?
I just like effects, is all. Dan

This is kinda 'Angular' This is kinda 'Glitch' But neither of them are really angular or glitch, I just like the tunes. Dan
I've read that 4 times now and still dont know what it means but it sounds cool. I sometimes sneak a couple of mouthfuls of my pint during slow bits on our songs, I've often thought that's not far off Geddy's multi tasking.
Yeah, I get halfway through a song and I'm gagging for hydration. Basically, I push one of the pedals on the Behringer FCB and it sends a note-on message to the microkorg; this means I can play synth bass with my feet whilst playing guitar with my hands. It allows my angular/glitch band to sound a lot fuller and more complicated than a 3-piece without adding more players. Dan

The sync'ing on the M series isn't that great. According to reports, they will eventually drift from the click so the 'Pattern Tremolo' (like the SL20) isn't that reliable in a live setting, especially compared to an SL20 or Adrenalinn. The modulations, reverbs and delays are fantastic though and it has become a significant part of my live setup. Still not figured out how to use the ringmod in a musical way though. A second hand M9 or M13 is a great investment and will hold most of its value if you decide to sell it on. Dan

Hubrad did the same with an Ibanez Roadster [LINK].
Being able to power it with phantom power from a board is a bonus too.
I never knew about this. We get phantom sent anyway since our synth player takes it for his DIs. Thanks Dan

Loads of excellent compressor reviews HERE. This reviewer really does know his stuff and expresses himself in a very accessible way. Have a read. Dan

I use the Diago Powerstation [HERE] but many who aren't bothered by voltage just use the Dunlop DC Brick [HERE]. Others use the Johnny Shred Freak such as this one [HERE]. Dan
