Fender Deacon-ification MkII. Late 70's - Mid 80's era.

That looks lovely. Beautiful job -
51 and reasonably fit. Our gigs go in fits and starts a bit as the guitarist is in a "name" band and tours occasionally. That suits me pretty well as I get a few weekends off every once in a while but am then itching to play when we get back together. We do think twice about doing 3 in a weekend these days though - the drummer is 65. I've recently taken up building guitars, which I find very rewarding and can chug along at my own pace. I've nearly finished my first one - 18 months so far That might be an option for a musically related hobby for you

So it's a double sided board then. If you notch it for clearance you will likely have to cut through one or more of those tracks. That means you'll need to solder jumper leads to re-make the connections. How are your soldering skills?!

Lovely! That sycamore is gorgeous

Ampeg BA-108. I bought one for my lad a few months ago. Plenty of poke for home and quieter gig use. No rattles, even on a low B

OK, this is a possibly weird question about gigging...
I'm in the zero % chance of attracting a lady too. However last night or this morning when I got home, I received a friend request on Facebook from a young lady half my age that I recognized from being at our show. Can I get a "woop woop" ! 😁 Blue
Woop woop Blue! All I got last night was an offer from "Garry' to join an originals band that doesn't gig very much, scribbled on a note -

My wife might come to one every couple of months. It's usually arranged amongst the WAGS themselves and only in the nicer venues we play. She knows she's always welcome to come along but doesn't feel like she has to. I was playing for years before I met her and she knows it's a big part of my life. There have been occasions where she would rather I wasn't out but understands that I've made a commitment when I accept a gig. It's never been a problem. Plus my band earnings have at times made up a significant part of our disposable income. She doesn't get jealous, especially now I'm an old git that has zero chance of pulling even if I was that way inclined -
Very sensible. Industrial solvents are not to be taken lightly and should be used with extreme caution and using correct safety equipment. I did also wonder what effects they might have on a nylon shower curtain
I am genuinely gobsmacked that a 'quality' maker would send a response like that. The idea that they are using AliExpress/ eBay type suppliers from China is appalling. The Chinese are very capable of making high quality stuff to a decent spec but it needs to be done by a buyer who stipulates exact quality levels and checks they are adhered to. To reply that 'Chinese stuff is a bit variable' shows it's not happening and is disgraceful. One make that I wouldn't personally go near if that is the way they work. Where else have they saved money on buy in bulk Chinese parts?
Truss rod? Eek!
(and, assuming you've seen my amended thread, do NOT think about spraying it in a tent! )
I'm confused 'cos I'm sure I replied to that thread but darned if I can find it now. Have you been moderated for excessive expletives?

Lovely work. The neck block protector idea is inspired!

Nice fretboard. Nice trousers.

Just make sure there are no tracks on the back of the board - it's probably single sided though. It shouldn't hurt too much to nibble a bit of that wide track away
Yep - even if it isn't complete I'll be bringing it along. Hopefully it will be working even if I haven't completed the finish. Looking forward to the bash - be interested in seeing how you Tele is coming along. Cheers
The back is dyed & has a coat of sanding sealer on it. Finish sanding of the front this evening, then hopefully that should be dyed soon too. I should get it finished, cured & polished in time for the Bash (fingers crossed!)
Could be one bridge too far, of course
Could lead to a weighty bass... (Humber bridge)

Oh no. He's not been caught up in real life has he?!

Question to all the luthiers, builders and bodgers on here
Norris replied to LukeFRC's topic in Build Diaries
You can always make a start on the templates -
By how much is the circuit board in the way? It can only be a few mm. If you're going to cut it, only take as much as you need to. You certainly don't want the tip of the jack plug touching the board though as there's a fair chance you'll short out your signal if it does. Some careful work with a Dremel cutter would be needed to cut perpendicular to the edge, and I'd probably use a tiny drill to make a line of holes to join the two slots, then carefully cut through the remaining metal track with a Stanley knife. The board should snap easily enough if you drill the perforations but you want to avoid lifting the track, so cut through it first
-
Cool. I thought a photo might get some others to make suggestions. The only other suggestion I can add is that it looks like there are no actual components or connections where the board is fouling the jack clearance. It might be possible to very carefully cut the circuit board to give you the clearance, glue on some support across the corner to stop the board flexing too much and then use a length of wire to bridge the connection. It looks like the thick track there is probably the 0v screening.

Lovely work as usual Jabba. Will this one make it to the Mids Bass Bash?
Personally, I think it would be a good idea to have a few more 'budget' basses (Squiers, Yamaha BB's, Ibanez GSR's) at these gatherings for people in the market for an affordable bass to try. There's usually plenty of 'exotica'. Would be nice to see some basses from the other end of the scale.
I brought my Squier last time iirc. I can bring it again if you want. You're welcome to try it out through the house rig. It's my main gigging bass.
-
Have you already drilled the jack entry hole, or could you move it up closer to the strap button? Failing that you might need to relocate the preamp board and use flying leads (with possibly another/extended cutout) Photos would help
If it's labelled P-Bass Special, then it has a Jazz neck.
Yep. Jazz neck, precision body and PJ pups (although I rarely dial in the J). I never could get on with baseball bat necks.

Very nice work

It does seem like there will be an awful lot of kit there if everyone brings what they have mentioned. I won't be bringing anything except hopefully be thinline Telecaster guitar I've been building as I know it's of particular interest to some of the other builders that are attending. I live in the village though and can quickly pop home to fetch anything else that people may want to try. I'll also try to sort a suitable raffle prize and maybe a cake too
