Although, depending on the controls, setting everything left might not silence the effect, just set it to a minimum.
+1 It just depends on the circuit and the components. Why are you concerned? If you need it to sound flat, turn it off. If the pedal is overall too bassy, well that's a different kettle game. Dan

Vintage Musitronics Mu-tron III on its way from the States
DanOwens replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects
I may sound like a fool, but why doesn't someone reissue this? What is it about them that makes the supply so short of the demand, thereby increasing the price? Does it use components that aren't manufactured any more? I've noticed that Lingenburg Sound helped developed the EHX Enigma and suggest how to make it sound like a Mutron. Does this mean the demand is simply hype? Dan -
NOW SOLD This pedal's ideal for those of you who want to get into synth bass playing (I've used this in DnB, dubstep and hiphop acts). Any of us that play synth bass tell you you need 3 things: Octave, Fuzz and Filter. The BMS has all this and more. Previously the MicroSynth had a fixed sweep and was a real tone-sucker. With these mods the pedal is now fully true bypass and you can control the filter cutoff with the included Moog Expression pedal (unless the pedal is detached, then it reverts back to it's normal slider-controlled state). Also, there's been an LED added that displays whether the pedal is engaged or not (I can't believe that I had to have that added!!!). There's one main cosmetic bit of damage which is that the cap of the 'rate' slider has broken off, but that's not really relevant when you use the expression pedal and it's still easy to slide even if you're not using it. All mods done by our very own Umph (Mammoth Audio). I'm at work now, but will upload pics later. In the meantime, here's a vid of a guy who's done the same mods (watch from 5:30 onwards to see how awesome this pedal is): I'm after £175 (including postage) for this pedal. That includes the Moog expression pedal (£35 new) and these mods (£50). Dan PS Will consider trades. Need reverb (or M9/13).
you could try a song called By Design from my band at this link http://www.myspace.com/songsbycanadians
I rarely come across groups that I like, but this was actually really nice. Thanks!

A 5-string blue Shuker Jazz Bass has gone missing!
DanOwens replied to Funkmaster's topic in General Discussion
Please don't tell me its this one as i know its from around the Huddersfield area and i've supported the guy that plays it and it sounds amazing!!! (it's what i'd base mine on if i got a shuker) Love it. I really hope the guy gets it back...
Isn't this the one Jack from Extra Curricular uses? I too hope it wasn't him, he's a top guy!
horrifically priced
And therein lies my own issue. I've definitely spent that amount of gear on pedals and midi setup etc, but never in one go. I do hope you get a VB99, because I don't doubt it is suited for what you (we) do. Then I can live vicariously through your effects! Dan

If I was looking to buy a pedal that would 'even out' the loud peaks in my signal (such as a compressor/limiter/enhancer), I'd check out www.ovnilab.com for the best suggestions. There's a simple 'what is the best' page here > CLICK. I also would suggest buying second hand from here. You'll get a good price for a reliable bit of kit from a good seller. A pedal such as the Markbass Compressore CLICK or the DHA VT1 Bass Compressor CLICK are really excellent pedals for a very good price. If that's too steep, the BBE Optostomp CLICK come up cheaper and are also excellent pedals. Dan

In this case, I'd plug my bass into the Limiter/Enhancer, then into the chorus, then into the amp. Which pedals are you using? Is it the Boss Limiter/Enhancer LMB-3 and the Boss Chorus CEB-3? Dan
-
An Adrenalinn would do it, but to really get it tight you'd have to midi-sync your band and get your drummer to play to click (thats what we did!) Dan
-
Hey man, these pedals do very different things. The limiter/enhancer will control the volume of your signal by turning it down once it reaches a certain volume. It does this very quick, potentially effecting every note you play. The chorus effectively duplicates your bass sound, making it sound thicker. Things are more complicated than that, but that is the simple explanation. Your question seems to assume that the pedals are similar, when in fact they are completely different. Dan

