1. I have now and it's a lot better. I've gotta sort the spike rattle next - I think that's most of the noise is coming from (and I'm sure the additional electrical shielding will follow!)
2. Congratulations Pete!
This is great news Pete. Been reading your 'just bought a EUB' thread and i'm tempted to give one a go myself. Never had either a DB or an EUB in my sticky paws before but seriously tempted. Best of luck with the demo
Quick - there's one in the for sale section! Edit: For sale link
3. No mods yet. I'm going to have to sort out the hip brace (for want of a better description) as it does clatter a bit as I move - and the whole bass is microphonic due to the piezo. I think a bit of PTFE tape (plumbing joint tape) wrapped around the ends of the brace should do it in a non-destructive way. (For any other readers unfamiliar with the bass the brace mounting is a bit like a giant brake pipe - the brace goes through the centre of the nut, which screws into the body. There is a rubber seal on the end of the brace that acts like a flange, but this doesn't stop all of the rattles as you move around) I tried it out through a powered monitor last night and it sounded massive. I've previously only used my dinky little practise amp before. I might have to take it along to our next gig on Sunday - if there's room in the pub! I don't think I could play it for much more than 1/2 hour at a time at the moment though.
4.
unfortunately i have to remove my interest
It's not an easy sell to the other half, is it?
5.
We need pictures!
I've just had a look through the reviews and there doesn't seem to be one for the Stagg. I'll do one and post some pictures there (when I have a few minutes and some decent light to take them in). My bass is actually a "Rocket by Stagg". i could do with a couple of lessons - if only on how to hold it right. I've played it a bit (1/2 hour at a time at the moment) and seem to be getting on ok. No pain yet anyway I might even take it along to a gig this weekend!
6.
Ha ha, yes. I just play F instead, it's a lot easier. Edit: Unless I'm feeling ill-tempered, obviously...
(Somebody got it!)
7. Usually starts out as the studio version. 6 months down the line is another matter... The key thing is to all agree on a specific version to learn
8. Our covers trio mainly does pub gigs and a few functions. The PA belongs to the guitarist - a Yamaha 8 channel mixer with bult-in effects and a pair of powered Mackie cabs (SRM450's ?). Simples. Edit: Having read more of the comments, we just use this for vocals & the 'disco' (iPod). We don't put the guitars through it & don't mike the drums either.
9. Any time ELO pops up on shuffle
10. Could you post up some pictures? Preferably leave the bass sweat-stained from when you last played it & didn't wipe it down. For the best effect, lay it down on your unmade bed for the photos. Piles of washing in the background are always a good selling point too.
11. NBD: Bass has arrived at home. I'm stuck at work for the rest of the afternoon - and can hardly spend all evening playing with it as it's St Valentine's day... I'll be re-reading this thread when I come to do any mods though
12. I can vouch for the seller, he's a top bloke. I've backed out of buying several of his basses.
13.
I think this is part of why I have an inverted snobbery when it comes to my gear - my aim on the whole is to use the cheapest stuff that will get the job done. I'd far rather someone see my cheapo "beginner's" bass, expect me to be pretty useless and then be surprised by my prowess than raise expectations with flashy gear only to disappoint them when I start to play. In reality, of course, the vast majority of people won't notice or care in the slightest what I use anyway.
+1 - Squier bass, dinky little peavey combo, monster sound Having said that, there are quite a few 'musos' out there that have ALL the gear and none of the talent. Gearstalking - C'mon, everybody looks don't they?!
14. I directly blame this thread for me just having bought one! For £299.99 from http://www.normans.co.uk how can you not?! Free delivery & 5 year warranty too
15.
Snap! I love my SB1000 but it hardly ever gets played, don't know why to be honest.
I don't play mine because the batteries seem to last all of 5 minutes - got fed up constantly changing them and haven't ever owned another active bass
16. Aria Pro II SB-1000 Last played it around 1992, spent 10 years in the loft (which were not kind), currently being restored. Probably won't gig it, but keeping for sentimental reasons Fender US Standard Jazz Last played it around 2010, currently sitting on top of the bookcases. May find its way to the For Sale section one of these days.
17.
I have never heard of this person, who is he?
Welcome to BassChat!
18. Playing anywhere near Leicester any time soon?

The Cheeze Gigs

I'll try to remember to keep this thread up to date with our public gigs. However we do tend to have large gaps in our diary whenever MTWA are touring - the guitarist's "day job" . Firstly by way of introduction, the band members and other bands they have played for - as we've all been round the block a few times, and you may have seen us before. Lead vocals & Guitar - Danny Willson Previous/current bands: Brooklyn, Kipper, The Billy Walsh Showband, The Chase, Showaddywaddy (not original member), Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash (not original member, current band) Drums & vocals - Gordy Taylor Previous bands: Brooklyn, Kipper, The Ann Duggan Band (and probably a load of other bands - I'll have to ask him ) Bass & vocals - Norris Previous bands: The Billy Walsh Showband, The Chase, GMT I post all of gigs to our Facebook page, which may be a bit more up-to-date than this page http://www.facebook.com/CheezeBand/ ...and then our gigs for February 2013 Sat 2nd - Black Horse, Hinckley Sat 9th - The Willow, Thurmaston Sun 24th - White Hart, Ashby-de-la-Zouch Hope to see you sometime - do come and introduce yourselves
20.
I do look at the gig page (which is always useful as I'm the Mod for it ) but most of the gigs are too far away from my humble abode to get to or are often at weekends when I'm generally out playing as well!
I'll have to start posting ours up
21. Indonesian Squier P-Bass Special, cost me £150 from this very site, plays great & sounds massive - and all completely stock. ... if it can be called cheeky when it cost over £100
22. If in doubt, pull it out - Me ...tuning a trumpet by deliberately going flat and bringing it back up into tune, but could work in so many other contexts
23.
P.S. Inventor of post-womble here. You can do it with anything.
24. I read the wikipedia entry, and now I'm wondering what post-hardcore and math-rock sound like I must get out more...
25. I like to have different sounds depending on the song I'm playing, or the bass I've taken along that night (I play in a covers trio). I don't have "a sound" either. I get a nice sound and then that's "my sound" for the night Edit: I did once have a session setting up the 7-band graphic on my amp, got it sounding nice and jotted down the settings. That's my "sound" (or rather "A NICE SOUND") and has been for several years now. Funnily enough it sounds good in pretty much any room. The "setting up" of the graphic involved getting everything flat, then starting at the deep end trying every slider between min & max and deciding how much I liked that frequency range. It actually ended up as a mid-scoop, but avoiding deliberately setting a "smiley face" pattern i.e. set up by ear, not eye
