Lovely 45 year old 'P'. bass... Purchased by myself just over a year ago, but being unused. Showing player wear, which I have tried to show in the pics, but in great condition considering it's age. I have changed the jack input socket, which was crackling intermittently, but the original is with the bass, and is shown in a couple of pics... It does have a 'fag' burn on the headstock, and the very common crack under the last screw of the pickguard, but the plate is still intact, with the cracked piece having not separated. (See pics.) Also, it has the original chrome work, and the elongated G string intonation screw... again I have tried to show this in one of the pics. The last few images show it's Music Locker advert, and also their opinion of the bass when it was for sale from their stock two years ago. This advert is still on the site under 'Sold' if you wish to verify authenticity.. Collection only from Lichfield, Staffs, but I am prepared to travel part distance if this helps... I believe £2195 to be a fair and reasonable price for this bass, but please feel free to put forward sensible offers near this figure. This is a cash sale only, so no trade offers please....For a more detailed chat, 'message' me, and I will send you my phone number.....Thanks, John..🎸

I've said it before, but all that sort of stuff is like pulling a handbrake turn, or wheel spinning in a gravel car park.. It's great if your the driver, but if your watching, it might grab you for a few seconds, and then it's a case of " what's that all about then. "

Bass players still poor relations in a band...?

I know how Emily Pankhurst felt when she first said "Wouldn't mind a vote myself if it's not too much trouble." -

I was at my usual jam session on Tuesday night, and one of the regular guitarists, turned to me and said, "something funky in A minor," then after a short pause he added, "Oh, just 'A' for you as it doesn't make any difference to the bass." I instantly got steamed up with him, but for the sake of peace and tranquility said ok, and in the jam that followed, deliberately when through every note in every mode to show that the bass, and the bass player can colour a song with far more than root notes, thirds, fifths and the octave... So I was wondering if other 'bass chatters' have come up against this "it's only the bass player" attitude, where other musicians perceive you as the person who stands at the back, and must speak only when spoken too. I must add that guys in my regular band understand the importance of full involvement from me, so perhaps it's mainly open mic or jam nights. Any chance of a few similar stories from you guys who have encountered 'burn the witch' mentality....

Thanks Chris. I thought that perhaps by using two outputs/inputs, I would get the full 4ohms out of the cab..

Thanks for that obbm. My curiosity is now satisfied.... Nice one...

I have an Ashdown ABM 600 with two speakon connectors on the rear panel, and also an 8ohm speaker cab with two speakons at the back. Can I plug both speakon cables from the amp into both of the cab inputs? Normally I would plug my second cab in to get the full welly out of the amp, but I am curious about what will happen if I connected them the way mentioned above. After years of having amps with only one speakon output, and seeing two on the Ashdown has made me ask what is probably a very foolish question...PS, the cab I am referring too can handle 1000 watts, so should handle the Ashdown..

Best and worst bass gear purchases for 2017?
jonnythenotes replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Best..... Ibanez Grooveline 4 string... (Made even better by the fact it was reduced from £1600 to £800.) Close second.... DB Embee 2x10 cab. Worst....Aguilar TH500.... -
Last sentence should have read.... 'It has nothing to do with achieving high volume'. ...😁

Thanks to all of you for your help and advice... I now have a pretty good understanding of how it works, what to do, and more importantly, what not to do... I would never need to run the Puma anywhere near full belt, as a lot of the gigs I do are small to medium venues, it's just that an extra cab and the additional speaker surface area thickens out the sound, and warms it up a bit, and too my ears it's particularly noticeable at lower volumes. It certainly has nothing to do with volume... 🎸👍

Wow.... What an education... Thanks for that fellas.. Brillo

Could you clarify one thing Japan... What I meant to say was if the amp had 2 speakon outputs, and each of the two above mentioned cabs were plugged in to these, instead of being daisy chained, would each cab still get 50% ? Sorry about the vagueness in my last post...
-
Thanks Amigo....
-
Thanks Japan... I suspected as much, but thought the amp might just see them as as a 3 speaker cab, and not as 2 separates. So by daisy chaining them, I am in effect reducing the potential power as the single speaker cab with a 250 watt limit is now the weakest link in the chain, and couldn't handle its 50% share of potential from the amp, which would be 300 watts.. Presumably, even if the amp had 2 speakons at the back, the outcome is still the same... 50% into each cab...
-
Hi folks. If I daisy chain a 600 watt cab with two speakers into a 250 watt cab with only one speaker, does the amp share the power evenly between the three speakers, or does it give 50% to each separate cab.. it's a Tecamp Puma 900 amp, and I am curious to find whether each speaker would receive 33% of what the amp is putting out, effectively giving each speaker the potential to handle 200 watts, or would it give each cab a 50% share meaning the twin speaker cab gets 150 watts to each speaker, while the 250 watt single speaker cab could get 300 watts.. pushing it into trouble.. Hope this makes sense... PS, both cabs are 8 ohms...🎸

Thanks gents.... You have saved my brain from exploding....🎸👍