The Bays really inspired me in getting into live electronica and their bass player uses the earlier V-Bass system that Ped uses; the sub from his system was HUGE. Also, the V-Bass is going to be more reliable than pitch-to-midi. I've considered doing it many times, too. I do like having a large board, but I take up so much space on stage at the mo. The VB99 would remedy this. Dan

I love the VoiceTone Synth pedal. Another girl I work with uses the Create pedal from the same line. They've just brought out a firmware update, so I guess they'll be continually improving. IME they're great pieces of kit. Dan

My issue would be keeping the instrument in a safe, secure and appropriate place. Temperature, humidity, risk of fire or theft; all of this would seriously concern me if I had potentially 1000s of pounds locked into one item. If it was any other investment, you'd keep it safe somewhere other than your loft / living room. Dan

Maybe Dolphin or Rose Lane in Liverpool too. I'll have a nosy if I get a chance (and blame you for any accidental pedal purchases!) Dan
The problem I find isn't the strength of the velcro hooks, but the velcro glue - which comes away all too easily.
Yeah, you won't have to worry about that with the Heavy Duty stuff. When I applied the Heavy Duty stuff I waas cautious to allow the glue time to set in before I tried to hook it to anything. In fact, I'll detail my process:

Remove any stickers from the area you intend to use velcro on
Clean the back of the pedal with and alcohol-based cleaner to remove dirt and oil (I used Surgical Spirit)
Allow the clean areas to dry thoroughly
Cut small pieces of velcro with around 1inch[sup]2[/sup] surface area (for Boss, I used a thin strip at top and bottom and for others a 1''x1'' piece)
Peel off the back and place a piece at the desired location
(This is where I get all OTT) Use a pair of closed scissors and run the tip down between each line of hooks, using a firm pressure - This should ensure the glue is thoroughly bonded
Use the handle of the scissors to apply pressure across the entire surface of the velcro - this should ensure the area between the scissor paths is also bonded
Leave for 24 hours at room temperature upside down (so the weight of the pedal presses on the glue)
I did this with each pedal after opening my case and seeing about £2000 worth of gear pressing on top of each other. Dan

I realise that this thread's about to turn into a broken record but I put a 1-inch square in each corner of a Moogerfooger LowPass then left the pedal for 24 hours for the glue to set. I placed the pedal in the wrong position and spent 10 minutes trying to pull it off; I was concerned about bending the metal chassis because it was holding so strongly. Dan

I used to play with these guys and my best mates are their entire team. I was chatting to them over a pub quiz a few months ago about Tord's sound. They said it was a P into an old Fender Bassman. Surely the Boss Bassman pedal [CLICK] or a Sansamp would get you pretty close. His sound is that cranked valve, fresh rounds sound. Strings are easy but expensive whereas a second hand BDDI would probably be a cheap and reusable sound. Dan

Can you get synthier sounds like the Soundblox Multiwave? Dan
-
I use the TC Electronics VoiceTone Synth. It has inbuilt distortion and autotune stuff that I've combined to make some nice bass synths through singing. Here's some of the sounds you can get: Dan

You guys must play in quiet bands! Either that or my bandmates are weaklings! My bandmates all recommended ER25s because we play at band volume. My Little Mark 250 is at about 40% and that competes with my drummer. Still, I went for 25s. Dan

I want to give Vickers a cup of ginger, honey and lemon. That'd clear her sinuses in no time!
Worrying to hear that, given I'm gonna be spending a fortune. Were yours proper musicians' plugs etc?
I've always used ER20s (the conical rubber, christmas tree types) but my band members were saying the ER25s just make everything quieter rather than cut out all the energy-driven high mids. I'll post a comparison between the ER20s (not moulded) and the ER25s (moulded) when I get them but it could be 4 weeks! Dan
-
This thread convinced me to go out and get a set of ER-25s. I had my ears cast on Friday so should be ready for the Christmas glut. It's about time and I'm sure I'll be glad once I get into it but it has always been a massive problem - the plugs sap the life out of the songs and since it's all DnB it needs a lot of energy. Dan
