1. Have you got the correct date set on the flux capacitor? Lovely work btw
2. Two large cheap sports holdalls for the lights and associated cables. A medium general purpose hard case for mic and leads. A soft case for my GT6B. Guitar stand and mic stand lashed together with cheap straps. A soft case for the light stands. Bass and strap in a gig bag. Combo with Roqsolid cover (+ hardboard sheet in the optional front pocket) Yes, it takes a few trips
3. I could happily live with one bass - my Squier. But then after telling my lad to put down my vintage Aria I then got out my fretless Jazz for the first time in ages. And I couldn't possibly get rid of the Ric. And... Darned Basschat GASeous atmosphere!
4. I know that I always have room for improvement. I'd rate myself as "competent to handy" rather than virtuoso. There are a lot better bass players out there, but I do a pretty decent job in our guitar/bass/drums trio. Any comments from the audience are usually met with a standard "thanks mate" and not allowed anywhere near my ego
5. I bought a 5 string Yamaha bass from Tobie. Excellent communications and bass arrived in great condition exactly as described. Thanks for a smooth transaction Cheers, Norris
6. Why not use a proper "LED driver" - less than a tenner each on Amazon? They are transformers specially designed for the job
7. Or maybe this would do the trick: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/286772-truss-rod-tool-for-rickenbacker/
8. I have a cheap magnetic screwdriver set with interchangeable bits. The driver with no bit fitted is slim enough to go on the nut and still give you something to turn it with. It fits my Ric without having to hack lumps out of the bass. Of course ymmv
9. Squeeze were great. His voice is still excellent
10. +1 for fine wire wool. Mask off your pickups first though - you don't want stray wire wool near them
11. Stick the bubbles with a needle and you should be able to ease them down. You only need the smallest hole to let the air out and it will be unnoticeable when the bubble has gone Edit: Nice job btw!
12. Some pickups are louder than others. However you might want to try adjusting the pickup height to raise them closer to the strings Edit: If both pickups have become quieter over time then it's more likely to be the tone and volume pots or output jack socket. Give your knobs a good workout (oo-er!) and try plugging your lead in and out a few times in case you have any mucky contacts. If so, a squirt of switch cleaner such as Servisol can help
13.
...and we're back :-)
Confirmed! Yay! Well done to the Mods
14. The air pressure may have also had an effect - probably more on your eardrums than soundwave transmission through the air though
15. I've just had a look at the Cisco web site. There is a page that allows you to look up websites and email addresses. BC is still rated as "Poor". Investigating a bit further I found a section that said you need to raise a support ticket with Cisco if you want them to re-evaluate if you are confident that the site does not contain any malicious content. In other words it will remain blocked until someone starts a dialogue with Cisco to get it resolved
16. Thanks for the suggestions folks. The Ampeg BA-108 gets some cracking reviews and has aux input & headphone socket too. It's also well within budget at £90 from GAK. Top of the list atm Edit to say it also has a level control for the aux input AND an effects send/return loop
17. As Grangur says if your truss rod adjuster is seized, loosen it rather than tighten it as you're less likely to break it. I'd also recommend a proper penetrating oil such as Plusgas
18. But then a question also bumps your thread I'm not sure it would bother me either way
19. I guessed that was why you were asking But then it doesn't take a second to write it in the first post - and that would save any questions
20. As the title says, I'm looking for a cheap (< £100) practice amp, compact in size, preferably with headphone socket, that won't start farting as soon as it sees a bass signal. I'm buying my lad his first bass for his birthday and want something he can play through and make a half reasonable sound. He will probably be taking it into university halls so needs to be small and not too loud All suggestions are welcome, although in current BC style I might just start an argument for fun (joke!)
21. Like others have said, switching to full version while on a mobile phone is only done out of necessity. It's not the best "user experience"
22. Well that's another thing - weeding out the sh*tty gigs by making phone calls and asking questions i.e. making sure they are expecting you a few days before the gig, checking "suppied" equipment has been provided and is suitable, etc.
23. If you're booked, you play imho. It's all about professionalism and the good name of your band. Sometimes you just have to make the best of a situation - especially if you're being paid for it. At the very least you can treat it as a free rehearsal, and it will be something to tell your grandchildren. Often the "challenging" gigs are the ones that you remember when you've racked up several hundreds over the years
24. As a youth my main instrument was the trombone. Since taking up bass at around 16 that has been my main thing. I dabble with other instruments but not really up to performance standard. I'm a bass player
