Thanks for the info Mr Meddle. The one I looked at appeared to be active as it had what looked like a battery compartment on the reverse across the middle, I remember that it had Ibanez branded pickups and three controls. I couldn't see a S/N anywhere on it. I have a couple of Hohner B2a's, a fretted and fretless which I love dearly, but what drew me to the Axstar is the fact it had a top horn, which must be an advantage over the Hohner in giving a more conventional playing position. The zero fret on the Hohner seems a mile away until you get used to it. Also, whilst I didn't have the opportunity to test them side by side for weight, it seemed to me that the Ibanez was noticeably lighter.

Came across one of these for sale yesterday, passed on it because I was unfamiliar with the model, but it seems a pretty rare oddball. Can only find one other for sale and that's in Japan. Am I mistaken in its rarity, and indeed are they any good? Thanks

Three times on different occasions I have driven miles to buy (different) Gibson SGs only to be underwhelmed by having the thing on my knee, mind blank as to something impressive to play in a music shop, and have left feeling deflated but richer for the experience. Must be my mood, but three times???

For the last 30 odd years I have assumed all the "mad" guitar parts on D.E.'s albums have been played by the man himself. Also for much the same period I have been certain the solo on Kirsty Macolls "Guy Works Down The Chipshop" was by D.E. though I couldn't find him credited for it. Sometime recently I watched Kirsty on TOTP with that song, and on guitar is Keith Chegwin!!! Only it's not Keith Chegwin, it's his doppelganger Billy Bremer. So all these mad guitard solos on the Dave Edmunds songs, you know the ones, they're really off the wall, like the solo on "A1 on the Jukebox" for example, anyone know if they were palyed by Dave or his Rockpile stablemate Cheggers (Billy Bremner)?

I bought an ESP (cheaply) off the Bay a few years ago. It had flats on it, and I've hated it all this time and seldom played it until this week I changed them to rounds. Now I love it. We all go through many phases and fads, sometimes we settle with something, sometimes we keep searching for the right combination. I've played fretless with my band a number of times, and my ears wince at my poor intonation. My band say they can't hear any difference. I guess they are too busy doing their own thing!

Amazing sound and techniques, boring songs, wining vocal. I'm sure if you were in front of them you'd think they were brilliant, but having the ability to switch channels, well I did.

Heard a song on radio 2 a couple of times this week and I'd have sworn it was XTC. You bring the Summer appears to be a new single by the Monkees, and Andy Partridge appears on the writing credits. It's got AP written all over it, even down to the snare. Not quite XTC, but better than nowt.

I think it's a bit more percussive with a pick, and I find timing a bit tighter. But, I have no tip to my right index finger, and poor coordination with the other fingers, so I find I'm unable to do a waling style with my right hand. That said, because I don't have that tip, holding a pick is a little uncomfortable, so generally I alternate between pick and fingers as the song dictates, ie faster riffs need the pick. In any even I would rather play finger style as I love the feel of it, and it feels like proper playing.

Just awful. So saddened.

I never played much guitar, not much bass either but the time did come to get more serious and generally I prefer finger style, but as I haven't got a tip to my right index finger I play with my second finger. Hence I can't "walk' with the 2, plus my coordination is equal to that of a zombie. Answer is to use a plectrum (pick as you youngsters call 'em) and like the OP I struggle to hold it. I think the answer in my case is to practise and just keep on until it feels more natural, but the thumb pick is deffo worth trying. I tend to cling on to the pick for dear life for fear of dropping it, which obviously effects my general suppleness. Give that man a toffee apple!

Carol Kaye for sure, seeing as she shaped a lot of it during her long career. Didn't she invent the bass guitar???
