Buy a cheap Squier or MIM Jazz, then upgrade it as financial circumstances allow...

Any open instrument case = cat magnet Edit: I hope they are not gut strings
I went to the first one in 1914. ...
That's got to be the best post I've ever seen on Basschat. You buffoon!
I mainly check BC in work these days. By the time I get home and sort the kids out I've forgotten that there was something I needed to check out... :-(
^ This ^

I think the longest medley we ever did was about 45 minutes i.e. the whole set. That was in a Conservative Club (hey - it's all money!) and the poor old dears were exhausted by the time the bingo came on! We did all songs from our 'sick' list (yes, it is called that ) - Amarillo, Ten Guitars, Obla-dee, Country Roads, etc ad nauseum. We were in stitches, tears of laughter...

Wedding gigs can be some of the most disheartening experiences. I have played at a few really good ones - but could probably count them on one hand. The worst one was when our trio nearly outnumbered the guests - which included the bride & groom! The majority of weddings involve a lot of old people who haven't seen each other for decades wanting to chat all night. We're not really a wedding band, so don't do that many any more. However the word 'wedding' nearly always adds a zero to any cost.

Peugeot 307 estate. Admittedly it's a bit like an MPV, but actually has room in the boot All of my stuff fits in the boot (15" combo, lights, various bags/holdalls/cases) and the bass goes in the rear footwell.
-
Blimey - you don't see these very often. I'd have it as a spare, but my guitarist bought one after hearing mine - for the occasional gigs he does on bass. Have a free bump for a seriously under-rated combo! I've lot count of the number of times people have commented about mine - sounds massive and fits easily into the car boot
-
And of course those times when the guitarist over-runs the solo by half a verse then immediately rips into the chorus. Oh how we laugh about those

Forget where I am in the song?! Sometimes I forget how to play the bass!
<snip> The going price for these things is severely depressed, so I suspect people are holding on to them rather than selling or trading. <snip>
... in a nutshell And back OT, the price of a round of drinks is not a huge amount to cough up for a targeted market for selling your stuff. I'd happily pay it just for the chat, as I don't buy & sell a lot at all. I'd still quite like to be able to 'buy' an icon to accompany my avatar - a visible but non-prejudiced sign that you have donated. (b3ta.com do a similar thing - but it's definitely a NSFW site, so don't hurl yourself against your corporate firewall trying to find it!)
Ok then, tell you what, strip it down to the bare wood, have it resprayed in gloss black and I'll give you £550 for it.
Actually it's very similar to this one of grahamd's that has been hanging around the for sale area for weeks, but with the original white scratch plate and lots of case candy. If his 'ain't selling at that very reasonable price, mine is unlikely to either! Edit: Oh, and mine's a rosewood board
-
£20 is not exactly going to break the bank, and gives the site some much-needed funds. I've paid up, but rarely sell anything. I have at least one bass I'm thinking of selling, but it's such a poor seller's market at the moment I'm hanging on to it until either things improve or I really need to cash it in (or the wife notices I did one in without the one out! ).
Of course, they could just rout a hole right the way through the body, put a blank pickguard on the front and mount the pups on rails behind the pickguard all stealthy-like. Couple of rotary knobs attached to rubber loops to wind the pick-ups back and forth - just like on older radios. Elegant, discreet and practical. In the back, there'd be two small wooden doors. Open them up and you find a little cocktail cabinet with miniatures of Glenfiddich and two shot-glasses. Light comes on and a musical box plays 'Lara's theme' from Doctor Zhivago. Only £2999.99 from Del Var Gracious Home Interiors. (Postage not included, E&OE)
Monitor now covered in bits of half-eaten sandwich

I'll put in a mention for the Squier P-bass Special. It's pretty much like an Aerodyne, but a lot cheaper (£218 on that GAK link). It has a P body with a Jazz neck - in case you're not keen on wielding a baseball bat The P pup sounds like a P. Dialling in the J pup makes it sound more like a Gibson-ish humbucker. I don't think I've ever soloed the J pup, as it sounds a bit weak on it's own.
<snip> Anyway i'm off to listen to some Metal-Funk, Rave-Groove, Prog-Beat, Beat-Funk, Fuzz-Rock, Thrash-Ska.
You forgot the Folk-Metal!

Ask yourself - have you already got a nylon-strung acoustic? They are lovely to play if/when your child abandons it Unfortunately, my son seems to have taken to it rather well, so I don't get to play on it that often I got him an Ashton 3/4 scale, which was very reasonably priced, sounds fantastic and holds it's tune well now that the strings have bedded in. Similar to this one on Amazon - it was a LOT cheaper from my local music shop though!

Gee I'd hate to be that guy's drummer! Adds a whole new meaning to "dropping a b*ll**k"!

A stiff bourbon and a very long cigarette. (Yes I do like scotch as well, but you can't beat a nice smooth, smoky bourbon après-gig)

I've owned some of my basses for longer than I've been married so it's a matter of precedence - last in, first out Seriously, it will be our 20th wedding anniversary next year and Mrs Norris encouraged me in my latest purchase, so she seems to be a 'keeper' too

Modern Gibson 'birds have the strap button on the neck heel and don't suffer neck dive as badly. They still tilt though if you don't use the arm rest Edit: Tilt as in the top edge of the body tends to fall away from you slightly i.e. along the X axis rather than the Y axis

Signature updated, and the name will never be spoken again. (I still love it though )

Sorry, couldn't help thinking of this... "You're a naughty one, Saucy Jack" Good luck anyway

First Bass: Gibson SG Faded Vs Squier Mustang VM?
